About this game

Canyons is a co-op PvE adventure set in a procedurally generated world full of Awakened creatures, mad fanatics, and other pleasant surprises. Play solo or form a squad of up to four crusaders. Arm yourself with sacred relics, forge Blood Pacts with otherworldly forces, stock up on supplies, and set out across the wastes aboard colossal Crawlers.

THE ORDER OF THE DOUBLE CROSS

A world once full of water, life, and growing technology has fallen to the Awakened — the fusion of the living and the lifeless. No one knows where they came from, but their power keeps growing. From the ruins of the old world rose a new force: the Order of the Double Cross. Armed with unshakable faith and relics of the past, its Crusaders learned to seal Sacred Blood Pacts with powerful Awakened beings and wield their strange might. Now the fate of what remains depends on the warriors of the Order… and their allies.

THE CANYONS

Welcome to a land of endless storms, searing sun, twisted beasts, and heretics gone mad. You’ll fit right in—especially if you’re tasty. Gather your comrades, load up your Crawler, and head out to conquer, rescue, build, or burn your way through these damned canyons. Will you risk everything for faith—or for glory and loot? Or will you turn back when things start to break? The choice is yours. There are no right paths here, only hard ones. Explore a vast procedural world filled with hand-crafted details and unique events that make every expedition feel alive.

THE HAVEN OF THE COVENANT

No matter how brave a crusader you are, one day you’ll need to come home. Gifted to you by the Cardinal himself, the Haven of the Covenant will serve as refuge for you and your loyal followers. Equip it with workshops, quarters, and defenses to draw in new settlers eager to join the Order. Build a shipyard for new Crawlers, garages for repairs and upgrades, an armory, or even a mess hall serving stew made from the Awakened. Establish facilities for traders, medics, and craftsmen—and defend your Haven well. There’s always someone eager to take what’s yours.

THE CREW

In the harsh world of the Canyons, faith and a rifle alone won’t save you. Even the mightiest warrior of the Double Cross knows that true strength lies in brothers-in-arms. Join forces with other crusaders, forge pacts with Awakened entities, and build alliances with factions across the wastes to grow stronger together. Advance your personal skills and master dozens of professions—each improving your character in unique ways and unlocking new paths to survival.

When you’re mowing down hordes of enemies, don’t forget your morals. The Canyons are a cruel place, and hard choices await. What will you do with a dying survivor begging for water? Offer mercy, bring him to your Haven, rob him, leave him for the Awakened—or eat him yourself? Decide as you will… but every act has consequences.

    Canyons Horde

Greetings, Captains! While the team is busy chewing through development, some of us, meaning the idiot writing this, have been killing time out of pure boredom. Work? Come on. Still, sometimes you have to peel your sweaty face off the couch and write some nonsense, like the little bit below. All hands on deck, or whatever. What did you just watch? We’d love to answer that, if we’d actually watched it ourselves. Alright, alright, jokes aside. As you may have noticed, Canyons puts a fair bit of focus on big enemy rushes. It’s meant to be one of the main enemy systems in the game. Well, at least that’s the plan and that’s where we’re heading. We can’t promise we won’t suddenly decide the whole game should be about oil wrestling giant kaiju instead. Anyway, the crowds. Or, as the locals call them, the Horde. What are they, and what do you serve them with?Bath salts, judging by the screenshot! Ha! Ba-dum-tss! Alright, fine, complicated joke. Florida will get it... Back to the Horde. We already handed the keyboard to a programmer in one of the previous posts, and he typed up some nonsense about particles. Now it’s the game designer’s turn:“Hordes in the Canyons are everyday trouble, not some rare event. The world is slowly waking up, and there are fewer and fewer places where you won’t find a crowd of mad Awakened waiting for you. Instinct pulls them together, closer to their own kind, and that turns into a problem.Bigger and stronger Awakened are less affected by those instincts. Their minds are more developed, and the stronger an Awakened is, often the larger too, the more likely it is to wander around alone, scaring off its smaller kin. The Horde, on the other hand, is aggressive and dumb as a brick, which makes it a pretty awful neighbor.Horde density adjusts dynamically based on how many players are in the team. That comes down to the game design and balance we’re trying to build. When you’re fighting a mass enemy, clean headshots don’t change much. There are simply to...

    Canyons. 15 Minutes of Gameplay.

Greetings, everyone! Two tiny updates in a row — highly uncharacteristic for our graphomaniac studio of graphomaniacs. But here we are. Today is a pretty important day for Canyons, because we can finally share the first gameplay footage of the game. 15 minutes of pure gameplay, recorded in a single take, with no cuts and no Photoshop magic. Tadaaa:Now, a few words about the video. This is the very first playable iteration of the project. It’s hard to even call it a pre-alpha or anything like that — this is literal prototype testing, and only of one of the core gameplay loops. (The second major pillar of the game is settlement progression, which is not shown in the video at all.) There’s still a lot we want to improve. Tons of work ahead on the combat system (enemy AI and combat mechanics themselves), effects, UI, crawler mechanics, interactions with NPCs and party members — basically, everything under the sun. That said, even now you can already draw some conclusions and get a rough idea of what the project actually is. (Yes — this is not a pony-themed Tetris clone, and not asphalt ski racing.)We’re really looking forward to your comments — any thoughts, ideas, wild theories, wishes, criticism of what you’ve seen, or just general feedback. There are a lot of you, and you’re smart. Seeing the project from many different angles will help us shamelessly steal your ideas up to our very nostrils, so the final game ends up truly worthy. That’s how things are.And don’t forget to add Canyons to your wishlist every minute! If everyone added Canyons to their wishlist, we would be sooooooo happy. And of course, feel free to send us emails and join us on social media:  info@breathedge.com

    Canyons. Gameplay teaser

Greetings, friends! We’ve finally locked in the release date for the video featuring 15 minutes of alpha–pre–early–something gameplay. So when does it happen? Tomorrow. Wednesday, 8:00 AM PT / 17:00 CET, exclusively on IGN’s YouTube channel. We’ll share the link as soon as it goes live. And just so this update isn’t completely empty, we were going to write a couple of pages about the historical feasibility of firearms in religious wars of the past, cleverly adapted to the gameplay mechanics of Canyons, taking into account various nuances and… Okay, okay. Nothing like that. Just a small teaser to warm things up:That’s how things are.Don’t forget to follow us on our various social networks listed on the game’s main page, and drop by our Discord if you want some good old-fashioned human interaction: https://discord.gg/uezQcU7Twitter (X): https://x.com/Red_RuinsInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/redruinssoftworks/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@redruins_softworksYouTube: We also have email. Yes, really: info@breathedge.comAnd of course, don’t forget to add Canyons to your wishlist! We already did — well, not Canyons itself — we can’t wishlist our own game, but we did add something!

Canyons. Reimagining the Meaning of Meanings.

Greetings to all fans of sand, shooting, and various toothy monstrosities! Today’s big (huge — or even gigantic, like our writer’s ego) update is dedicated, as you might’ve guessed from the title, to the grand reimagining of Canyons. Yes, that’s right — the project has changed a lot since the first trailer, and we feel morally obligated to tell you why, in which direction, and what on Earth (or rather, in the canyons) is actually going on.Oh, and very soon we’ll be releasing a 15-minute gameplay video, recorded straight from the test build — no cuts, no editing! But before that, we’d like to share a new short trailer, from which you can already draw your first conclusions:Pew-pew, tra-ta-ta-ta! Some voice shouting, everything flashing, people running around. Looks cool, looks clear enough. See you next time, folks! Add Canyons to your wishlist!A-aand… fine, fine. Details then. Where do we even start… probably from the beginning. So what exactly is Canyons? What kind of game is it, and what do you actually do there? Surprisingly, that’s the part that’s changed the least — at least in the grand scheme of things. Canyons can safely be called a third-person co-op action game with survival elements. The core gameplay focuses on exploring a procedurally generated world, completing missions, collecting loot, and returning to your settlement to upgrade, rebuild, and prepare for the next adventure. Each gameplay loop can last anywhere from five minutes to infinity — depending on your motivation, skill, and luck. The deeper you venture into the canyons, the tougher it gets to survive: enemies grow stronger, but their loot becomes all the more precious. So wait — if nothing’s changed, then what has changed? Everything! How’s that even possible? Like this! The original concept — riding crawlers through hordes of zombies — looked kind of fine on paper, but also raised a few eyebrows. Early tests confirmed it: yes, it technically worked, but playing a technically fine game with tec...
