About this game

☵ HIRAETH:

HIRAETH is a first‑person hard sci‑fi survival game set on the alien world of Ahra Prime. Manage oxygen, suit integrity, temperature, stamina, injuries, craft tools and weapons, explore handcrafted regions, face predators and environmental hazards, and uncover the mystery of a vanished colony.

A gripping hard sci-fi survival experience about isolation, resilience, and the quiet search for belonging in an alien wilderness.

Hiraeth – a word for the ache of longing for a home you’ve never seen —
and for those stranded on Ahra Prime, it becomes something more.

Is home a place you return to… or one you forge in the void?

You awaken alone on Ahra Prime—a vast, unforgiving planet where a thriving colony once stood. Now it's silent. Empty bases hum with failing power. Systems flicker. But no one remains. Every breath draws from dwindling oxygen. Every step risks suit failure or unseen predators. Every choice echoes across a world that doesn't care if you survive.

Your only goal: endure long enough to unravel the mystery of what happened here—and decide what home means when everything familiar is gone.

Who is unique ☵ HIRAETH for?

HIRAETH is not a simple or forgiving survival game. It’s built for players who enjoy:

  • Hard sci‑fi survival — deep, demanding systems where oxygen, power, hunger, hydration, temperature, and suit integrity matter every minute. No hand‑holding; every mistake has consequences.

  • Atmospheric, immersive worlds — a slow‑burn alien environment that rewards patience, observation, and curiosity.

  • Exploration with real tension — a handcrafted island you can scout from afar, dynamic day/night cycles, and unpredictable encounters.

  • Developed by a solo true indie creator — with a proven track record of consistent updates, transparent communication, and a world shaped directly by community feedback.

  • Games that grow on you — tough at first, deeply rewarding once you learn its logic and uncover its mysteries.

Survive the Unknown

HIRAETH blends hard sci‑fi survival with atmospheric exploration. Every system is designed to keep you on edge:

  • Oxygen, hydration, hunger, temperature, stamina, and suit integrity

  • Equipment durability and maintenance

  • Dynamic time and weather affecting fatigue, item wear, and visibility

  • Predators, environmental hazards, and unpredictable encounters

There’s no hand‑holding, no guided path — even in shelters and bases, danger is never far.

Just you, your EVA suit, and a planet that wants you gone.

Explore Ahra Prime

Your journey begins on Nesoi Island, a handcrafted region you can scout from afar — even through a sniper scope. Explore land, underwater caverns, abandoned structures, and ruins. Every location hides resources, lore fragments, and clues about the world’s collapse.

As Early Access progresses, Ahra Prime will expand dramatically with new biomes, regions, and vehicles that unlock previously unreachable areas.

Ways to Play

ETERNAL Mode

An endless survival sandbox where every run is a test of skill and adaptation. Learn the systems, push deeper into the world, and uncover lore that evolves with each attempt.

REVELATIONS – Story Mode

A narrative journey told across five chapters. Discover the truth behind Ahra Prime, guided by the enigmatic Stranger. Each chapter offers a complete arc with no cliffhangers — culminating in a grand finale.

Story Mode begins unfolding during Early Access, with quests, messages, and early narrative systems already in place.

Grow Stronger With Every Attempt

HIRAETH rewards mastery and experimentation:

  • Progressive Skills & Perks that shape your playstyle

  • Challenge Mode arriving during Early Access for structured objectives

  • Over 20 Steam achievements available from day one, with many more planned

  • Multiple difficulty levels, from relaxed exploration to brutal survival

Every run feels different thanks to randomization, player choice, and evolving world systems.

Tools, Gear, and Companions

  • Crafting & Upgrades — build tools, weapons, and survival gear

  • EVA Suit enhancements — improve resistance, efficiency, and survivability

  • Companions — choose between a quirky alien slug or a high‑tech droid

  • Vehicles — traverse long distances and reach remote locations

  • Full Body Awareness — see your entire body and equipment in first‑person (optional for motion‑sensitive players)

For New Players

A dedicated Training Course introduces the core mechanics, ensuring everyone can learn the systems at their own pace.

Audio & Atmosphere

Immerse yourself in the desolation of Ahra Prime with an electronic soundtrack crafted to enhance tension, loneliness, and discovery.

Built With Passion

HIRAETH is created by a solo developer who works closely with the community. Frequent updates, transparent communication, and player‑driven improvements are at the heart of the project.

If you enjoy titles like The Long Dark, The Solus Project, Subnautica, or Returnal, you’ll feel right at home — or as close to home as Ahra Prime will ever let you get.

Why Single Player?

HIRAETH is designed as a deeply personal journey:

  • Full control over pacing and exploration

  • No waiting for others, no toxicity, no interruptions

  • A world that grows with you, not against you

  • A game you can return to years later — no servers required

Why HIRAETH Stands Out

Most survival games follow a familiar loop. HIRAETH breaks the mold with:

  • Innovative survival systems

  • Meaningful progression

  • Atmospheric worldbuilding

  • Player freedom and replayability

  • Accessibility without sacrificing depth

  • Elegance over grind

Your story on Ahra Prime is yours alone.

Every choice matters. Every mistake teaches. Every discovery pulls you deeper.

Useful HE and EVA Suit Improvements

Welcome, SurvivorsToday’s update brings a few small but important fixes that improve consistency and prevent unintended damage events.HE Collision CorrectedApplies to 12 mm Mini‑HE Rounds for the Hybrid Auto Launcher 2K (HAL 2K).HE projectiles could sometimes detonate after hitting the cloud of another projectile mid‑flight. At close range, this could cause accidental damage to the player. This behavior is now corrected.Reminder: HE rounds still deal damage on proper impact — walls, terrain, or enemies.EVA Suit Damage – Correct Breathing Behavior at Integrity 0When Suit Integrity reached 0, breathing lock activated correctly — but suffocation also triggered even with an open visor, without a helmet, or in breathable zones. This is now fixed. You only suffocate when all conditions are met:Suit Integrity = 0visor closedno breathable air in the environmentRegards, Paweł

Survivors, Your Achievements Are Back 👌🏻

Hello Survivors! 👨🏻‍🚀Today’s update brings an important fix related to Steam achievements — proper unlocking and full achievement support inside the Statistics tab.Achievements Are Working AgainAs mentioned earlier, I’ve been working on updating the Steam achievement system for the new engine version. Yesterday’s attempt didn’t succeed, but today it finally did. I tested unlocking the new achievement The Xibal’Teh Descent, which I successfully earned after this update.Other achievements should now unlock correctly for everyone. If any achievement still fails to unlock on your side, please let me know.Note: Steam’s achievement pop‑up behaves inconsistently. Sometimes it appears immediately in‑game, sometimes only after exiting Hiraeth — just like The Xibal’Teh Descent did for me. I’ll continue investigating, but as far as I know, Steam handles caching differently depending on the session. For now, the game also shows an additional in‑game message when you unlock an achievement. This may disappear soon — I used it temporarily for testing, and sometimes it shows notifications for achievements already earned.Achievements in TAB → STATISTICSThis section was previously empty. Now you’ll find all achievements you’ve unlocked. The layout will change visually in the future, but the system already works. Sometimes icons may load with a delay, but text appears instantly. You’ll also see your unlocked count vs. total achievements.Leaderboards coming soon The new code now in Hiraeth will allow me to add leaderboards both in‑game and on the website. Personally, I’m very curious which of my friends has cooked more steaks or killed more spiders — and I think you might be too!The promotion is now live — enjoy!Have a great Sunday, Paweł

Deep Diving & EVA Suit Improvements

Welcome, survivors! 👨🏻‍🚀Today’s update focuses on diving and the EVA Suit — a set of new underwater mechanics and improvements. Dive in and check out what’s new! Dive & EVA Suit UpdateOxygen consumption now scales with dive depth — the deeper you go, the faster you use oxygen, with an additional multiplier based on the selected difficulty level. The safe depth limit is 30 meters. Below this threshold, the EVA Suit begins to take pressure damage depending on depth and difficulty. The suit’s condition is monitored continuously, with status checks every ~3 seconds.Destroying the EVA Suit (Integrity 0) now cuts off your ability to breathe — oxygen flow is blocked even with a full tank. Even a minor repair restores breathing.Added a cracked‑visor effect when the EVA Suit is damaged. For now, the effect disappears after a standard repair using Duct Tape.Added a dedicated dive light — especially useful now that deeper areas are significantly darker.Temporarily increased swimming speed from 300 → 600 cm/s. This makes underwater exploration easier; the original speed will return once swimming “boosters” are added.Depth Warning Indicator: A red warning light now appears around the depth icon when you go beyond the safe limit. You will soon be able to exceed the 30‑meter dive limit. Upcoming additions include EVA Suit upgrades improving durability and underwater sealing, a stronger EVA Suit variant, a mini‑submersible, and fins to increase underwater movement speed.Underwater Visual UpdateSome visual changes have been added, but the system will continue to evolve. Creating a dynamic underwater environment is complex — available tutorials don’t cover depth‑based lighting changes, dynamic time‑of‑day, or shifting conditions. In HIRAETH, everything is dynamic, so the underwater system must be unique. This takes time, and I don’t want to delay other gameplay features you’ll benefit from sooner.Current improvements:visual response to actual dive depth — darker the deeper you go,time...

The UE 5.8 Power Update & The Rise of the Underwater World

Hello Survivors! 👨🏻‍🚀Today brings a major update: HIRAETH has been upgraded to the newest version of Unreal Engine — 5.8.This is not a race for shiny new features. It’s a crucial stability and performance update that also unlocks new possibilities already visible in today’s build — including the first pass of dense coral and underwater vegetation filling the ocean floor.Below is a full breakdown of what changed.New Engine: Unreal Engine 5.8A significantly improved game engine with better stability, performance, and compatibility with modern hardware. Many of the new UE 5.8 features will be extremely useful for ☵ HIRAETH moving forward.Stability & PerformanceUE 5.8 introduces improved rendering stability and better GPU utilization. I have not enabled Lumen Lite yet, but it is expected to greatly reduce GPU load — especially important for older graphics cards.Mesh TerrainMesh Terrain is a huge revolution. In short, it allows fully customizable terrain shapes, easy creation of caves, rock formations, and complex geological structures.I’ve been watching this feature for a long time, planning to use it for new post‑Nesoi locations — and likely for future updates to Nesoi Island itself.Epic’s example and documentationPCG System (Procedural Content Generation)PCG is Unreal’s new world‑generation system — a massive upgrade over the foliage system used in ☵ HIRAETH since the beginning.PCG offers far more flexibility and, as my tests show, is significantly more efficient than traditional foliage. It is already in use today to decorate the ocean floor around Nesoi.Ocean Floor in the New PCG SystemThe first area using PCG is the ocean floor — from Harbor, through The Last Drop, and the cape near Marsh Shelter by Pier 3.A large amount of coral and underwater vegetation has been added. This is the first update to the underwater world, and only the beginning.Load Testing & Streaming ImprovementsThis update is primarily a stress test: filling underwater terrain with dense, detailed ...
