Explore interconnected worlds in any order as you wield a bow that transforms into dual blades. Absorb the abilities of powerful bosses to grow stronger in this unique 2D action-adventure from Skyque.

About this game

Blooming is a 2D action platformer with a retro pixel art aesthetic, where chaos does not come from evil… but from your own god.

You play as Rose, a student of the Bastion School of Sorcery, now turned into a battlefield. An army of monsters has invaded the academy by order of the Celestial Creator himself, and only you can uncover why.

Explore the different sections of the school, each ruled by an elemental spirit. Defeat their guardians in any order you choose, claim their powers, and prepare to challenge the being who created everything.

Features:

  • Side-scrolling action and platforming with precise controls and fast-paced combat.

  • Classic-inspired combat: wield a bow that can transform into dual blades, allowing you to fight both at long and close range.

  • Elemental arrow system: each defeated boss unlocks a new arrow with unique abilities, switchable at any time.

  • Non-linear exploration: tackle areas and bosses in any order… though choosing the right element may give you the edge.

  • Optional bosses that enhance elemental arrows, rewarding exploration and mastery of combat.

  • Resource management in battle: defeat enemies to collect essence, used both for healing and ammunition.

  • High-risk decision making: hiding will not save you. To survive, you must fight.

Can you bloom in a world that was never meant to exist?

Blooming new face for Next Fest

Blooming has been on Steam and available to try for quite a while now. Since my last update here I have made a lot of changes on the game and a lot of progress have been made. As you can see in the video at the beginning, Blooming now looks and feel better. Right now the tutorial, water, fire and earth zona are done; leaving just the air zone missing from now. The game is almost finished (but still a few months of development away) and I've also recently started working with Aleix Ramon (you can see his web page here) to add new music in the game. You can hear the new tracks and sfx (those made by me) on the video preview. All of these changes already add quality to Blooming and enhanced the overall experience, now this looks like a real game and not a demo a student project. The main reason for me to write this post is to let you know that Blooming is taking part on October 2024 Next Fest. I've made a new demo that includes a little try of every major zone and the elemental arrows. This demo is different from the final game but the content is similar. After the next Fest the demo will be always active, so you can try it later or even if you ar reading this on 2035 and beyond.

    Water demo added

Joining the tutorial; now you can play the water zone's demo. This area is completly independent from the game, but you can try the mechanics and fight enemies that will be part of the final game. This demo will be available by limited time, in the future it will be replaced by others zones. The fire zone will be the next one {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44454991/d9f443126e7a97d03be1c53879dbc141b37b3fbf.png

Adding Feel and juice to Blooming

I'm still working and developing Blooming. recently I've seen some assets on Unity's asset store that can help me make my game feel and look better, so I decided to add them. The first one Retro Bit FX - Pixel Particles package (by Unluck Software), contains 2D particles that I modify a bit to fit them into the project. Those particles were added to the enemies, bosses and the player. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44454991/0ae43bc5e2716609973d8e12892bbb5a1a32982b.png{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44454991/d461fa08d6b738d1b512a686e879a584dd5028dc.png On the other hand, Feel package (created by More Mountains), help me adding more and better feedback and juice. Thanks to this package, I'm able to add differents effects on cameras, post processing time scale, etc. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44454991/01a3aa621c7dbf0ca029a4957fd77fe9bc2d6779.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44454991/1bb6538fe2474c8175b024b26ab33800ee50f9e7.png With those changes, Blooming feels like a more "complete", responsive and satisfying experience. I'm still working on the fire zone, is almost complete, just need to finish bosses and music. Also, in a few days (or weeks) I want to publish a new trailer; this trailer will contatin all the progress made so far, so it will show a version of the game more near to the final product. Thanks for reading so far, I will continue working and making uploads when is neede, until then, goodbye!

You can play Blooming's demo right now!

Th demo is availabe right now. You can play the tutorial and introductory zone from the final game. I configured steam cloud to store data on cloud and have that option when the final game release. You will be able to use your save file from the demo in the game and continue playing from that point. I also configure some other Steam tools (such as achivements), so, from now on while developing the rest of the game I will be integrating those tools into the game and they will be ready for launch. But..., How much of the game is done? While writing this, both the tutorial and water zone are completely done; the fre zone is almost done (I need to do some sprites for tiles and background, the bosses and music). Other than that, wind and earth zone are missing. So, I want you to be a little bit patient for my to spend the right amount of time on the development.
