Experience the thrill of stacking and shifting colors to clear lines in TETRACHROMA, an Action game by sparsevector where every move counts.

About this game

TETRACHROMA adds a new dimension to the block stacking action of classic tetromino stacking games: the colors of the blocks matter! Pieces appear in two or more colors, and to clear a line, every block in the line must match.

Transform the board with a new color changing mechanic inspired by the classic board game Reversi. Placing a piece adjacent to a line changes the color of the line to match. Plan ahead to maximize your score and clear 15+ lines with a single piece.

    Tetrachroma 1.3.2 Maintenance update

Today's update is a very small maintenance update to fix an issue with running the game under Linux using Proton. When running under Proton, minimizing or alt tabbing out of the window could cause increased memory or GPU usage as the game continued to render. Now the game stops rendering and throttles its update rate when the window is minimized or hidden which should resolve this issue. This issue was only observed under Linux, but the change should also reduce power usage when the game is minimized under Windows. Changes Fixed an issue where minimizing the window or alt tabbing out of full screen could cause performance problems when running under Proton / Linux

Tetrachroma 1.3.0 Update - Cheat Codes

Today's update adds a new Cheat Code screen! On the Difficulty Selection Screen, press Down four times while on the bottom row to reveal the Cheat Code menu. This hidden screen lets you enable or disable gameplay modifiers that can dramatically change how the game plays. Note: playing with a cheat code enabled disables stats and achievements. The in-game timer will also display asterisks next to the time to indicate cheats are active. Cheats are temporary and reset when you quit out of a mode. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44983839/dd34ab19838db3c91289213cad56e9f8db84b13e.gif What's next: This update wraps up the main post-launch content I had planned for the game. Huge thanks to everyone who's played and supported it so far--it seriously means a lot! I'll soon be shifting more of my focus to a new project, but I'll still be around to fix any bugs or issues that come up. Bringing the game to consoles is something I'd really love to do, so I'm exploring this possibility as well (fingers crossed!). This game is extremely special to me, but to keep growing creatively and professionally, I need to continue expanding my catalogue. I'd love to return with a big update in the future if the opportunity arises. Stay tuned! Cheat Codes: Starting Stage: Practice the MARATHON modes from any starting stage. Instant Animation: Disable animation delay making any mode play like INSTANT mode. Board Width: Change the width of the board Board Height: Change the height of the board Hold Piece: Enable or disable hold piece Next Pieces: Set the number of next pieces to display Rotation System: MODERN - Standard kick table with modified I piece rotations ARCADE - Classic arcade style rotations CONSOLE - Classic console style rotations CELL - Modern rotations with modified piece set Piece Locking: MODERN - Lock delay resets when a piece moves to a new position / rotation ARCADE - Lock delay resets when a piece moves down CONSOLE - No lock delay. This setting also changes gravity speed to use CONSOLE ...

Tetrachroma 1.2.3 Update - Custom Music

Today's update adds some new quality of life features, with the biggest being new support for custom soundtracks. Thanks for your continued feedback and support! Update: There were a couple bugs and unexpected corner cases with the custom soundtrack feature, but I think these are all fixed with the hotfixes. Sorry about the flurry of small patches! Changes Custom soundtrack support: The game now has support for custom music! To add your own music to the game follow these steps: Right click the game from your Steam library, click Manage, then click Browse Local Files. Double click to open the Custom folder, and then open the Music folder contained within the "Custom" folder. Place your music here! The game supports ".mp3", ".flac", and ".ogg" format files. This directory also contains a README.txt containing information on how to setup custom title and game over screen music. Mute when window inactive: The audio options screen now has an option, 'Mute when window inactive' that mutes all audio when the window does not have keyboard focus. This option is off by default. This option is useful if you occasionally need to tab out of the game. Options reset buttons: The audio options, controls handling, gameplay preferences, graphics options, and visuals options screens now have 'Reset' buttons to set options to their default values. Credits cleanup: Moved the 'Scroll Paintings' credits list to the 'Chaos Mode' section. Hotfix: Going back and forth between the options and title menu no longer cycles custom music. Hotfix 1.2.4: Fixed an issue with using custom music with only a single song. Hotfix 1.2.4: When using custom music with custom title, game over, completion, credits, or tutorial music, this music is excluded from the gameplay music pool. Hotfix 1.2.5: Fixed an issue where the custom music would only play from the alternate save folder location.

Tetrachroma 1.2.2 Update - ARCADE Mode Synchros

Today's update adds a new mechanic specific to ARCADE mode called synchro moves (also just called synchros). Synchros are an advanced high gravity technique originally found in classic arcade stacker games. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44983839/f60e3a8755d0661681bdb86a48584f06f280aef3.gif An 'auto synchro' is used to 'skip' the I piece over the small gap. Background on Synchros in Classic Games: In classic titles, a synchro is performed by rotating and shifting a piece within the same 60Hz frame. Because gravity only applies once per frame, this allows for high gravity movements that would otherwise be impossible. It’s somewhat like a 'combo'. Because the mechanic is tied to the game's framerate, certain synchros ('manual synchros') require frame perfect inputs in classic games. Tetrachroma's Synchro Design: Because Tetrachroma is designed for modern, high-refresh rate displays, the traditional frame-based approach doesn't translate well. Instead, the game uses an adjustable 'synchro window'. This approach decouples synchros from the game's framerate and gives players more control over the game's feel. Changes Synchros added to ARCADE mode: In ARCADE mode, pressing rotate or shift to move a piece "into the air" starts a synchro window. More technically, the button press must move the piece out of a soft lock state. During this window, gravity is delayed. If a second input (either another button press or an auto shift) occurs within this window, a synchro may be performed: Auto Synchro: Triggered when the first input is a rotation and second is an auto shift. Manual Synchro: Triggered when both inputs are manual button presses. There are two ways to do this: rotate-then-shift or shift-then-rotate. (Unlike in classic games, the order matters.) Note that double-shift and double-rotate synchros are not allowed. Synchro Move Sound Effect: If a synchro move changes the piece’s resulting position or rotation (e.g. allowing the piece to “jump” a gap), a sound effect will play. This a...

    Tetrachroma 1.2.1 Hotfix

Just a quick update to address a scoring bug and some other minor fixes. Happy stacking and thanks for the support! Changes Bug Fix: Fixed a bug where line clears greater than 4 didn't count for back to back Minor Fixes: Fixed a bug that caused the spin sound effect to incorrectly play in certain circumstances when using initial rotation when the spawn location is blocked. Minor Fixes: The 'ceiling' above the board no longer counts as occupied for purposes of checking occupied spin corners. Minor Fixes: Achieving a high score and then completing the tutorial no longer causes a high score message to display
