Venture into the untamed wilderness as you build your trophy collection in Way of the Hunter 2. Developed by Nine Rocks Games, this early access experience offers lifelike animal behavior and dynamic ecosystems across vast landscapes.
About this game
Way of the Hunter 2 delivers a deeper, more dynamic hunting experience built around living ecosystems, advanced animal behavior, and three distinct hunting regions. Track game across a vast North American wilderness, face dangerous wildlife in an African hunting ground, and explore a Rocky Mountain region centered around the Hearth & Hunt Headquarters lodge — an expandable hunting hub with additional rooms, display space, and trophy mounts for showcasing trophies from current and future hunting grounds.
Animals behave and react naturally to their surroundings, rewarding players who carefully study tracks, movement patterns, and habitat conditions before taking a shot. Players can also venture out freely to explore the wilderness, enjoy spontaneous hunts, and experience the beauty of nature alongside their dog companion. Expanding on the foundation of the original game, the sequel sharpens realism, accessibility, and player freedom while preserving the deliberate pacing and authenticity that define the series.
Experience the thrill of the hunt across diverse wilderness regions in North America and Africa. Track and display big game like Moose, Elk, Bears, Bison, and a wide range of smaller animals and birds. In Africa, face some of the world’s most dangerous wildlife, including massive hippos, thunderous buffalo, prowling lions, and stealthy Nile crocodiles.
Way of the Hunter 2's goal is to become the most authentic and advanced virtual hunting experience. Building upon our previous experience, invaluable player feedback, and countless iterations this game will start as the foundation for many updates, expansions and a true long-term support.
As an adaptable hunter building your reputation, you’ll take on unique challenges across three breathtaking hunting regions after being recruited by Hearth & Hunt to help local residents, work alongside your new Hearth & Hunt colleagues, and preserve regional ecosystems. In New Laurentia, investigate the unusual behavior of the local moose population with the help of a skilled dog trainer and a former warden.
In Kilimaya Reserve, support a renowned safari guide, train with an eccentric archery expert, and track down a legendary retired huntress while helping maintain the balance of the ecosystem. Meanwhile, deep in the Rocky Mountains, a colorful elderly Irish carpenter is more than happy to turn your hard-earned cash into lodge expansions with extra rooms and trophy displays—usually while distracting you with stories about mushrooms and local folklore.
Features:
Hunting Dog: A loyal companion that detects animal signs, follows blood trails, and tracks wounded game. With regular exercise and training, it grows more skilled over time.
Shot review: Our improved bullet camera lets you break down every shot with precision. Analyze trajectory, speed, angle, placement, and more — learn how to make the perfect shot, every time.
High-Tech Equipment: Advanced gear sharpens your instincts, delivering a more immersive hunting experience with thermal night vision and enhanced reserve monitoring to manage habitats.
Hearth & Hunt Headquarters: A smaller Rocky Mountain hub map where you can unwind or explore the surrounding wilderness. Expand the Lodge as your hunting adventures continue, then fill it with your favorite trophies from across all regions.

Patch fixes & preparations on Both Branches
On the Experimental Branch we've just released a patch for update 0.5.0, that focuses on stabilizing the new Ammo Change system based on your feedback, with fixes to weapon/ammo compatibility issues, ammo not carrying over correctly from previous saves, or adding clearer visual cues in the inventory and radial menu so it's easier to see what ammo matches what weapon at a glance. Alongside that, we've addressed a number of animal, gear and environment bugs. On the Default branch, we launched a small patch for version 0.4.1. We've made further technical preparations ahead of Ammo Change eventually moving to the Default Branch, as well as replacing several placeholder artworks. For the full breakdown, please check the patch notes below. Heads-up: Please don't bring save files from Experimental back to the default branch, it could cause issues. We recommend keeping your saved files backed up. Ammo Change Comes to the Experimental Branch
The Ammo Change system is coming early to the Experimental Branch with Update 0.5, giving you more control over how you approach every shot. Different ammunition types offer different balances of penetration and cavity size, allowing you to adapt to the animal, the situation, and the shot you need to make. Whether you want to cover a wider range of species or fine-tune your setup for more precise shot placement, choosing the right ammo can make all the difference. This is an early look at the system, and we want to hear what you think. Try Ammo Change on the Experimental Branch and leave us your feedback! Keep in mind that unlocking different calibers and ammunition types takes time. To make the most of your testing period, don't forget to import your save from the Default Branch to the Experimental Branch. This will give you access to your existing progress and allow you to spend more time testing the Ammo Change system. Heads-up: Please don't bring save files from Experimental back to the default branch, it could cause issues. We recommend keeping your saved files backed up. If you'd like to join the Experimental branch with the ammo change feature, head over here for more info on how to access the Experimental branch: https://ninerocksgames.com/posts/multiplayer-experimental-branch For more details about update 0.5, please check the patch notes below.
