About this game

Bringing us back to the golden days of zombie games when things were simple to learn yet hard to master; Code-Black includes all the features we all love and cherish about zombies, and FPS games.

ZOMBIE GORE

Zombies are no fun unless you can chop their limbs off, am I right? ~ Dismemberment also has its own hidden secrets and features, all I can say is, head is good!

  • Gore is a work in progress, and as the game moves from Early Access to a full release I plan to make many improvements to this core feature.

HACK N SLASH

Rugir having many different combat skills loves to use melee weapons to hack at enemies out of clear enjoyment.

  • During Early Access there are only a limited number of melee weapons, they are a work in progress, but over time the systems and feel of the melee combat will improve substantially, and more weapons will be added.

BULLET HELL

Flying enemies shoot various types of radiated projectiles. On top of surviving hordes of zombies, you will need to watch out for these little guys, shoot them down, and dodge their projectiles, which not only keep you on your toes at all times, but grant additional xp to buy things around the world.

KILL IN STYLE

Rugir is capable of some interesting movement mechanics for you to get the upper-hand, or the "upper-draft" on the zombies.

Each ability gives you the opportunity to earn additional xp if you get kills during tricks, and grant trickshot stats.

While abilities take stamina, they also allow you to easily get out of tough situations if used correctly. Most tricks also have a bullet time state, smoothly modifying time dilation, and allow for some cool slow-mo highlights.

AKIMBO EVERYTHING

Nearly every gun in the game can be also used in Akimbo, being a core mechanic for the weapon systems, there is only a couple weapons throughout the whole game that cannot be upgraded to Akimbo at the Weapon Armory.

PERKS AND ABILITIES

Rugir is somehow not dead from shooting up a wack-load of unknown substances, in fact, hes seemed to have gained some weird supernatural or superhuman like abilities.

Each perk grants its own unique status, providing additional health, movement and reload speeds, additional weapon slots, and more!

CUSTOMIZE & UPGRADE

Weapons all have the ability to be customized and upgraded at various machines within the world; Including the "Weapon Armory," "Mystery Slots," the "Teslectrifier," and the "Crafting Bench"

All upgrades have an overall effect on the weapon, increasing stats, changing camo's, and sometimes completely changing the bullets to provide a whole new experience to each weapon and each upgrade.

MASTER YOUR ARSENAL

Mastering the weapon upgrades will be a huge helping hand to progressing and staying alive, without upgrading weapons you will have a hard time killing enemies in the higher rounds.

EXPLORE A MASSIVE WORLD

Each Level features a large open world with many unique locations, abandoned structures, underground passages, and dangerous environments to explore. Whether you venture off the beaten path or search every corner, there will always be something new waiting to be found.

DISCOVER EPIC MYSTERIES

All throughout the world, there are many hidden areas and secrets ready to discover, including weapons, enemies, abilities, perks, upgrades, collectables, intel, easter-eggs, and much more!

Each major update will introduce even more to discover and unlock. As the game moves closer to full release, every level will continue to expand with new secrets, hidden content, and rare discoveries that even the most dedicated players may never uncover.

GLOBAL LEADERBOARDS

Code-Black introduces many different stats to compete for on the global Leaderboards, including but not limited to; Kills, Headshots, Critical Kills, Rounds Survived, and my favorite, Teabags.

BACKSTORY

"During an unexpected event humanity was blindsided by mass outbreak. With the majority being taken by the infection, and the military left helpless. The ones living are hiding, or forced to scavenge, survive, and fight in this living graveyard."

~ Rugir J.z [ Jam Zeus ]

Rugir is an avid treasure hunter and explorer, while also being a trained assassin, skilled in the art of combat and firearms.

Imprisoned for his crimes, he wakes up with a loss of memory, not knowing how he got where he is.

As Rugir finds his way through the world, he has no loss of skills, and survival instinct kicks in as the dead start to rise, and the infected are only starting to increase in numbers. Finding Weapons, Perks, Abilities, and various clues along the way, Rugir starts to unfold his past, regain some of his memories, and uncovering the truth about why he ended up where he is, and how to escape.

EARLY ACCESS DEVELOPMENT

This game is solo-developed, and will remain in Early Access until the community and I are completely happy with the state of the game.

I work as often as I can on improving every aspect of the game. Enemies, weapons, movement abilities, perks and power ups, exploration, puzzles and easter eggs, hidden collectables, achievements, customization, environment art, optimization, and everything I possibly can that adheres to the gameplay experience.

My main focus is having a solid core gameplay loop, making sure there are no game-breaking bugs, or major performance issues.

Many features, mechanics, and art will be improved and added in the future.

    Unreal Engine 5.8 Update

All of the past builds of Code-Black have been using Unreal Engine 5.7Over the past couple weeks I have pushed the project to the newer Unreal Engine 5.8 which includes many critical performance improvements for Nanite, Lumen, Mega Lights, and more.I hope this improves the performance for many players who may have experienced any lag, fps issues, or rendering constraints, which typically comes from some of these newer Unreal Engine features.I am trying my best to continue optimizing everything where I can, and over time all of that will improve.Ground ZeroGround Zero is the first level I introduced, and it is the main level for the game, containing a large open world which is not fully complete yet. It can also be unstable in some cases depending on your hardware.Due to this, I have decided to create a couple smaller levels which are currently in development, and are planned to be released in the next month or so. I will keep everyone updated on when these will be introduced.Having some smaller levels will not only give players some more options, but will be much less demanding on the rendering side of things. These levels should have highly improved performance and frame rates since they will not be as large and won't have as many assets to render. While I work on these smaller levels I will also be fixing any major bugs.Thank you to everyone who is enjoying the game so far! I hope you see the potential for the game and that I am trying my best as a solo developer to do everything I can to make the players happy, I understand things are not perfect right now, but everything will improve over time, and I am determined to creating a great single player zombie horde experience.Bug FixesFixed issue with PSO's in large levels with the push to UE5.8 (massive overall FPS improvement)Fixed crash when changing certain graphics settingsI am still working on many of the major bug fixes I have previously mentioned, the push to a newer engine version was a huge task I wanted to ...

    Early Access is here!

Important Notes from the Developer ːsteamhappyːFor those of you who may have been part of any pre-release playtests, or even played the demo, this is whats new, and some important notes about the current state of early access. As some of you know, Code-Black is a solo-developed game. About a month ago, I ran into a tough position where I was tackling some performance issues with the AI in the game, mainly the Zombie Dismemberment and Gore systems, and the Flying AI.Due to this, I have temporarily disabled these two systems. This allowed me to increase the overall horde size, more zombies now spawn, but you can't chop off their limbs right now. Overall this makes no change to the gameplay experience, its just as enjoyable, if not more enjoyable, as I believe more enemies and better performance is a completely acceptable hand-off in return for not having body parts you can chop off. This is something I will re-enable as soon as I can get the performance of these systems up to a standard I am happy with.Flying AI is something else I have temporarily disabled, which do offer a bit of a bullet hell experience to the gameplay, but have caused performance issues in many cases. So for now, you will get a good taste of the core gameplay mechanics, what it's like to just fight zombies, and get a feel for the exploration of the world.Since I am solo dev, some things may seem incomplete right now, but my main focus is having a solid core gameplay loop, making sure there are no game-breaking bugs, or major performance issues, and many things will be improved in the future.Currently, the game runs at +90fps on my two PCs at 2k resolution, one with a 4090 on epic settings, and the other with a 3060 on high settings both run at a steady frame rate of 90fps or better. This sometimes drops a bit lower in the higher rounds when tons of zombies are on screen, but overall I find the gameplay performance is really good it's the current state. My main goal is to have anyone with a GTX 1080 ...

    V0.1.303 Fixes and Updates

After the success of the Steam Next Fest and recieving some feedback from the community, along with testing as much as I possibly could on my own, I have made some great improvements over the past few days. If you recently played the game early last week, I highly recommend you try the demo again with these new updates!I have decided to extend the release of Early Access, and hope to release the full game near the end of June or early July due to many of these changes and fixes I think it's necessary as a solo developer to polish these things as much as I can. Thank you for your understanding!FixesImproved Zombie Navigation and Performance overall, they rarely get stuck now, and do not try and attack you while turned away from you.Zombies can now get on most locations you can, so jumping to a higher area will not save you and they can most likely follow you into higher ground, eliminating area exploits.Zombies should respawn if they get stuck or cannot see you for a duration of time, they will now respawn to a spawn location near you making it much harder to escape.Fixed Flashlight issues that some players may have ran into, causing some weapons to turn the flashlight off or in some cases completely break the flashlight systemFixed issue with Teslectrifier upgrades where weapons could not be used during the duration of the upgrade, it will now select the next available weapon properlyFixed an issue with buying ammo at wall weapon locations where you would sometimes get ammo for the wrong weaponFixed and Improved initial tutorials, you now have the option to "Don't Show Again" if you decide you want to keep the tutorials for a while then you can ( I may also add a help section to the pause menu to allow you to view them at any time, although due to the hidden items and exploration parts of the game I may limit certain help sections after you reach a certain point to reduce exploits and keep the sense of exploration )Fixed the Mystery Slots Interface with controllers ...
