September 2026 Progress Update - WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY

Hi everyone! Earlier this year, we shared that we were taking a break from full scale development of WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY. While this was the plan, we ended up working on the game throughout the last couple months. This was mainly due to us attending AkaiCon in June and the PAX Kickoff Showcase in September. We really wanted to get WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY more polished up before these events. Today, we wanted to go over some of these updates! Rodney Rodney is a school bully who is looking to take advantage of Hazel’s protectiveness over Toby to get free snacks. Early in the game, he is a boss who stops Hazel and Toby on their way to school. For the last couple years, this boss encounter has existed, but only used concept art for his attacks. This means none of his attacks were actually animated at all! We have a lot of random things like this throughout Chapter 1 that we didn’t need to finish for personal testing, but were very obvious requirements for the full game. When we began planning for AkaiCon, we realized the most obvious demo we could bring with us would include his boss fight as the final encounter. So after 3 years, Rodney has finally been brought to life in battle! Most of this work was done is a rushed 2 week period. This is not final and we plan to make more attacks for him. We actually have another one programmed and sketched, but it is not ready to be shown yet. UI UpdateWe also had a UI update! One of the most noticeable issues with our game has been UI elements. To put it bluntly, a lot of in-game menus looked incredibly ugly. A little background on how this game is made, we are building the game within Unity using a plug in called ORK Framework. This framework allows us to let the system handle all of the RPG stats while we focus more on actually making the game itself. This plug in is fantastic, but there are some things that work differently here than any of our other projects. The UI needs to be able to communicate with Makinom and ORK in order t...

    Chopbusters 2026 Studio Update

Hi everyone. Today we have some news to share on the development of WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY and our plans through the next year. We will be taking an extended break from the development of WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY. We want to be very clear that the game is NOT cancelled and we fully intend to return to development in 2027. Why?The main reason is that a lot of dev members are unavailable to work due to other life obligations, with the biggest one being that a lot of us are college students. For the last couple years, we have tried to work when we are available, but we have learned that this ends up resulting in us only working for super short bursts as a team. This is not an efficient way for us to work and we decided it would be best for the available team members to work on other projects while the unavailable team members focus on college. We know this is a bummer to hear, but we have plans in place for when we return to the game. Our goal upon development continuing is for the game to be worked on as smoothly as possible with no more long stretches of no progress. In the long run, this new plan opens up dev time for projects that otherwise wouldn’t be able to be created otherwise. We understand that this is disappointing news and we apologize to everyone who has been waiting for the next update on WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY. Development will resume in 2027 and we already have a plan in place to ensure the game moves forward the best it can. You mentioned other projects? Yes! While not every member of Chopbusters will be working on these, we are moving forward with new projects aimed to release before development of WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY continues. We have been working on some of these projects over the last couple months and development has been going super well! I am happy to share that the first of these projects will be revealed this week! Keep an eye on our socials for the exact timing of this reveal! We are very excited to share our new projects with everyone!Thank you eve...

August 2025 Progress Update - WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY

Hi everyone! Today, we would like to share the latest updates on the development of WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY!Chapter 2 is (Almost) Beatable! It took a while longer than expected, but we finally have Chapter 2 in a place that it can be beaten from start to finish, minus a final cutscene we are still in the process of writing. While gameplay is mostly finished, the art team is still catching up to this chapter, so a lot of areas are still using sketches created by a non artist (me). Sorry to not share any new screenshots of Chapter 2 today. However...Trailer 2 Coming Soon?Probably! I don't want to give a hard timeline to expect this trailer since it is depending on how quickly the art team can work, but I am hoping to get Trailer 2 out by the end of 2025. A good thing about having our first trailer be part of Paperverse 2024 meant that we could find reaction videos that included people watching our trailer. Listening to what people had to say both motivated us and also told us what things we should communicate in the next trailer. We have a plan in place, we just need to polish up content in the game to be trailer ready.Chapter 3 DevelopmentAs of writing, Chapter 3 has not gone into full production yet, but we are hoping to within a week or two. We are still ironing out the plan to ensure the development goes smoothly. Earlier this year, our team decided we wanted to make a major change to Chapter 3 that would require a bit of retooling of certain story elements. While this might sound like it could cause some major changes to the final game, it leaves most of the core of Chapter 3 in tact to the original plan. Alongside that, these changes cause very few changes to the story outside of Chapter 3. The handful of changes that are coming from this are extremely small. I am personally very excited about the direction Chapter 3 is heading. It is very different from Chapters 1 and 2.Chapter 4 and BeyondDuring this recent meeting about Chapter 3, our team also discussed the rest...

January 2025 Progress Update - WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY

Hi everyone! Today, we would like to share the latest updates on the development of WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY! It has been a while since we last did one of these, so we have a little bit of recapping to do! Our First Trailer Debut! Back in June 2024, our team shared our first trailer for WORLD ENDS WEDNESDAY in Paperverse 2024! Take a look if you haven't seen it yet! Nashville Game Dev Demo Day 2024 We showcased a build of our game for the first time to the public late last year! We got such an overwhelming amount of love from this demo, and gave our team a giant motivation boost. We were so happy to see people love what we have been making, and hope to meet their expectations with the final game! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44571352/7140a4e4a1c7834bab36d231ebc8d60422bbf318.jpg Chapter 1 Is Beatable Around the same time as Paperverse 2024, we reached a point with Chapter 1 where it was content complete in terms of the main story. We still have plans to implement side quests and a handful of other things, but the main story is fully playable and beatable. Chapter 2's Development We mentioned in the last update that Chapter 2 moved into full development in April 2024. However, in June 2024, our team decided to put development on pause for personal reasons. While development continued through the rest of the year, it was very slow and only as we were available. Our original intention was to have Chapter 2 in a similar spot as Chapter 1 by the end of the year, but we unfortunately needed to shift our plans. By the end of 2024, the content for Chapter 2 is roughly 20% done. Starting in 2025, our team is fully back working at the faster pace again. We have been working on the main dungeon of Chapter 2 over the last week as of writing, and it's coming together really well! I am really excited to share it when it is ready! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44571352/d4b4a251e62f55e7738c8b8f5f65b592781ee871.png Party Member 3 - Liz In Chapter 2, we are introducing the third party member, Liz! She is a me...
