Explore Alruna and the Necro-Industrialists, an indie adventure that challenges you to break sequences and play out of order. Developed by Neckbolt, this 2024 release offers a high-density Metroidvania experience with compact levels designed for sequence-breaking fun.
About this game
All manner of thing shall be well
Welcome to a compact, tightly packed Metroidvania, where the Square Aspect Ratio and Single Screen Level Design allows every one of the 200+ rooms to slot into the larger puzzle-box of the world; where secrets, exploits and sequence-breaking are built into the very foundation of the game; and where the overarching story doesn’t care too much which path you happen to take through the game.

Play the bosses out of order, why don’t you? Spawn your own Climbing Vines and sneak past difficult puzzles. Find a fifth secret temple in the east. Skip picking up any weapon and get by using only special abilities. Is it possible? Who knows!
Beloved, I have promised you violence
Alruna is a dryad in a dying world – a spirit of life in the land of the dead. The earth is sucked dry. There is only The Sprawl. Poor, bedraggled skele-men dot the Wasteland of the Necro-Industrialists and shuffle endlessly back and forth in a toiling mockery of life. But are they the real enemy? Or do the skeletons suffer just as much as the dryads under the domination of the Necro-Industrialists?
And salvation? Is it possible? Dead men yearn for Heaven. But the dead can only dig...

A land of plenty? The Sprawl goes on forever!
An overworld that connects all areas of the game.
Four large “temples”, each one with a powerful upgrade and a formidable boss.
Maybe a secret fifth temple? There are rumors…
A star-crossed enemies-to-lovers romance with a rival adventurer. No spoilers!
Multiple endings, let’s call them the “combat ending” and the “exploration ending”.
Hidden mini-games, power-ups, shortcuts and secrets behind every wall.

Alruna 2: Demo is up on Steam
The Necro-Industrialists still grip the worldAlruna: End of History on SteamSwedish solo-developer Niklas Hallin is announcing their pixel-art puzzle-platformer Alruna: End of History, the second game in the Alruna series. A gameplay evolution, but not a direct story sequel. The Necro-Industrialists still grip the world, and flower-nymph Alruna must jump, slide and dash through rotting cathedrals in her search for salvation – for herself and others.“It’s in widescreen now!” says developer Niklas Hallin. “And you can shoot! I had all these divergent paths from the first game, big choices I saved for a sequel. And here we are now. I have to keep making Alruna games, because I have hundreds of new ideas, and here’s a game where they can all fit in.”Alruna, sweet Alruna, can you feel the emptiness? What little remains of the material world has long since been hollowed out by the Necro-Industrialists. But listen, Alruna, there's another dryad, so very much like you. She is Divinity's Creature, she is Heaven's Gate. Torment is her lot, Alruna. Will you be her savior? Or will you let her go? Life is suffering, but suffering brings salvation.Beyond the End of History lies the promise of Elysium.Alruna: End of History on SteamRead full article on Community Announcements (hallinniklas)Patch NotesOfficial
Alruna Patch 1.10
Hello! I'm pushing a tiny little patch for Alruna. I have had remarkable few issues with this release, actually (although speedrunners are having a blast finding countless exploits!). Here are a few changes in this update: Fixed an issue where pausing the game could de-sync some puzzles, especially the melting ice. Fixed some typos! Alruna no longer gets her feet stuck in the floor if you tab out of the game window. :) There was a small heart hidden behind a stone-block. It's now actually hidden!Read full article on Community Announcements (hallinniklas)AnnouncementsOfficial
New and improved demo version for Alruna!
Good evening, everyone! After running the Alruna Demo through the Steam Next Fest in February, I have now put up a new, updated version of the demo, with a whole lot of fixes based on feedback. We had a discussion thread up and running during the Next Fest, and I’m very happy to see so many people taking the time to bombard me with their opinions! Here are a few of the major changes to this updated demo version: The super-jump now takes an even shorter time to charge up. The controversial charged jump is still in the game, of course, but it’s quicker now, and it feels bouncier and more like a little hop-skip-and-a-jump. It is now possible to attack while crouching! Long awaited feature. Perform a low-hit by crouching down and attack. (This screwed up a boss later in the game, I had to adjust that!) It is now possible to “buffer slide” through little holes. You can now let go of ladders by jumping, look left and right while crouching, and crouch again and again by just holding down the button. The game’s button layout is now visible in the pause screen, and you can also flip the attack button to an alternative layout from the options menu. All placeholder music has been replaced with final tracks. Thanks again to everyone who participated in the Next Fest! The full game has a whole lot more areas to explore, and much stranger abilities to unlock. It also features the answer to the mystery of what to do with the blue water drops, which went very unexplained in the demo! All the best, Niklas HallinRead full article on Community Announcements (hallinniklas)
