JUNE 2026 - DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS UPDATE
Hello! It’s time for another development progress update!Like always, this update is written by both Megalo (Director + Main Artist) and mook (Project Manager + Systems Programmer). For anyone who hasn’t already, you can read our previous development progress update from December 2025 here. So, there is Bad News and Good News. The Bad News MINDWAVE is NOT coming out in 2027. 👽 mook: The September 2027 estimate was a short-sighted prediction of mine based on what other Kickstarter games listed for their estimated delivery dates because Kickstarter requires you to list one. I did my best to communicate that it was essentially an educated guess, but due to being the only available answer to the “release date question”, it ended up catching on in peoples’ minds (understandably so). In hindsight, it was irresponsible to give any kind of estimate when we hadn’t experienced enough of this game’s development process to get a good sample size that we could base a development timeline on. So, for that, I personally apologize. We won’t be ready to announce an updated release window estimate for a while, so please continue to keep up with these progress updates for a look at how far along development is.🌙 Megalo: All that being said, no one wants this game to release more than we do! MINDWAVE is coming out no matter what. If development takes longer than expected, it's because we're making sure the final game is nothing short of amazing.👽 mook: Lastly, we plan on getting in touch with Kickstarter backers who pledged at the Credits Doodle, Inbetween Appearance, and Minigame tiers for their pitches sometime next year. The Good News🌙 Megalo: In the July 2025 progress update, I mentioned experimenting on lobbies with a secret buddy. In the December 2025 progress update, mook and I brought up the lobby experiment again, mentioning that it was in an early state and that it involved our custom scene system. Now we’re ready to show off the experiment! The secret experiment is this. DECEMBER 2025 - DEVELOPMENT PROGRESS UPDATE
Hello! It’s time for another development progress update!Like last time, this update is written by both Megalo (Director + Main Artist) and mook (Project Manager + Systems Programmer). This is mirrored from our recent Kickstarter update. For anyone who hasn’t already, you can read our previous development progress update from July 2025 here.MOOK'S SYSTEMS CORNER👽 mook: Hello, everyone! I hope all who celebrate have had a happy HoloDay season :) The new metagame/timeline system I talked about in the previous development update has made enough progress for me to consider it essentially complete! It’s the sort of system I can always add on to, so it’s hard to ever consider it "done," but it’s at the point where it can now support all of MINDWAVE’s gameplay content moving forward. As a reminder, the metagame system contains a video editor-esque timeline with multiple tracks we can dynamically place events on, and self-contained scenes that we can quickly swap between. It behaves sort of like our own engine-within-an-engine.Here’s an updated look at the timeline system in action:I’ve done the work to port Starlight (Story + Endless) and Tutorial to the metagame system, and it’s proven itself capable enough to handle any design challenges posed by future Minds :)While I do compare it to a video editing interface, the timeline system doesn’t actually have any kind of "visual UI" so to speak. We aren’t dragging and dropping events onto the tracks. It’s all driven by code! In the above video you can see new events getting dynamically placed ahead of the current point in time, like that one Wallace and Gromit bit.The dynamic nature of the metagame system is the secret sauce that will help the game feel no different from before! (or, in some cases, slightly better). This system is much more flexible than the rigid gameplay flow present in the demo, and provides us with much more creative freedom whenever we want to mix things up.LOBBY PROGRESS + STORY PROGRESS🌙 Megalo: More lobb...Read full article on Community Announcements (mook)Patch NotesOfficial
JULY 2025 - PROGRESS UPDATE
This post is mirrored from our recent Kickstarter update, and omits details about physical backer rewards.Hello! It's been a little bit since the last update, and we've got some good stuff to share! Let's jump into what we've been up to with MINDWAVE since the end of the Kickstarter campaign. This update is written by both Megalo (Director + Main Artist) and mook (Project Manager + Systems Programmer).POST-KICKSTARTER BUSINESS👽 mook: Our first priority was to figure out the business end of things. I sent out backer surveys, organized backer info, allowed backers with declined payments to pledge after the campaign, answered a bunch of Kickstarter messages, sorted out legal business, split the money up into different sub-budgets, and set up the ability to get ourselves paid. This business stuff was easy on paper, but it was our first time ever doing this kind of thing, so it ended up a little more daunting once it was actually in front of us. It was a lot for all of us to figure out together, but we got through it!Beyond business stuff, I fixed some bugs for the demo (the last patch was in April, and there may be even more bugs to fix?), and I helped manage our fan art contest. I set up the Google Form for voting, and I put together the winner announcement video. I also worked with the talented krz to make a bot to automatically(-ish) distribute roles to Kickstarter backers in our Discord server.MINDWAVE, MIND 2, AND MORE 🌙 Megalo: After the dust settled with business and post-Kickstarter work, we jumped right into development for the second minigame set in the game, Mind 2! Mind 2 was a weird one for a while. I always knew the general look and sound I wanted for this character’s minigame set, and a vague idea of what they represented to me. Until more recently, Mind 2 was always on the back burner in my mind.Over the years, I had small concept doodles/ideas here and there, but what I wanted really started to click recently once we finally fully jumped in. Me and our ga...Read full article on Community Announcements (mook)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo v1.0.3 Patch Notes
A demo patch has been released! Your title screen should say Demo v1.0.3. If it doesn't, you can verify demo files to force the update. (Game Settings -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of demo files) This should be the final demo patch for the foreseeable future (barring very minor bug fixes) as we fully shift our focus to making further progress on the full game. Here's what we changed: Miscellaneous Added Top 3 Local scores display to Mind Select menu Enabled Steam Cloud saves Previously, if your game profile got corrupted, the game would crash on startup. Now a message displays to tell you your profile is corrupted, then you can continue to the game. A corrupt profile will reset settings and playtime, but will have Mind Select unlocked. Story Mode progress and high scores will not be reset. Fixed various menu crashes that could result from frame-perfect escape key presses Fixed crashes involving invalid Steam profile pictures displaying in the leaderboard. All dialogue strings and other hardcoded strings were moved to lang.json Microgames After thorough testing, we can confirm that the speed cap for endless mode is now where we intend it to be. Regular Endless speed caps at 2.18x, and Simple Endless speed caps at 3x. Fixed a bug where toggling Simple Mode and then playing Standard (story) Starlight would cause the popups to not appear after the speed up/level up. Starlight TRANSFORM! Made the beginning input grace period slightly shorter Tutorial CIRCLE! Improved collision accuracy on the circle Decreased the volume of the win sound effect If you still have issues with any of the problems we claim to have fixed, let us know in the community discussions forum :)Read full article on Community Announcements (mook)Patch NotesOfficial
Demo v1.0.2 Patch Notes
A demo patch has been released! Your title screen should say Demo v1.0.2. If it doesn't, you can verify demo files to force the update. (Game Settings -> Properties -> Installed Files -> Verify integrity of demo files) Here's what we changed: Miscellaneous Fixed a crash that can happen at the end of an Endless run Fixed a white flash that can happen after playing Standard Starlight from Mind Select Adjusted April Herndon's role in the credits to be more clear Adjusted difficulty balancing in Endless mode: harder versions of some microgames should be more common now, and will become more common the longer you play Fixed a crash that could happen when opening the dialogue log while Dom is showing you his song Fixed the dialogue log's scrollbar jumping up if you kept holding down the mouse button after dragging the scrollbar and then closing the log Adjusted an engine setting that may have been preventing some devices from saving and loading (if you were having trouble with this, let us know if this helped!) Microgames Starlight BRUSH! Fixed a bug where the hair can go back to being messy even after winning the microgame PADDLE! Fixed a bug where you can hit the ball after losing the microgame AVOID! Made the heart semi-transparent to signal a certain mechanic Made the microgame harder at higher game speeds DROP! Fixed a crash that could occur when stacking pieces too high JUMP! Various changes to the player animations to hopefully make the controls clearer to first-time players Fixed a bug where you can jump after losing the microgame Fixed a visual bug near the top of the level Fixed a bug where an unintended sound effect can play after winning the microgame Tutorial CIRCLE! Fixed a bug where the first line you draw couldn't be as long as normal Drawing a line at max length will now count as an attempted closed circle instead of cancelling Decreased the line's max length Fixed a crash involving the line being too long CATCH! (Demon) The demon now flies around in a sh...Read full article on Community Announcements (mook)
