Explore a dystopian desert gas station where your choices shape relationships and daily life. Navigate through quirky interactions and subtle romance in Gas Station Story, an indie adventure by enzi.

About this game

You are the Clerk, the team leader at 8-Fifteen location #97433213. Your job is to run a small refueling station just outside of Divinity City, a megacity with all sorts of strange inhabitants. One night, when everything seems to be going as it should, a mysterious update appears on your computer - causing trouble for you and your coworker, Sam (as if your work days weren't hard enough).

As the week goes on and the Update Virus “upgrades” your system, you’ll make decisions that steer the course of the story and affect both Sam and yourself. If you’re lucky, you’ll both make it out with your lives… and maybe a deeper relationship than you were expecting. Gain insight into your customers' personal lives (and how the Update Virus has affected them) through conversations, and treat them with kindness or rudeness to influence how they feel about you. If you're not careful, some people might not come back - including Sam!

Gas Station Story features a variety of different gameplay mechanics - the Overworld, the Point-of-Sale, the Dialogue, and the Mini-Games.

OVERWORLD

The Overworld is the main area of the world that you will be able to explore. There are shelves and coolers with unique descriptions for each day of the story, small tasks to accomplish at the start and end of each shift, interactions with Sam, and the occasional secret encounter.

POINT-OF-SALE

The Point-of-Sale system is how you ring up your customers. There are item buttons that correlate to the prices of the items your customers will be purchasing, as well as a pump selector. There are also a handful of advanced functions that will make the checkout experience go faster, but not without some consequence! Using the advanced functions will lower your Employee Productivity Score, which means the Boss is more likely to come by and criticize your work.

DIALOGUE

These are the Character Portraits, created with a Game Boy Camera! You will often be given the chance to ask your customers questions about their lives and experiences - or to answer their questions with your outlook. Be warned: some customers might not return if you're rude to them!

MINI-GAMES

There are several unique In-Game Mini-Games that you will need to complete in order to finish your shift - from a speedy round of Stocking, to miniature Turn-Based Combat encounters, and even Adventure-style puzzles. As the story progresses, so does the complexity of each mini-game - and some of them have secret sidequests that can affect the real world!

- Mature narrative and themes for older players

- 45 different characters to meet

- A multitude of endings (30)

- Over 180 unique portraits made using a Game Boy Camera

- Secrets galore!

- A dynamic narrative system that adapts to your decisions

- A variety of in-game mini-games

- 4-6 hour playtime

log 16 - Anniversary Update and Miscellaneous News

Hi there! It’s been a year since Gas Station Story released, and with that comes the final major update. To start, Gas Station Story is now a much better Steam Deck / PC handheld experience! I've tinkered a lot with the backend to make using a controller a more enjoyable way to play, specifically when it comes to navigating the main menu and settings menu. I also fixed some issues with launching the Demo on Linux (and got Pierrot à la Mode, GSS's free spiritual prequel, running on Linux as well with these same updates). I don't think I'll ever be able to get truly "Steam Deck Verified" due to the complexities of updating the controller glyphs within the Game Boy Color ROM, but if this is as close as I can get then I'm content with that for this project. Additionally, there are a few more bug fixes (mostly for those damn boss fights on the last day) and text fixes. I've also released a new trailer for this update that also shows off all the beautiful festival and award laurels I've collected over the past few years! I also wanted to mention that I've made the Art of Gas Station Story available for purchase on Steam and itch! I originally only had this available on the Patreon page I set up a few months ago, but I've had a really difficult time keeping up with updating that page due to various life events and trying to figure out which of my projects to move forward with. Someday soon I'll definitely come back to it and start offering behind-the-scenes content on my development process, but I don't currently have the bandwidth for that (when I do, I'll make sure to announce it here). Special thanks to my supporters on Kickstarter that helped this Art Book become a reality! One other small bit of semi-sad news is that I'm sunsetting the official website as development is now complete. Money is pretty tight over here so every cent I can save is huge, and the website isn't funneling much traffic anymore, so it's getting the axe. Soon, though, I'll be putting up a new web...

    log 15 - V 2.0.4 Patch Notes

Hi! Version 2.0.4 is now live! Beware the update if you haven’t finished your save file, as it will be reset. This one is pretty minor, all things considered, with a couple of texts fixed, alongside the removal of a character from Standard Mode (the racist alien is a DX Mode encounter that I accidentally implemented across all modes. I was very sleepy when I put that one into the game hehe). Full patch notes are at the bottom, as always. This update also brings a small change to the post-credit variable readout. You'll now be able to see the total possible Sam relationship value, as well as the total possible Employee Productivity Score. For those of you hunting every ending, it'll now be a little easier to figure out exactly how high your Sam score should be. That's it for this log! See you next time :)Love,Enzi V 2.0.4 Patch Notes: Changes:- Total possible Sam and Employee Productivity Rating scores now shown in post-credit statisticsFixes:- Racist Alien no longer shows up outside of Deluxe Mode- Demo Mode actually functions now- The sprite for Boss's Cousin no longer flashes different colors while walking- Bonus Coin no longer respawns after buying the Stick / Sword in Small Adventure- Small Adventure boxes no longer able to be pushed out-of-bounds- Key to unlock Magick Mart no longer stays with Clerk if you give it to the Jump Feather NPC- Performance improvements to Small Adventure- Minor Text Fixes (tm)
