Now 60 FPS on Steam Deck

Steam Deck Performance UpdateI've just finished a quick test of some engine changes that have restored Boons & Burdens to 60fps when running on Steam Deck. The nice thing is that this works for the most recent Proton build/the one it ships with. So you won't need to force compatibility anymore (but if you still have issues, try version 9.0-4).For the time being, this update is only available on the "steamdeck" branch. To access that:Switch to an experimental branch: Properties > game versions and betas > "steamdeck"Disable Steam Input under the "controller" settings if the controls stop responding on Steam Deck. It uses SDL 3, so it's already compatible with most devices without using Steam Input, and can sometimes conflict with it.Once I have more feedback and I'm sure nothing else broke because of these changes, I'll move this to the main branch.Enjoy!

    Regarding Steam Deck

Welcome new and old!Boons & Burdens has recently found itself having a bit of a resurgence. It's been 2 years since it exited Early Access, and as a solo developer, that's basically an eternity.I know some of you have purchased this with the intent of playing it on the Steam Deck. I also have been made aware that camera scrolling drops the frame rate on the Steam Deck, currently. When I first made this game, I didn't have a Steam Deck for testing, so I relied on feedback from Valve and my players in Discord. Everything seemed good way back when, during Early Access. I have video from players running on deck at 60 fps (or high 50s during heavy action). So I'm not sure what changed over time.I have a Steam Deck now, and I am currently looking into the issues. I don't know if I'll be able to deliver a solution, but I'm working on it.For the time being, the best way to play is on PCI'll update soon with anything I find.Sorry for any inconvenience, but I hope you enjoy this little game I made on PC.Update #01It seems Proton and the game's engine have drifted apart in their old age, and no longer play nice with one another, but there is a way to improve performance a bit for the time being. In the Steam Settings for Boons & Burdens:Switch to an experimental branch: Properties > game versions and betas > "steamdeck"Once you have this version installed, force compatibility to 9.0-4 under "compatibility"And finally, disable Steam Input under the "controller" settings if the controls stop respondingThis was able to improve the fps for me considerably, but it was still fluctuating a lot. It mostly held around 45 while moving and shooting, and overall felt pretty smooth despite the dips.I know this is not ideal, and hopefully I'll have a better solution in the future. Update #02With the help of another dev, we've found the bottleneck with current Proton compatibility. And will hopefully be able to supply a solution...Not sure how long it could take. Hopefully soon. It's mostly o...

    New Game: Gunlocked 2

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44735951/3c6737ced951c49e81af9ab5560123f9047c6870.gif I’m excited to finally announce Gunlocked 2! Making the original roguelite shoot ‘em up was such a formative moment in my life that I knew if I was ever going to make a sequel it had to be special. For a while, however, I wasn’t sure how. So I’ve spent the past few years experimenting with various spins on the formula, learning what works, and what doesn’t. And after a few extra twists and turns in the journey, it’s finally here (almost). Wishlist it today: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3492830/Gunlocked_2 The first game’s success was a welcome surprise that changed my life, but it was limited by its originally modest ambitions. When tens of thousands of players joined the fight against the Swarm, the game expanded beyond anything I previously planned. But it could only reach so far outside its original constraints. A sequel was the only way to make things bigger and better. Gunlocked 2 is, planned from the start to be, a premium indie game that can stand toe-to-toe with the best action RPGs, shmups, and roguelites. It has everything you loved about the original, and many improvements to the formula based on years of feedback. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44735951/a0d9b0afdfb759438d0162d13f8ca63d7a32aefe.gif It's the biggest, and most ambitious FromLefcourt game yet. And you can help make it even bigger, and even better. A Kickstarter campaign is now underway to fund a more expansive version of the sequel that will deliver extra content and challenges from day 1! Support the Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/fromlefcourt/1010217824?ref=6b9sev&token=422002d2 Gunlocked 2 will launch into Early Access on Steam for PC in Q3 2025, proudly keeping the FromLefcourt tradition of heavy community involvement. Unlike more recent games, I expect a long development period full of huge content updates that will dwarf the original in scope and spectacle! About Gunlocked 2 Movement is your weapon. A...

    Patch 1.08

This small patch is just to address some special combinations of upgrades that could soft lock the game in rare instances. Fixed an issue where a combination of cursed boons could prevent the Burden of Restraint from being completed Fixed an issue with Summoning Tree (necromancy) and certain Snow Guard and frost talents that could create a near endless loop of summons when bosses were supposed to spawn.
