About this game

You are a Trailblazer... the captain of a Landship, a powerful vessel shaped by undying dedication and boundless dreams. It is your lifeline through The March, a perilous frontier that thrives by engulfing civilization's remnants. Your mission: blaze a trail across this wilderness and uncover the mystery at its heart.

Trailblazers: Into the March is a roguelite colony-sim that integrates tactical combat with the emotional journey of fully simulated characters. Before setting off you will purchase and customize your Landship, recruit crew members with their own backgrounds and skills, trade supplies and materials, and take on contracts. Once you venture into the March you will have to carefully manage your crew's daily lives, witness their evolving relationships and stories, and defend your moving home in tactical landship battles as you explore the vast, uncharted territories.

In Trailblazers: Into the March, your crew is more than procedural NPCs: they're the companions who will share your struggles and triumphs. Each member is unique, with their own background, skills, and aspirations. Witness their evolution as you navigate The March's unforgiving wilds, nurture their needs, and forge bonds that shape your experience. From creating unexpected friendships to helping them overcome their pasts, your ties with your crew will add unforgettable moments to your exploration.

Your Landship is more than just a vessel: it's a customizable community, your sanctuary in the wilderness. These colossal machines are the heart of your operations, allowing you to push deeper into The March with each journey. Strategic planning is key as you outfit your Landship, manage its resources, and navigate the challenges of space and logistics. Every decision matters as you chart a course through the unknown, forging a path towards the heart of The March.

Engage in tactical landship-to-landship combat amidst the boundless expanse of The March. Real-time action blends with tactical pause, making every skirmish a test of wit and skill. Command your crew and adapt to the shifting battlefield: the morale of your characters will directly impact their performance, adding another layer of strategic depth to each encounter. Victory or defeat – every battle is a testament to your resilience.

The journey is just as important as the destination. Explore the vast and mysterious expanse of The March, encountering enigmatic wonders and unpredictable events along the way. Death is not the end: with each expedition you will keep your progress on the ever-changing grounds of The March, pushing further into the unknown with each daring foray. Embrace the thrill of discovery, uncover the secrets that lie hidden in the depths, and leave your mark as a true Trailblazer.

Behind The Scenes | The Sound of Trailblazers Into The March

Hello everyone. My name is Zachery, but some of you may know me better as Noobert! I am the new community manager here at Strangers Studios! Over the past few months, I have had the great honor of getting to know the team behind Trailblazers Into The March. The whole experience has been very rewarding. So much goes into making a game like Trailblazers Into The March, and today I wanted to pull back the curtain and give you all a glimpse into it. Below is a video I strung together to showcase the work of our very own composer, Vincent Borcard. I hope you all enjoy it as much as we did! Until next time!

Of landship tactics, Kickstarter and other best-laid plans

Hey there Strangers from the internet, I hope life treats you well! It’s your guy, Arn, realizing that Tacticon has begun and we haven't had the time to thank our hosts for putting that event together nor communicate about it. Oh treacherous days running away like wild horses over the hills. Oh unending tides of work and tasks and duties and things to do.I will be taking that time now, try to keep it short and address three things : Tacticon, Kickstarter and Playtests.Of TacticonFirst things first, many thanks to Hooded Horse and FireSquid for selecting our game in the event! It's a dream come true for me, as the games appearing here compose a significant chunk of my experience as a player. I've sunk countless hours on some of those titles and existing in the same space as them feels like an immense privilege and an honor. I think steam forbids giving shout outs outside of the context of cross-promotion, so I wouldn't dare. If I were a cat and had 9 lives I would play them all. In the end, I'm just the ultimate groupie and when I can't sleep I dream of roaming the world and do the equivalent of Netflix's Chef's Table but to interview the people behind those games.Tacticon also brought us another win that made me super happy : An article in Rock, Paper, Shotgun. The article : https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/guide-a-living-landship-through-a-deadly-fungal-world-in-trailblazers-a-roguelite-colony-sim-inspired-by-rimworld-moebius-and-darkest-dungeon As Ice Cube would say, today was a good day.Of KickstarterIt hit me the other night that, in addition to being a groupie, I was also running a business. And that the people roaming the Tacticon event, stumbling on our page, would most probably be my people too. A 4 A.M. smoke epiphany, watching a shy rain trying to wash the heat away. So I take this opportunity to remind y'all that we're going to run a Kickstarter at a certain point. The page is being cooked behind the scenes and we have been extremely lucky to be joined by ...

The bloom is shaping your run

Hello,It’s Vincent, co-founder of the studio working on Trailblazers: Into the March. In this post, I’d like to talk about the Bloom. In the March, Bloom is everywhere (unfortunately for you). It attacks your Landship, triggers Perturbations, hinders your progress, and puts constant pressure on your run. Learning how to deal with it, avoid it, or fight it directly is essential if you want your expeditions into the March to survive. The Trailblazers describe Bloom as the March’s hunger to exist and expand. It is a projection of it’s vital instincts, a corruption altering any carbon-based life it touches. Depending on the host, it can behave like a symbiote, a parasite, or both.Bloom is also a global pressure system. It measures how much the March has noticed your expedition. The Bloom Gauge and the Bloom Awareness window help you understand its current impact on your journey. Every action has a cost increasing the gauge… from fighting, using your scanner too often, extracting resources, crossing bloom terrain or letting it take root inside your landship. When the gauge fills, you reach a new Bloom Stage. A Bloom Event is triggered, the run becomes more unstable, and future manifestations of Bloom become more dangerous. Called perturbations, these events can vary a lot, but they all have one thing in common: they are never a good sign.On the Journey Map, Bloom terrain makes routing more interesting. Sometimes the shortest path goes through a contaminated area. Sometimes an important contract is hidden behind an infested corridor. Eventually just crossing the Bloom will simply be unavoidable. But you will pay the price. Bloom Tiles can appear inside your Landship, slowing your crew, damaging your items, and spreading if ignored. Bloom is not just something you cross on the map. It follows you home. And then there are the Leeches. These Bloom creatures attack your Landship in different ways. Some attach themselves to containers and devour your resources. Others explode afte...

How I learned to stop worrying and love the mountain

Hey there Strangers from the internet, I hope life treats you well. It’s your guy, Arn, game director on Trailblazers : Into the March, back with a new log series for the most curious amongst you.I'm going to be honest, I'm not exactly sure what this series is going to cover. For now, I'm picturing it as an open platform to talk about the project and the intricacies of building a game like ours. But who knows where that will lead us.So if you've ever wondered how people who've never met could transform a whiteboard sticky note into a game ; if you want to learn and ask anything about the project, how it's crafted, or who the humans behind it are ; if you're interested in the challenges, the happy accidents, the highs and lows of a journey like this - you're in the right place. So let me start by answering this question… Where we’re at right now? Back in the beginning of April, we reached a deadline we had set for ourselves. It was defined internally as our first “Alpha” and it was supposed to be the build we would use for open playtests. Playtests that would lead to our first public demo.Technically, we succeeded in implementing the systems we were aiming for, trimming the scope here and there and keeping some big features for later.Players can now experience the full core loop in a single build. In Terminas, they can recruit crew, buy supplies, take on a contract, pick a preset landship layout, and head out into the overworld. From there, they explore journey maps, fight other landships, send their crew on excursions, rebuild their landship interior, secure resources of all kinds, provide for their crew, craft items and gear - and plenty more - all the way to completing the contract, returning to the main hub, and collecting their rewards. It was at this point, benevolent reader, that we realized the nature of the beast we had created. I had longed for this moment. I kept telling my wife that we were soon going to reach a land behind the hills, where peace and conten...

    The spirit - Devlog #07

Hello, my name is Alexander Grenus, and I’m a Game Designer on the team. Today, I'm going to talk about the Spirit and the process of its creation, what inspired it, and how the system currently interacts with other game mechanics already in place.Alex's portrait.Who am I ?I currently live in Austria and have been working in game design for quite some time. My first project dates back to 2000, with my first official release in 2007 with Steel Walker!Later, I joined stillalive studios, where I worked for about ten years. During that time, I contributed to around ten games before eventually joining Trailblazers: Into the march. My passion for game development started very early thanks to my older brother. I used to watch him play on PC, and one day he brought home Command & Conquer and THAT was the moment I knew I wanted to become a game designer.Since 2017 I also work as a lecturer in game design and project management.Alex's game box and a gameplay image from "Command & Conquer".The Spirit :Work in progressWhen I joined the project, the Spirit concept already existed. To better understand the original vision, I watched Howl’s Moving Castle, particularly the character Calcifer, which served as a key inspiration!Calcifer and the moving castle from the movie "Howl’s Moving Castle".The initial idea was that the spirit is what allows the ship to move. From there, the design team worked on adapting the concept so it would properly support both the game’s narrative and its mechanics. In the current version, the Spirit resides in the heart of the landship and is connected in some way to the March (and the Bloom, which we’ll discuss another time). Its presence prevents the ship from being consumed by the Bloom.→ The Spirit cannot move on its own and relies on crew members to be transported, creating a form of symbiosis: the humans depend on the Spirit for protection, while the Spirit depends on the humans for mobility.→ The Spirit also enables the production of Pneuma, an esse...
