Embark on a tense co-op or solo adventure through What Lurks Inside, a dark scientific facility teeming with danger. Will you trust your teammates or strike first as the monster?
About this game
What Lurks Inside is a tense, semi-cooperative role-playing survival game about exploring, destroying, and escaping a mysterious scientific facility… or about disguising yourself to sabotage and undermine the foolish humans who have wandered into your lair. Where to go? What to gather? Who to trust? Use your cunning and judgement to make sure that you make it out alive…
Features:
Play either multiplayer or singleplayer (Multiplayer Recommended)
Random facility issues make each playthrough varied
Environmental dangers
Melee weapons and teamwork for human players.
Fast-travel and traps for the monster. Set up a plan several rooms in advance, or lay in wait to spring an ambush.
TRY TO PURGE THE LAB - BUT WATCH YOUR BACK…
Four bodies in environmental suits descend into the facility… but only three of them are human. Which of your teammates is the monster? Cooperate with the other humans (hopefully) to complete objectives and purge the lab.
SABOTAGE, TRANSFORM AND KILL!
The humans have no idea what you’ve got planned for them. As the monster, use special Bio-Growths to fast-travel around the facility, setting up traps and plotting vicious ambushes. Pick off your companions one by one, or all at once in a grand master-scheme! Sabotage their equipment all while ripping apart corpses and collecting their bits to use later in feeding the Bio-Growth.

Final Release
Final Version ReleaseReleasing the final version (Features/Gameplay) today. Based on the wishlist numbers and general hype What Lurks Inside did not quite reach the audience I hoped for. As a result, I won't be building on the current systems nor will I be changing the price. The price reflects the amount of content it currently has which while less than I wanted, still fully complete. Given the price is low and it is multiplayer, those who do choose to purchase will have enough content (with friends) to have fun. What Lurks Inside is and has always been multiplayer-focused so you will have the most fun with friends, you can play solo but the experience will not be very replayable. While I will consider this game feature complete, I will still be working on any bugs found and I will polish/ tweak the environment but nothing major. As always I appreciate everyone who supported me during early access, apologize for the smaller scale, and look forward to people enjoying the experience I created. Thanks all.Read full article on Community Announcements (dus.steammanager)AnnouncementsOfficial
Early Access - V3.0
Exciting news: I decided to release V3.0 now and remain in early access for a bit longer. This version is a complete upgrade from the original version in every area. The initial plan was to just keep polishing and do a final release, but I decided to give people a bit more time to check out the game and hopefully attract some more players. If popularity increases, I will expand the game a bit more; otherwise, just polish this version and release. Game Updates Every system has been revamped, along with several new systems added. From the main menu, you can run through 3 small tutorial levels that give you the basic information. They may be expanded in the future, but they should give you an idea of how to play without giving away too much. Game Bugs There may still be some bugs, as large tests have not been conducted yet. This version has had a few optimization passes, so it should run on most computer setups with minor issues. This is running in Unreal Engine 5 and as such, can have some general optimization issues along with minor CPU compatibility issues. If you have any bugs or experience bad performance, please post in the bugs section so I can try to help. (https://steamcommunity.com/app/2753610) The Plan As mentioned above, I decided to keep it in early access for a bit longer to see if it receives some more exposure. If not, I will polish what I have, leave the price low, and release. Note that this current version is complete in terms of gameplay, so if it is fully released, it will be well worth the current prices. However, if more people buy and enjoy it, I will have more funds to continue to expand with new crafting items, features, and even more levels. If you enjoy the game and want to see it expanded, please spread the word, let people know, and leave a review. Progress Update 2
The new player controller is complete, works much better, and offers many more systems and minor features. Along with this significant change, the crafting system has been overhauled and split up per location. Each area will have some version of a crafting machine tailored to the area. The medical area for example will have a dedicated crafting machine for antidotes and other medical products. To address some balance issues with Uninfected vs Infected I have created several new systems that make playing as each fun but not one-sided. The main gameplay loop was updated slightly to, you will no longer need to just escape, instead, you must destroy all infected areas via a new system that allows you to create an airborne antivirus which needs to be created and administered via air system. This will push players to explore and engage with the main AI creature which functions similarly to Nemesis from Resident Evil games. There are a ton more new features and systems, but I will go over those when the next game update is ready. I have not worked out if I will do the update in pieces or just once all systems are locked in. Either way, the price of the game will increase per update to reflect the amount of content currently available. Over the scale is not huge so the price will remain low in general. Thanks again for all the support.Read full article on Community Announcements (dus.steammanager)Patch NotesOfficial
Progress Update 1
While I continue to develop the game, add new systems, and polish existing ones I wanted to keep the status transparent. These smaller progress updates are just that. Game design can be time-consuming, and I don't want it to seem like nothing is being completed. With that said here is a quick update. Progress is moving along well, however I did find a massive bug with the new player controller. Nearly all the in-game systems I created myself, except the player controller. Player controllers are quite complicated to get right, especially first-person multiplayer ones. The issue I was experiencing was considerable network lag, so much so it became unplayable. I spent a good month trying to fix it, and I did manage to locate the issue, however it is deep in the code. I was able to place a bandaid on it, but I was unable to fully fix it. While the fix helps I am not happy with the results. So I decided to take some time to learn all the ins and outs of making a player controller and create my own. I'm happy to say I was able to create my own and it's quite good. It's not complete and will take a bit longer, but it's a must before I can continue with the last few systems. This new player controller will be a game changer and allow for many things I was limited on while using a premade one. Better control and a great foundation to add new features. I'm looking forward to getting it ready and in-game for everyone to play. Thanks again for all the support.Read full article on Community Announcements (dus.steammanager)Patch NotesOfficial
Crafting (Coming in the next update)
The upcoming update will introduce several new systems, remove outdated ones, and enhance others. While we polish and test these changes, I’d like to start sharing details about what’s coming. As the title suggests, the first spotlight is on Crafting. I set out to create a crafting system that seamlessly integrates with the game’s environment and enhances gameplay with unique, lore-friendly elements. This system aligns with the game’s narrative and complements other mechanics. Players will need to craft essential items like power supplies, fuses, medicine, and more. As development progresses, additional blueprints will be introduced, expanding the range of craftable items. How does the system work? Each blueprint requires three distinct resources to craft. These resources can be found scattered throughout the map—on shelves, on the floor, and in other locations. Every resource is physics-based, meaning you’ll need to physically pick them up and carry them to the crafting machine. Once there, you drop the resources into the machine’s intake hopper, where they are added to its inventory. After gathering all the required materials, simply press the crafting button, and the crafted item will be dispensed from the machine’s output hopper. What can you create? Currently, you can craft Power Supplies, Power Fuses, one type of Medicine, and an Incinerator Tank. As the game evolves, additional items will be added, such as cures for new illnesses and components for other systems. What is the end goal of this system? The crafting system is central to mission completion, but it also supports and enhances other gameplay systems. For instance, if your character is knocked out repeatedly, you might develop vision issues that require a special crafted item to cure. This interplay is designed to make the system both functional and immersive. What is the current state of the system? The system is fully functional and highly flexible, allowing new blueprints to be added with ease. Whi...Read full article on Community Announcements (dus.steammanager)
