About the Game
From ruined temples of forgotten gods to grand cities sustained by coin and trade, explore a world shaped by classical antiquity and mythology. Our story takes place in a land scarred by an ancient conflict known as the Rending, a cataclysmic battle between divine gods that shattered civilization into waning tribes scattered across land and sea.
As fragile peace gives way to ambition, the greed of mortals threatens what remains of this broken land. From the west, an empire watches with hungry eyes; a nation led by an aging, childless emperor, his blood-brambled crown heavy with the weight of countless schemes and quiet cruelty. In this world, power is rarely won without cost, and it is most often the weak and innocent who suffer for it.
Play as Wedelia, a young ranger chosen by sacred rite to become the spiritual leader of her tribe. Torn from a once-peaceful life, her journey begins in the safety of her village before outside forces and growing unrest push her into a widening conflict that threatens to engulf her world in steel and mourning. Wedelia must somehow find the strength to liberate her people and overcome the dread whispers that seep deeper into her thoughts with each passing moon.
Along the way, she is joined by a diverse cast of companions, including a stalwart ranger, a whimsical sylph, a nouveau-rich noble, and a cursed warrior. Each brings their own perspective, personality, and affinity for distinct character classes.
In a world watched over by a meddlesome and merciless pantheon, Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death tells a tragic, heart-tugging journey of war, belief, and loss.

🌻 Twelve character classes, each with their own unique playstyle and approach to combat. As a Witch, use your own health to fuel powerful offensive magic and buff allies with incredible boons, but such magic requires a sacrifice from the recipient…
🌻 Time-progress battle system: A system inspired by the RPGs of the late 90s and early 2000s. Actions occur in pseudo-real-time with pauses as character turns begin.
🌻 No random battles: Fight as much or as little as you wish, with difficulty settings tailored to different playstyles.
🌻 A reactive world powered by magic: Use spells discovered across your journey to influence the world around you. Solve puzzles, uncover hidden treasure, and reveal secret areas with optional boss encounters and mysterious lore. From growing vines and lighting tinder, to moving objects and skipping across water, exploration magic rewards curiosity.
🌻 Story-driven, turn-based RPG centered around a young woman determined to protect her people from the crimson machinations of a dread goddess and the iron rule of an invading empire. A tragic tale, yet one with moments of lightheartedness and hope.
🌻 Old-school inspired art: handcrafted 2D landscapes accompanied by 3D graphical effects and an enchanting, at times haunting, soundtrack. Immerse yourself in a world of deep magical forests, ancient vine-covered ruins, and sleepy villages housing dark secrets within their boughs.
🌻 Accessibility-minded design: Keyboard and controller support/customization, reviewable catalog of tutorials diving into core game mechanics, adjustable UI color schemes, auto-battle options for grinding, and much more. The world of Urdin is yours to discover.
Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death is our first title at the Incandescent Bard, a small indie studio dreaming big. We would be honored if you would join us on this journey across the Broken Isles.
May the laughter and love of boon companions accompany your travels, as each step together is surer than those which are taken alone.

Demo Patch 1.9 & Upcoming Festivals
Ladies and gentlemen, good evening! Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death has come a long way since we last updated the demo almost a year ago. The version of the game currently on Steam is quite outdated in terms of gameplay, accessibility, art, you name it. So we decided to take some time to create a new build that we can share with all of you :). This update to the demo is absolutely massive in terms of patch notes, though the vast majority of it is quality-of-life features and gameplay changes; if you've played the demo before, there isn't much in terms of new content, but there is a little! For those who have yet to try Sunflowers, now is the best time to do so! While we are always working on improving the game, and will continue to do so all the way up to (and for a little while after) release, this version of the demo matches the current dev build and represents the game at about ~90% complete. Whether you are a new or returning player, we sincerely hope you enjoy this new version of the demo, and are honored and humbled for your interest in Sunflowers. Thank you. :) And don't forget to leave us a Wishlist on Steam! Every Wishlist helps spread the word across the Steam platform, helping us to share our world with more and more people. ------------------------------------- Festival Announcements In other news, the next few months are absolutely packed with gaming festivals and events. Sunflowers is confirmed to be participating in several of them already, and we've applied to more besides. Look for us at the following events coming up this autumn, and be sure to take a look at other wonderful indie RPGs being showcased as well! 📜Developer Diary #12 - Art is a Journey📜
Ladies, gentlemen, great and terrible wyrms that make their home amongst the volcanic ashes of Ehngyldr, welcome! Tonight we're very excited to announce that we have new artwork rolling out on Steam, social media, etc.! Our new banner art was drawn by Red Potion Studios, an indie art group based in Bogotá, Colombia. They've done absolutely incredible work and we collaborated with them for over a month to get the art just right; to really nail the aesthetic of Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death. And we couldn't be happier with how things turned out! As a small team of two ourselves, who know well the arduous path that must be traveled in order to reach our audience and spread the word of what we're building, it was a priority for us to find another small team to work with in creating this art. That, along with their professionalism and the incredible portfolio of work they shared showing the work they've done with other indie developers, is what made us decide to collaborate with Red Potion Studios on this endeavor. Read on to learn about everything that went into creating our new banners and icons for Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death, and we hope you will enjoy following along with the process. :) And don't forget to Wishlist Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death on Steam! Every Wishlist helps spread the word about the game across the platform, enabling our tale to reach more and more fellow adventurers. :) --------------------------------------------------- The Journey We started working with Red Potion Studios in mid-July, sharing character and environment artwork with them along with our ideas for what themes and notes to hit with the finished work. We wanted to build something that would really embody our vision for the world we were creating: a land of scattered ruins and mysterious forests, lorded over by a pantheon of apathetic and aloof gods. It was also important to us to focus on the characters our story follows, as Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death is...Read full article on Community Announcements (theincandescentbard)AnnouncementsOfficial
📜Developer Diary #11 - Accessibility and UI📜
Ladies, gentlemen, fae from the meadowed wilds of Sylphtir, welcome! Tonight we'd like to share what we've been working on in improving accessibility and just making the gameplay of Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death easier (from a controls/UI perspective) and more intuitive for all! We're also very excited to share that Sunflowers is about 85% complete and is getting closer and closer to release! We sincerely hope all of you are as hype (even if it's just a little hype!) about adventuring through the world of Urdin as we are to deliver our finished tale to you :). As always, thank you so much for following along with our journey in creating Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death. If you have yet to do so, we would be honored if you would leave us a Wishlist on Steam or try out our free demo. And if you like what you see, tell a friend! All that said, let's get right into the improvements to the game coming with the full release of Sunflowers and the Goddess of Death in the not-too-distant future! ----------------------------------------- Controls and UI One of the key pain points for some of our players has been the lack of WADS support by default. While we've had WADS selectable as a control scheme from the Options menu in the demo for awhile, we knew we could do better. So we sat down and cooked a bit with the controls, and have now implemented WADS from the moment you launch the game: no rebinding necessary! Further, all controls are fully customizable in Sunflowers, so you can set up any control scheme you desire. This also applies just the same to controllers, so you can play how you want to play! Want L2 as Confirm and R2 as Cancel? You can do that! We've also coded in Switch Joy-Con support! Sunflowers will fully support Keyboard, Xbox, PS4, PS5, and Joy-Con controllers at release: from playing the game, to in-game help menus, and even tutorial popups! All of this will be included in the full release of Sunflowers right from day one. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/4484173...Read full article on Community Announcements (theincandescentbard)AnnouncementsOfficial
