Navigate Gloomsday's treacherous levels as Gary, a thief now wielding magic. Move constantly to avoid vanishing, drawing mana from your surroundings to cast spells and overcome obstacles in this intense action-platformer from Team Nabla.
About this game
Few are still alive who remember the glory days of Colwell Academy, the once-renowned magic school which has sat dormant for over half a century. Whether from a tragic magical accident or some supernatural event, no student or professor has emerged from the academy in all that time. Some say that the cursed souls of grad students will wander the halls for all eternity.
Unconvinced by the un-credible legends, Mora sees Colwell Academy the way any accomplished thief would: the ultimate payday—a treasure trove of magical artifacts—and a victimless crime to boot. Gary on the other hand… Gary just wants to convince Mora—and himself—that he isn’t a coward.
Once inside, they do indeed find long-forgotten magical artifacts—namely, a sassy, sentient, wizard’s hat. And less pleasantly: undead professors, crazed TAs, and invisible laboratory experiments with unusually sharp claws.
If Gary and Mora are going to break Colwell Academy’s curse and escape its clutches, Gary is going to need to embrace his unexpected magical potential and unravel the catastrophic academic rivalry that fractured the school all those years ago.
Gloomsday is a dark roguelite action-platformer where the mana is literally in the air. Survive the ever-shifting halls of Colwell Academy by spending its precious mana wisely. Your enemies will.
THE WORLD IS YOUR MANA BAR
There are no mana bars here. Charge your spells from the mana hanging in the air. Casting drains the region around you; stay still and the world greys out, your spells die, and then you die. But it recovers, slowly. Enemies cast from the same field, so every fight is also a fight over ground: bleed a caster's corner dry, or watch him do it to you.
BUILD YOUR WIZARD
Fourteen spells and counting: beams you charge, heals you channel, fire you wear, summons that fight beside you. Layer on the glyphs, enchantments, and pacts you find along the way. Back in the Grand Hall, the movement upgrades you buy persist, turning Gary's meager thief skills into real mobility one death at a time. Thousands of combinations, and every build comes out different: glass cannon, tanky summoner, invisible assassin.
WEAVE AGILITY AND SPELLS
Standing still is how casters die. Movement feeds everything here: repositioning keeps your mana flowing, a double jump refunds spell charge, and tight platforming is how you line up the perfect cast. Find your own rhythm — move, cast, move — and turn the room's hazards against your enemies.
COLORFUL CAST
Mora has a plan. "Hat", the hat that talks, has... suggestions. And of the horrors in the academy's depths, some are beginning to remember Gary's name. The bosses remember you between attempts, win or lose. Friends and enemies alike will have things to say.
EARLY ACCESS WITH US
Gloomsday relaunched into Early Access in July 2026 with the first region and its boss: 14 spells, four enemy types plus a miniboss, the Grand Hall hub, a practice arena, and dialogue that progresses with your wins and losses. That's about 2–3 hours today, and it grows every update. Updates arrive every two to four weeks. The free demo is the practice arena: try every spell against the basic enemies. We'd love for you to get involved in active development! Join the Discord and give your input. We read everything!
In Colwell Academy, death is only the beginning.

Gloomsday Relaunch v0.2.0 — Controller Support
Hey y'all!Just in case you're new here or need a refresher, here's what's been going on in Gloomsday lately. We relaunched last month after a long hiatus with a clear game identity and a strong plan for reaching the finish line. Gloomsday is now a dark roguelite action-platformer. The relaunch build is the baseline: one map and boss, 14 spells, each with an active cast half and a passive enchantment half. There are multiple upgrade options, both in-run and between runs. Runs take about 20 minutes, and depending on your familiarity with roguelites, there's about 2–3 hours of gameplay in there today. Here's what's new with v0.2.0. Full patch notes here.Controller supportThis is main new feature. We got some really good feedback at a convention last month, the primary wish being controller support. Gloomsday plays properly on any gamepad now (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch Pro and other generic pads). Rumble and rebinding should be working as well. We've come up with two controller layout schemes: Bumper Casting and Button Casting. Finally, we are fully integrated with Steam Input on all gamepad types mentioned above if that's your preference.Tutorial, Enchantments, and MoreThere's a brief tutorial sequence the first time you load into the main dungeon, which teaches you the movement basics and how the mana system works. Hat and Gary also have occasional brief dialogues giving you tips. We reworked spell enchantments to have a more unique identity separate from their spell half. Every spell's passive half is a distinct named effect, for example Caustic Coating, Mana Leech, Coyote Spirit, and so on.MoraGo say hi in the tutorial or grand hall. :)Early AccessFor those new, Gloomsday is $8 during Early Access. The demo is forever free, and the full release will come with an increase in price. Early Access may also increase in price as content increases. Buying early means buying a smaller game for a smaller price with free upgrades. We're still aiming at four regions with at lea...Read full article on Community Announcements (Team Nabla)Patch NotesOfficial

Gloomsday v0.1.1 — Bug Fixes and Quality of Life
Gloomsday 0.1.1 Thanks to everyone reporting bugs and sending suggestions. Keep them coming! New Spell slots now show their keybind, in the HUD and the loadout screen, so you can see which key you're assigning to. They follow your rebinds, and swap to controller glyphs when connected. Ultrawide support, technically. I tried but I'm gonna need some help to test this one. Interact prompt on your first few interactables, so it's clear you need to press a key at the portal rather than walking into it. Setting to show the framerate counter, off by default. Setting to hide the run timer Fixes Audio is back. Oops... Boss fight wouldn't start. Also oops... Borderless mode gave you a tiny, unmovable window. It now properly fills the screen, and Windowed is resizable. You could still click around the spell screen while paused, stacking two menus on top of each other. Shop UI was overlapping itself when buying spells. Teleport could drop you inside a wall, leaving you stuck and unable to move or cast. It now checks that you actually fit. Text was spilling outside its panel The main menu still had the old hat. Declining a scroll no longer destroys it Signs are readable now The Keepers will taunt you when they kill you. :)Read full article on Community Announcements (Team Nabla)AnnouncementsOfficial
Gloomsday — The Relaunch
Gloomsday — The RelaunchIf Gloomsday has been sitting on your wishlist, you may have noticed this page went quiet for a long time. Honestly more likely, you forgot about us entirely. The short version: life got in the way. However, for the past year now development has beeen back in full force, and you can expect us to be around for the long haul.Gloomsday now has a clear identity. It's a dark roguelite action-platformer. Thief-turned-mage Gary entered Colwell Academy looking for loot. Now he must fight to escape. Runs take about 20 minutes, and we have about 2-3 hours worth of gameplay in the build today, unlocking new story with each confrontation with the boss. For more details, read the Relaunch Patch Notes.Early AccessGloomsday is $8 during Early Access. The demo is forever free, and the full release will come with an increase in price. Early Access may also increase in price as content increases. Buying early means buying a smaller game for a smaller price with free upgrades. For full release we plan four regions with at least two bosses each plus a final boss, the story's conclusion, and a larger pool of spells, glyphs, and pacts. Early Access launches with the first region and its boss. Exact scope may shift with resources and community feedback. We're a four-person team targeting roughly a year. You can expect updates from us every 2–4 weeks, with the patch notes posted right here.
