About this game

▶ OPERATION ATHENA FEATURES:

Modern Tactical Action:

Operation Athena delivers a modern take on classic tactical shooters with a stronger action edge. It’s built around coordinated squad pushes and constant pressure, while still rewarding smart movement, positioning, and teamwork over pure speed.

Bold and Dynamic AI:

Enemy forces don’t just stand and shoot. They flank, reposition, react to sound, dynamically choose and hold defensive positions, and make use of nearby cover. AI spawns are handled by a level-specific director, giving each map its own thematically appropriate enemy setups while changing where enemies appear from one mission to the next. Expect enemies to fall back, flank, hold ground, and counterattack throughout each mission.

Immersive and Impactful Gunplay:

Every weapon has its own feel, with tuned recoil, penetration, and punchy feedback. Suppressors support quieter approaches, while a range of optic options lets you tailor your rifle for close-quarters fights or longer engagements. Gunplay is smooth, responsive, and built to keep firefights intense without feeling arcade-fast.

▶ SOLO OPERATIONS & TEAM AI:

Single-player offers its own dedicated experience built around flexibility and squad command.

Play completely alone or deploy alongside a commandable squad of AI teammates. Direct your team throughout the mission, order them to follow or hold position, send them to specific locations, and prepare coordinated doorway entries.

Teammates can stack beside doors, open them, breach and clear rooms, or use a flashbang before entering.

▶ Athena Teamlead

Solo players use the dedicated Athena Teamlead class rather than the four specialized multiplayer roles.

Athena Teamlead combines the weapons and equipment normally divided between multiplayer classes into one flexible loadout. Solo players have access to all primary weapon categories, expanded secondary weapon options, additional medical supplies, grenades, flashbangs, and breaching charges.

Athena Teamlead also has its own independent appearance customization and saved loadout.

▶ CLASS-BASED MULTIPLAYER:

Online co-op uses four specialized Operator classes, each with unique equipment or abilities designed to encourage teamwork.

Choose your role carefully and work with your squad to complete the operation.

▶ Team Leader:

  • The Team Leader embodies command, guiding the squad and keeping the mission on track. When the odds turn grim, he can call in one reinforcement over the radio to bring fresh strength into the fight.

  ▶ Medic:

  • The Medic is responsible for providing medical support to injured teammates and ensuring the squad's survivability during combat engagements. The Medic will utilize equipment to render aid to injured team members.

  ▶ Support Gunner:

  •  The Support Gunner specializes in providing suppressive fire and firepower support to the team. The Support Gunner will carry additional ammunition to reinforce the team.

    ▶ Breacher:

  • The Breacher is tasked with gaining entry into fortified or barricaded enemy positions. The Breacher will utilize a breaching shotgun and will also be equipped with additional explosives.

▶ GAME MODES:

▶ Elimination (Terrorist Hunt):

  • A classic tactical shooter staple—clear the map of all hostiles. Every encounter plays differently thanks to dynamic AI spawning and enemy behaviors.

▶ Hostage Rescue:

  • Infiltrate, secure, and extract. Rescue hostages from fortified enemy positions, balancing speed and caution while navigating the risks of friendly fire and unexpected resistance.

▶ Bomb Threat:

  • Find and defuse planted explosives before time runs out. Work with your team to clear rooms, defuse the explosives, and navigate through challenging and dynamic enemy AI.

▶ RAID Game Mode:

  • Locate and extract high-value crates using gathered intel while enemy reinforcements assault you. Your squad must recover every target and fight your way out together, creating a tense, objective-driven experience that pressures you unlike any other mode in Operation Athena.

▶ Operations in Locations Around the Globe:

  • From villas and galleries to sand-swept compounds and urban high-rises, missions unfold across varied international locations. Each map brings unique tactical opportunities with strategically built level design, interactive lighting, and dynamic enemy encounters.

▶ Weapon Variety:

Your loadout evolves with an ever-expanding selection of weapons.

  • Operation Athena equips you with a focused selection of firearms built for every situation. From close-quarters SMGs to precision rifles and high-capacity support weapons, each gun is designed to fill a distinct role and keep your squad mission-ready.

▶ Story:

  • It's the 2020s, a terrorist network known as “OPHID” has been funded by world governments such as the CCP, The Russian Federation and others. OPHID has begun ramping up their attacks across the globe, including the United States. OPHID is no longer an enemy hiding in the shadows. Tier 1 operators across the globe have been selected to participate in and join “Athena Team”, an extremely covert and sophisticated fighting force. As a member of Athena Team you have been tasked with locating, and destroying members of OPHID. Participate in Operations across the globe, From extracting members of world government who have been taken hostage, to raiding training grounds.

Athena Transmission #01 — Expanded Customization, New Map, Audio & Team AI

What We’re Working On — Operation Athena Welcome to ATHENA TRANSMISSION #01, a new way for us to keep you updated on what’s currently happening behind the scenes with Operation Athena. Development is moving across a lot of different areas right now, with a major focus on strengthening and expanding the systems already in the game rather than chasing a single headline feature. For this transmission, we’re covering some of the work going into expanded character and weapon customization, a new map, Team AI improvements, utility changes, additional weapon options, and our upcoming audio overhaul. Expanded Character Customization {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44925705/613c530dcda5a1284db11005c58b5bac5f1183d6.png Character customization is being expanded with more material choices, variants, and additional customization options across existing equipment. We’re also beginning to make some of these choices more meaningful beyond simply changing how your character looks. One of the first examples of this is night vision equipment. Night vision will now rely on your character actually wearing compatible headgear and equipment rather than simply being available regardless of your appearance setup. This is only a starting point, but we want equipment selection to gradually have more interesting considerations while still giving players plenty of freedom to customize their operator. We’ve also continued improving the underlying customization system to make it more reliable and easier to expand with additional equipment and options going forward. Major Gun Customization Improvements {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44925705/e1ee77991fcc3268a43606811ca5775e264a75c1.png Gun customization is receiving one of its largest updates so far. Alongside a significantly improved and easier-to-use interface, we’ve been rebuilding parts of the underlying system into a proper baseline gun-part system that we can continue expanding instead of relying on increasingly specialized weapon variants. Some of the changes curre...

Dev Update — Squad AI, New Map, and Gameplay Improvements

Hey Operators,Here’s a quick development update to keep everyone on Steam in the loop. We’ve been putting a lot of time into a few core systems and new content, so we wanted to share what’s currently in progress.Friendly Team AIWe’ve been working hard on a friendly squad AI system. The command wheel and basic orders are already in the game, including the ability to send teammates to positions and order them to breach/open doors, but we’re currently expanding this into a more complete system. The goal isn’t to make a super complicated mil-sim style command system, but instead to have squad members that feel like complimentary units that support the player without getting in the way. We want them to be useful and responsive; keeping the gameplay smooth and easy to control. Some of the things we’re working on right now include:Improving how AI reacts during combatBetter room clearing behaviorMore reliable breaching logicFlashbang / frag usage during entryMaking breach and clear commands feel more naturalWe want to get this system right, but we also don’t want to hold everything back waiting for it to be perfect. The current plan is to release a V1 version of the expanded AI, get it into the game, and then continue improving it over time. This is a core part of the experience, so it’s something we expect to keep refining as development continues.Drug Bunker MapWe’ve been working on a new map internally, currently called the drug bunker. This is a brand new underground environment focused on tight concrete interiors and close-quarters engagements. The map includes grow rooms, work areas and LOTS of connected interior spaces, with lighting playing a big role in how each area feels. Some sections are fully lit, while others are darker and more confined, which changes how you approach clearing it.This is shaping up to be one of the most different maps we’ve built so far, both in layout and overall atmosphere.New Gun AnimationsWe’ve started updating weapon animations to make ha...
