Dev Blog 3: Digging The Studio Back Up

Hello everyone! This Dev Blog is a long one, and indeed, a special one. Strap in...In August 2024, Red Thorn Interactive's home country fell into a state of political turmoil that ultimately led to the fall of the government. Unfortunately, we were a shoe-in for a government grant that would have been just enough to keep us going to the release of Museum Keeper. When the government fell, so did our lifeline. Afterwards, with heavy hearts, we decided to put the project and the company on hiatus. BUT, we are back now!The team is more experienced, more motivated, ready to get a demo up and running by the end of the year! Give us a wishlist and join our new discord channel! And stay tuned! Regular dev blogs are back on the menu!

Dev Blog 2: The Game Loop!

Thank you guys for your patience. We've had our ups and downs over the past couple of months, but nothing has stopped us from being hard at work on Museum Keeper! So, today's dev blog is going to give a overview of the game design. The screenshots and the teaser posts on reddit and X have already made clear that the game has two fundamentally different aspects to it: The Museum Gameplay: https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/745334210235203605/1243162391668064388/Screenshot_2024-05-23_170836.png?ex=665078b3&is=664f2733&hm=c4bca292bc00601be70b8683654335e088303525f835dd46ca05e75351b5aec5& The titular museum may get a slight edge over the underground mines in terms of how much time the player spends there. Sort of like 60% to 40%. The reason for this is simply because the museum gameplay acts as the main hub of the game. It is from this part of the game that the player has access to the local town and its townsfolk. We’ll get into details about the townsfolk in the coming weeks and months in separate dev blogs, but for now, we can say that we are doing our best to create compelling, complex characters. These characters will be instrumental in progressing the game’s story and will provide players with additional secrets and character development to uncover - much like Stardew Valley - one of our core inspirations. Aside from telling you guys why this side of the game may be the slight majority of the game, let’s get into what else happens here. Of course, we’ve got most of the staple elements of tycoon games. Staff, food and drinks, souvenir stores, trash cans, bathrooms, custom flooring and wallpaper, guests and their tantrums, and most every other feature that has become mainstays of tycoon games. This is also the place in which the player will decide where in the world they want to go in search for artifacts. As previously mentioned, this’ll be the place to access the various townsfolk and also the place where most of the major story events will happen. So what happ...

    Dev Blog #1: Hello World!

Hello there! Welcome to the very first Development Blog for Museum Keeper - Red Thorn Interactive’s second title! My name is Arindam and I’m the lead designer behind the project. If you’ve played AlexanderBall: A Countryball Tale, you’ll know all about us. We’re a tiny studio from Bangladesh looking to make a big mark on the video game industry. We tend to incorporate a bunch of history into our games and we try our best in the indie and strategy gaming spaces. So that’s Red Thorn. What about Museum Keeper? Museum Keeper is a hybrid museum ‘tycoon game’ crossed with a 2D digging game like Spelunky or Dome Keeper! One moment you’ll be wondering which artifact to place in which corner of your museum, and the next moment, you’ll be fighting slimes (and many other nasty critters) as you uncover ancient artifacts deep underground! We’ve taken a lot of inspiration from a variety of games and we truly believe that these two genres, in this context, can be a really fun and coherent gameplay experience. Although we are not giving away too much in this dev blog, I encourage you guys to take a look at the screenshots and the game descriptions. We’ve got a lot of great plans for this game, including a rich artifact economy, staff management, combat, procedurally-generated mines to explore, and much, much more. We’ll be going over all of the features in development blogs like these over the coming weeks and months. I know with the right amount of elbow grease and a bit of luck, this could be a real contender! For now, hit that follow button, add us to your wishlist, and join our discord! It would mean the world to us and I know we won’t let you guys down. And with that, I bid adieu! For now…
