Venture into the tranquil world of Knytt Classic, an indie adventure game where you play as the Knytt, navigating through complex mazes to gather your lost ship parts and return home.
About this game
The indie freeware classic returns! It's been 20 years since visionary Swedish indie developer Nifflas (Rhythm Doggo, Ynglet) released Knytt, the first title in the atmospheric platforming series. Made with the help of a passionate group of internet forum collaborators, the game was released for free on the web in 2006, and later followed up by Knytt Stories (2007) and Knytt Underground (2012). IGN called Knytt "an extremely soothing and memorable ambient adventure", while Edge Magazine remarked it was "pure platforming pleasure and a wonderfully soothing soundscape."
To help celebrate the 20th anniversary, Bit Kid (Chasm, WOLFHOUND) is proud to present Knytt Classic, a free pixel-perfect port with full controller support, achievements, bonus modes, display effects, and much more!
Story
Guide the Knytt, a peaceful being who is abducted by aliens for a cruise across the solar system and ends up crash-landing on another world. Explore the atmospheric, maze-like planet and collect all the parts from your crashed ship in order to return home. As Edge put it, "There’s no combat, no switches, and no real puzzles to speak of, just plentiful checkpoints, pure platforming pleasure and a wonderfully soothing soundscape."

Nifflas Knytt Interview
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46253535/62d646871591c94ce7a1d70ef5e7fb28021ef489.png Knytt Classic has been out for just over a month now, and I'm excited to report that over 75,000 Steam users have added it to their library. A huge thanks to everyone who has played, left reviews, and reported bugs. I'm really happy to see it connecting with so many people, especially those that never played it before. As I went through development of Knytt Classic a lot of questions sprung to mind, especially about the origins of the project and Nifflas getting his start in game dev. So just before launch, I jumped on the opportunity to conduct a short interview with him. A huge thanks to Nifflas for taking the time to answer! Q: How long were you making games before starting work on Knytt? A: Knytt was one of the first games I had made, I had made three small games before and only one of them (Within a Deep Forest) had gained a bit of popularity. It’s a game I primarily wanted to design as a “place” rather than a story or challenge. So, making it was mainly having a very simple set of movements, then spending a lot of time just creating the world. Q: Knytt is one of the first titles I remember hearing about that was collaborated on over the internet. What led to that? A: I knew musicians from an IRC channel called #modarchive and it came quite naturally that I’d ask them to help me with music. Q: How did you approach designing out the world? Did you start with the crash scene and work outwards from there? A: I designed Knytt’s world from left to right-ish. It was mostly done by feel without any plan, and if I remember right, this was quite intentional. The world feeling like a place rather than existing as a challenge to the player felt important to me. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/46253535/890579fdc2d62d3660d034ef11f33901ede8f019.png Originally published on Knytt's website in 2006 as sources of inspiration. Q: How did you arrive at wall climbing as the primary traversal mechanic? A: I don’t remember w...Read full article on Community Announcements (Bit Kid)Patch NotesOfficial

Patch 1.001 Released
Thanks so much to everyone who's grabbed the game! We're already up to 45k activations on Steam alone. Nifflas and I are honestly overwhelmed by the glowing reviews and incredibly positive reception of the game. It was definitely a labor love, but seeing people experiencing the game and talking about again makes it all worth it! This first patch fixes a few minor bugs and has a couple accuracy fixes I got called out on, namely the purple void at the very bottom of the map and the classic 2-key keyboard cheats. Please let me know if you have any other problems, and thanks again for an amazing launch! -James 1.001 ----------------- - added classic 2-key keyboard cheats (cheat displays will show these when using keyboard) - added a bit more leniency to cheat combo timing - added purple void to the main mode (does not count towards Map Exploration %) - fixed a collision block soft lock at the tower near intro - fixed in-game timer going offscreen for 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratiosRead full article on Community Announcements (Bit Kid)Press Coverage
Knytt, one of 2006's most charming indie platformers, has a surprise Steam re-release - and it’s still free
2006 saw, among such other major events as analogue TV being switched off in Luxembourg, the release of Knytt: a breezy freeware platformer in which you spend a nice couple of hours gathering up parts for your crashed spaceship. While not entirely devoid of light peril, so tranquil and airily atmospheric was Knytt’s run-and-jumpery that someone once asked, among these very pages, whether you could consider it a walking simulator. Solo dev Nifflas has long since moved on, but Knytt itself has just been reborn as Knytt Classic: a "pixel-perfect port" for modern hardware, developed by Wolfhound makers Bit Kid and freshly launched on Steam. Still for free, of course, and with Nifflas’ blessing. Read moreRead full article on Rock, Paper, Shotgun
