About this game

Carvival is a roguelite top-down shooter where you control a customized, weaponized car, navigating diverse biomes, battling foes, and collecting resources to reach each biome's exit. Unique boss enemies await at the end of each biome. In the hidden Garage Nexus, you can upgrade your vehicle with weapons like poison gas, bombs, axes, and a katana, offering strategic gameplay. This game blends action with a story of resilience, investigating "The Pulse" origins in a transformed world.

Mechanics

  • Move and Shoot:
Steering the car ensures your weapons target enemies effectively; weapons operate automatically, with some locking onto targets while others fire continuously.

  • Drifting:
Your car tires create various effects during drifts, such as fire, toxic smoke, ice, or incendiary oil. Abilities: When you discover perk cards, you gain new abilities like Attack Speed, Damage, Max Health, Double Bullets, Electric Bullets, Fire Bullets, and Ice Bullets.

  • Weapons:
You can carry four different skills that activate automatically, triggering various combos depending on timing and location. Your weapons include emitting poison gas, throwing bombs from behind, throwing boomerang-like axes, and katana

  • Garage Nexus:
Here, you enhance your vehicles on a session-by-session basis using collected gold. Enemies: Varied adversaries attempt to harm you, including those who charge and explode, throw bombs, or launch explosive projectiles.

Dev Diary 1 - How it started

https://store.steampowered.com/app/2626430/Carvival/ Hello folks, today I will tell you about my game idea and how I started this game. My game is called Carvival, and this game is actually a spontaneous project. One day I decided to develop vehicle physics in unity just for fun. Making vehicle physics is a very enjoyable thing for me, because I know a lot about vehicles and I want to simulate them realistically. That's when a game called Brotato caught my eye on youtube, it's a very fun top down-bullet hell game where you manage a potato and blast incoming aliens. After watching the video of the game I immediately fell in love with it and I bought the game and started playing it. The graphics, sounds, music and controls of the game were very good, but what I liked the most was that we can add new weapons to the potato, we can attach 6 weapons to the potato and each weapon has different properties, which makes the gameplay very fun. And that's when I had an idea: What if instead of a potato we could drive a fast car? I was very excited about this idea, because I could make a game like this using my vehicle physics. I immediately opened unity and started to develop my vehicle physics a little bit more. I added a drift feature to my vehicle physics, so the car could slide around corners and make it a more fun driving experience. I never thought an arcade car physics could be so fast and beautiful. So how did I make this vehicle physics? It's actually very easy, everyone who develops games in unity has made a ball rolling game, so I made a ball in the same way and made the vehicle body follow it. So the movements of the ball were reflected in the movements of the vehicle. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44695469/70f22263002f51eb4d793cd0c3841dcab6519409.gif But is that enough? I mean, we just put a ball and we connect the car to it, but I can't adjust how much the car turns, how much the car drifts, so I thought about it and decided to use animationcurves. With animationcurves, the ...

    Carvival wishlist now on!

The game I've just started developing, I want to focus on elements like speed and adrenaline. It includes bullet hell and roguelite elements. Right now the core gameplay loop is ready and I think it's a lot of fun, if you have feature suggestions for the game I'd love to hear them. I'm thinking of a level based progression, procedural-handmade hybrid levels. Apart from cars, speed and drifting, I will add an overloading system for weapons as a unique feature, this is how it will work. When you complete a level you go to a place called "garage nexus" where you can upgrade your car, here you can buy new weapons and upgrade existing weapons, at the same time you can shorten the cooldown time of your existing weapons by overloading them, when you do this, different gameplays are created with your weapons working at the same time. For example, if you throw a bomb after a weapon that spills oil on the ground, the bomb will burn the oil. I will continue to share as I develop the systems, stay tuned and don't forget to add to our wishlist and come to our discord server.
