Today, we'd like to share a quick update on the development progress of The Bustling World, plus share a few behind-the-scenes insights from our producer. 🌿Latest Progress Development is moving steadily forward, with art, programming, level design, and other teams all pushing forward together. With more team members onboard, we're able to build a richer, more vibrant world. We hold more than three hours of design meetings every day (yes, seriously) to keep breathing life into the world! Here's a quick look at what we’ve been working on recently: 1. UI Redesign and Optimization After releasing our last trailer, we received feedback from players about the clarity of the UI. We're now redesigning and optimizing the in-game UI to make it cleaner, more intuitive, and smoother to use. 2. AI System Overhaul — More Lifelike NPCs We've made a major update to the AI system. NPC movements are now more natural and fluid. 3. Expanding and Enriching City Life - Travel by sedan chair or carriage: Our artists have created a variety of stylish sedan chairs and carriages. Take a sneak peek at one of them below! - New city activities: You can now take on part-time jobs, host banquets, set up a street stall, and more! - More areas to explore: Special districts like the famous 烟花柳巷 (similar to a red-light district) are opening up, full of surprises waiting to be discovered. 4. Continuous Improvements We’re also fine-tuning a ton of smaller features — improving driving and combat feel, refining swimming animations, upgrading ground textures, refreshing vegetation assets — all the little things that add up to a richer experience. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44811022/5eebca518ffbcfe493ed6628091a72fc0d6bd5ef.jpg Ancient painting references for the carriages {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44811022/b1c70b17bcfebec02cf910ce911fbb7c7687491f.png One of the carriages 🪵Dev Talk Highlights Last week, our art director Chengzi (Oran...Read full article on Community Announcements (crispyii)Patch NotesOfficial

The Bustling World | Dev Interview
Hi there! It's been quite some time since our last update! Recently, we had the pleasure of being interviewed by V - The Magazine. We are delighted to have this opportunity to share more about the gameplay and design approach behind The Bustling World. We hope this article will give you deeper insights into our game. 1- The Bustling World has an incredible variety of activities offered to the player, with several layers within, from the fate of the single man to the construction of a city. How have you managed to make all these spirits coexist? Our game solely focuses on single man’s journey as an open-world sandbox RPG. When you progress to becoming the lord of the city, the city-builder and sieges begin. Differs from other city building games, the management part won’t be in a God view. It still relies on one player’s perspective. 2- Was it challenging to manage the complexity of a gameplay like the one you designed for The Bustling World with such a small team? It is rather challenging. Compared with the innovation of aesthetics or the construction of programming structure, the design aspect is the biggest and most critical difficulty. We have gone through at least ten versions of gameplay design to avoid feeling lost given total freedom in a sandbox world, to motivate players to discover various mechanisms, and to couple the levels of mechanisms to provide a good depth of experience. We get asked a lot what game(s) The Bustling World resembles the most. To give everyone the short answer, it’s Stardew Valley plus The Sims, plus Mount and Blade, plus Civilization. But instead of a blatant mash up of genres, we hope to create a whole new open-world experience where every citizen can interact to each other, and every house can be entered. NPCs will react to the player’s every behavior. For example, if the player sneaks into a residence at night to steal, he will hear it on the street the next day, and a wanted statement will be posted at the government office to ale...Read full article on Community Announcements (万万-v-)Press Coverage
Civilization meets Stardew Valley in new Steam game with a dark twist
As a history graduate, if there's one thing I love to see in videogames, it's an authentic historical setting. Yet, the titanic Civilization has never really inspired me because I'm not the biggest fan of 4X games. So, imagine my face when The Bustling World, a beautiful-looking new Steam game that combines ancient Chinese history with Stardew-style farming and Cities Skylines-esque management, crossed my desk. Safe to say I was intrigued. Read the rest of the story...Read full article on PCGamesN
