F.O.O.D.S. Devlog 0: Exploring the Chaotic World of Space Cooking
Hi everyone! This is Guedes, game designer and level designer at Luski Game Studio. In our first devlog, we'll dive into the world of F.O.O.D.S., our cooperative cooking and puzzle game for up to four players. What is F.O.O.D.S.? F.O.O.D.S. is a game where players become space explorers who accidentally reactivate an ancient intergalactic fast food network called F.O.O.D.S. – Fairway Orbital Order & Delivery Services. The goal is to restore the glory of this network, which has been inactive for many years, by reviving franchises scattered across different planets and galaxies. Players must work together to prepare and deliver wacky alien dishes within a time limit. The game loop is divided into five main parts: 1. Orders: Preparation instructions and ingredient list. 2. Ingredients: Raw materials for the dishes, which can be common or alien. 3. Preparations: Different types of cuts and cooking methods needed for the ingredients. 4. Delivery Location: Where players assemble and send the dish. 5. Puzzles: Challenges related to deciphering and preparing the dishes. Challenges and Development Ingredients are found in machines scattered around the ship, and each may require specific preparations like cuts and cooking methods. We’re planning to add various new mechanics, such as unique tools and cooking methods. At the end of the order, players can press the send button simultaneously to gain a time bonus. However, if time runs out, the order will be delivered as is, whether it’s ready or not. Puzzles are a crucial part of the game, hiding essential information that players need to solve to complete the dishes. Each puzzle offers a unique challenge, such as translating alien symbols or interpreting culinary riddles. Upcoming Devlogs The development of F.O.O.D.S. began in the first half of 2022 and has undergone many changes since then. In upcoming devlogs, we’ll discuss the major design challenges we faced and how we solved them. The next video will cover a major change t...Read full article on Community Announcements (Luski Game Studio)
