  A Comic Love Story: LKY, Summer Case Files, and a Little Girl

  LKY loved comics. Back in the 90s, in his hometown, there were roadside book stalls—simple setups tucked into alleyways: two or three shelves, five or six tiny stools. Novels cost 3.5 cents per volume, while comics were just 1.5 cents. You couldn’t borrow them; you could only read on-site. With limited stools but plenty of readers, LKY often squatted against a wall, absorbed in reading for entire afternoons.Back then, LKY’s favorite manga artists were Akira Toriyama, Masami Kurumada, Rumiko Takahashi, and Tsukasa Hojo. If he had to pick just one, it would be Rumiko Takahashi. Not because of Ranma ½ or Urusei Yatsura, but because of Koisuru Kisetsu—also known as Maison Ikkoku. At the time, Inuyasha hadn’t even been released yet. Even after Inuyasha became a phenomenon later on, Koisuru Kisetsu remained LKY’s all-time favorite manga.He remembered he’d been chasing after Peacock King by Shungicu Uejima, but it was so popular that every time he went to the stall, someone else had already grabbed it. Since Ranma ½ was great, LKY picked up Koisuru Kisetsu from a pile of shoujo manga—and fell head over heels.Well, there was a little side story to that “falling head over heels,” but rest assured, it was absolutely because Koisuru Kisetsu was so good, not because she was so pretty.It was a summer evening. LKY, back then just a third- or fourth-grader, was reading Koisuru Kisetsu. He couldn’t remember which volume anymore—only that the story was getting really good. His backpack was cushioning his bottom as he leaned against the wall, completely absorbed. After a while, he caught a whiff of peaches. A little girl with a ponytail had squatted down beside him, intently reading the same manga in his hands—Koisuru Kisetsu. LKY froze. The page he’d been about to turn stopped mid-flip.   "Gratitude in Heart, Yet Ashamed to Accept It" - Delay Announcement

  Opening Ramble: For LKY, anxiety has become the norm. Every time LKY needs to announce a delay, sleepless nights follow. Even if LKY manages to fall asleep at two or three in the morning, waking up at 5:30 AM is inevitable. Feeling extremely tired but unable to get back to sleep. Each delay announcement requires LKY to build up psychological strength for a long time, from initially one day to now three or four days. The "Summer Case Files" being delayed by almost a year has been torturous for those who care about it and equally so for LKY. It torments LKY's spirit and body, as well as LKY's wallet. An extra year has added a significant burden, nearly becoming the last straw that breaks the camel's back. But having come this far, ending up in such a situation, just like LKY described "Summer Case Files" during crowdfunding, it's something LKY caused and must bear alone. LKY has some minor strengths but also significant flaws. This flaw led LKY from favorable circumstances into adversity, even dire straits. Overestimating one's capabilities while underestimating the complexity of each work process. Constantly making plans that are unachievable, feeling anxious and distressed as deadlines loom, paying the price over and over again, turning a good hand into a mess. From owning a car, a house, savings, a wife, and children, LKY has become someone who only orders cheap takeout meals, not even planning to return home for the New Year. "Summer Case Files" represents a new beginning for LKY, a form of atonement. LKY has poured years of debt and guilt into this game. But in truth, it's also extremely selfish, because LKY believes that "the purpose of an apology is to make oneself feel better. It does nothing to mend the harm caused."   Summer Fantasy officially launches on January 15, 2025.

  Dear Supporters, I am reaching out to you with a heavy heart and a sincere plea for understanding. We had initially planned to launch "Summer Incident Records" on January 3, 2025. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, we must now postpone the release until January 15th of this month. I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As the primary person responsible for all aspects of "Summer Incident Records" apart from programming, I have been unable to focus on promotional activities until now because of the ongoing development work. Seeing the low number of wish list entries on our Steam page has been disheartening. The original plan was to provide an early release as a token of appreciation to those who have supported me throughout the development process. Yet, after many sleepless nights considering the upcoming release, I have decided to make another announcement in hopes of gaining your understanding and support once more. Over the past ten days, we've initiated some promotional efforts which have shown promising results. This success has reignited my hope that there is still much more we can achieve through further marketing. Due to personal limitations in time and resources, these efforts have been limited. However, even small steps have proven effective, and I would like to ask for your permission to dedicate the next two weeks to intensifying our promotional campaign. A sufficient number of wish list entries on Steam are crucial for the successful launch of our game. Although two weeks is a short period, it represents one last effort to ensure we do not leave any stone unturned.
