Embark on a first-person journey through an atmospheric occult world as you unravel the consequences of your darkwork. Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic challenges you to descend into a realm where the lord of daemons has escaped, testing your resolve in this unique RPG experience.

About this game

Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic is an atmospheric occult RPG set in the 19th century. Survive a descent into a bizarre daemon world, driven forward by the avarice of a madman, and a dream of ultimate occult power.

In this place, foes become allies, and allies become foes...

The daemon summoner Aleister has attempted to bind a powerful lord of daemons, Ashmodai. seeing Aleister's dark heart, Ashmodai broke its ritual binds and returned to its surreal realm.

The Pact of Solomon has been broken, and now the boundaries between the human and daemon worlds are weak. A pathway lies open to Aleister, through which he can make a lord of daemons his thrall for all time.

To walk this path, Aleister will need to gain allies, and more occult power, perhaps more than that which exists in the entire daemon world...

  • Explore the macabre world of daemons in first-person, soaking in its bizarre atmosphere.

  • Talk to strange and unique NPCs, with cryptic tasks and powerful rewards.

  • Collect alchemic ingredients that can be used as healing salves, or turned into formidable poisons.

  • In the daemon world, you cannot escape sacrifice. Everything has a price.

  • Fight challenging battles with tense, turn-based ritual combat.

  • Cast arcane ARTs and utilise perilous alchemy TECHs to turn the tide of battle.

  • Apply status effects to create weaknesses in your enemies, and exploit them to devastating effect.

  • Negotiate with daemons in a darker spin on the creature collector subgenre.

  • Leverage fear, curiosity, greed, and anger to "convince" daemons that you have their best interests at heart.

  • Every daemon has unique dialogue; learn more about them and their world.

0.3h is now live + upcoming plans

Hi all! Long time no see. I'm continuing to work on YHVH, I've just been very busy recently and most of the changes I've made haven't been to the demo content. This patch is just to incorporate a series of smaller bug fixes I've made, bringing the public demo more in line with the game's overall progress.Bug Fix ListSeveral bugs that occur if the game is restarted within the same session have been fixed.Reviving party members with items no longer causes issues in the party viewer UI.Crystals can no longer be destroyed multiple times if you click on them very quickly.Turn order no longer displays defeated enemies.Multi-hit attacks no longer cause the camera to focus on the wrong object. An issue that caused the game to freeze during battle conversations for a small number of players has been fixed.Fixed an issue preventing some NPCs from appearing, and causing some NPCs to disappear before the player can talk to them.Upcoming PlansThere will be another demo patch relatively soon, fixing the last bugs in the demo that I'm aware of. After this, I intend to mostly leave the demo as-is until closer to release, so that I can focus on the development and testing of the game's content. However, once the game is content complete, there will be another demo patch. This patch will incorporate several QOL improvements that I have developed, but are still in testing and are unstable in various ways, and fix any remaining demo bugs before release.Where have you been?Development has continued this whole time, don't worry. I have momentarily turned my focus away from updating the demo and communications with players to focus on developing new the game's actual content. I have a day job apart from working on the game, so it's hard to both develop new stuff worth posting about, and actually post about it. I am working on ways to take development full time, as well as communicate more consistently even without taking development full time, but some steps in this direction might not man...

    New Demo Patch: 0.3f

0.3f is now live! The focus of this patch is a bit different from my previous plans for it, for a few reasons. The main focus of this patch is onboarding and tutorialisation. Changes include: Damage amounts, enemy stats, the player's starting abilities, and progression have all been tweaked to -introduce game concepts more gradually, and encourage players to experiment with the alchemy system.,Attacks which exploit the alchemy system do more damage, and are indicated with bigger yellow damage numbers, to reward tactical play.,If the player is low on HP, Scox will appear after battle to push the player towards using Alchemy/items from the inventory screen to heal and prepare before battles.,When talking to daemons in battle, the UI now includes a bar that indicates how close a daemon is to joining the player, and dialogue options that have been previously selected by the player are greyed out.,There is now an 'analyse' button, which allows the player to trade 5 SP for a hint about recruiting the enemy from Scox. These changes are all intended to make conversations with daemons feel more purposeful and less random, and therefore less frustrating.,Some sound effects have been changed to be less grating, particularly the healing effect sound.,A lot of bug fixes.

    New Demo Patch: 0.3e8

Hi all, the long awaited bug fix patch for the Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic demo is finally dropping. This patch fixes all of the common bugs I'm aware of, including: Accidentally exiting battles during the transition to daemon negotiation.Doubled SP usage.Incorrect damage values.Bifrons accidentally 'summoning' himself instead of Avnas.Incorrect number of attacks during the 'Beat Flurry' attack.Progressing through the introduction without completing the required actions.I apologise for the long wait between the demo release and this patch. This will not be the final patch to the demo - while I am mainly focused on making the main game content at the moment, there will be another patch focused more on QOL improvements and polish, including controller support and key rebinding. As I'm balancing working on new content with producing those QOL improvements, I don't want to put out a specific ETA for that patch, but stay tuned! Thank you to everyone who has played so far for your patience and support!

    Bug Reporting

As many of you have probably noticed, this demo is a pre-release demo, and it has some bugs. I'm working on fixing as many of these bugs as I'm aware of, but where possible it would be great to have some more information about the conditions leading to these bugs, and how common they are.For this reason, I've created this Google Form where you can report bugs, and attach relevant log files. https://forms.gle/wrUMrigc33g8umPe8Whether you submit anything or not, thank you for playing Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic! I really appreciate the support and engagement with the demo, it means a lot to me as the developer of a relatively small project.

I defeated a bird by talking to it about the Bible in this lo-fi first-person RPG where you're a 19th century daemon summoner

Watching the trailer for Your Holy & Virtuous Heretic during the Frosty Games Fest, my first thought was of Dread Delusion, the indie micro-Morrowind. Then the combat started and I remembered Felvidek, the RPG set in early modern Hungary. But overall, I was reminded of the psychedelic historical movie A Field in England. If it's not clear, these are all top-notch things to bring to mind... Read more.
