    Controller Support Update

Hello dear shopkeepers! It has been a few months since the last update for Faire Trade. We have been diligently chipping away at adding controller support throughout the game which took most of this time. In addition, we have had a summer holiday and other matters of life requiring their faire share of care and attention.Controller SupportThe big ticket item for this update is controller support. Faire Trade should now be entirely playable from start to exit with the vast majority of popular gamepad controllers. Below you can see a small controller showcase you show you how this works.Several features had to be refactored to support both mouse and controller ranging from movement, camera and interactions to furnishing, building, and menus. Everything required revisions to support controller and button prompts so that you know what you can press.Scroll grid performance improvementsScroll grids used in the display, crafting, and character customization menus now use a pooled scroll grid. While adding controller support for these menus, it became clear that the product grid was frustratingly slow to work with.Previously, each grid item in the scroll grid created an interface element. Now, only the visible items in the grid populate an interface element and elements that scroll out of view are reused which is much more performant.Below you can see a demonstration of how that works behind the scenes. On the left you see the new scroll grid in-game. On the right you see that a grid item is selected and gets repositioned and reused as the grid scrolls. It made sense to upgrade to this pooled grid system as part of the controller support update because grid navigation and game feel was much more noticeable when playing with a controller than using a mouse. It was also much easier to implement now than retroactively.9 New Colors for 10 Displays and 7 New Floor ColorsBelow you can see 10 displays from left to right (including a wall mounted display in the back). This update add...

Minor Update: Area Restock and Bug Fixes

Hi dear shopkeepers,Today's patch is relatively small but one that could not be delayed by much longer. The main reason is that this patch contains several important fixes to frequently occurring issues. One issue that needed dire fixing is duplicate patrons appearing in the tavern. The other issue is that maxing out the product skill can crash the game.On the bright side, this update also includes preliminary work to get controller support implemented. One part of that has been improving the area restocking feature which is fairly important for controller players.Unfortunately, you may have to reconfigure your control remapping if that is something that you have customized.Area RestockingThe area restock feature was a little obscure and its visual feedback has been improved in the anticipation of controller supportFuture developmentController support is making good progress and a lot of tabbed and detail styled menus are being reworked. In addition, controller gameplay is also coming along with single display and multiple display restocking having reached a functional state. Next milestones are going to be focusing on manipulating furniture and editing the shop. After that there are still several menus that need a pass to hopefully soon reach a complete gameplay loop exclusively using a controller. Patch 15825TECHFixed an issue where the shop would not close correctly once the last customer & trader has left.Fixed an issue that would cause multiple patrons to spawn in the tavern.Input remapping has been reset for all input devices due to incompatible changes as a result of ongoing controller support development.UIFixed a missing ï character which was not represented in the font asset.Restructured control mapping actions and categories. You will probably need to restore defaults by going Controls > Restore Defaults.Crafting recipes accepting product input by tag, such as fruit, would incorrectly allow maximum crafting amount to be set based on tag input only.End of d...

Minor Update: Fixes, Improvements, Buffs, and more...

Hello shopkeepers, Since the Cooking Update and Baking with Fruit Update we have received a lot of super useful feedback and reports from the community on Discord. The interaction there has honestly been wonderful. This resulted in a really great push in working out a plethora of minor issues and adding improvement. Over the last three weeks since the last patch a lot has been fixed and improved which is what we would like to push from the unstable to the default branch for all to enjoy.Let's take a look at the highlights.Sort & Filter ImprovementsThe menus that offer sort & filter dropdowns should now save their settings so that reopening them will reapply the same settings. This is especially useful with the Counter and Trader menus that see daily use. The dropdown buttons are also highlighted to remind you that a sort or filter dropdown is active so that you don't mistake the menu for being empty.Tavern Fixes and ImprovementsThe patrons in the tavern are delighted with all the deliciousness that has been served thus far. The tavern requests has seen very active use and this resulted in a number of fixes and improvements in that area.Crafting Menu Room EffectCrafting recipes will now indicate if a room effect is active. This was already the case for Greenhouse planters so it made a lot of sense to extend this information to other room effects.Shop SignsAt maximum crafting skill you will be rewarded with a shop sign decoration befitting of your specialty. Shop signs are unique so you are only able to place one. Let the world know that you are a master of your craft.Variation FoldsThere are a huge amount of color variations available for the hundreds of furniture and structure options. You can now indicate that a menu option has color variations to choose from by the little yellow indicator in the corner of a menu item.Cashier BuffsCashiers with 5 stars should now work faster as they level up. This has been buffed from 2 seconds to 1.56 seconds per customer at max l...

    Baking with Fruit

Hello dear shopkeepers!Today we have a smaller update to share with you. It's now possible to cook certain recipes with products tagged as Fruit. You can obtain 7 new floor colors and 10 new display colors for 4 different displays. And finally, there are a lot of fixes and improvements to reported issues. Let's dig in!Baking with FruitLast Cooking Update added 68 new products and recipes to Faire Trade. As with every update, we keep a close eye on incoming errors and feedback of things that are easily fixed to give you a smooth and enjoyable shopkeeping experience. One error that stood out was related to making Tart, Fruit Cake and Bundt Cake. These recipes actually introduced a new crafting mechanic which works in the game systems but required more UI and UX development to be properly supported. This new crafting mechanic can accept products with a tag as input instead of a specific product. Take Fruit Cake for example, one of the ingredients can be any product tagged as Fruit. While that sounds fairly simple, this had some interesting UI/UX considerations that needed to be fleshed out. This update now offers the ability to choose which products are used to craft something and gives you the ability to browse which ingredients are used for each input. This also improves on a previous issue where mixed quality inputs was not that easy to browse.Supporting this feature took another 2 weeks of development but we are glad that crafting recipes can now support products by tag. This opens up exciting new possibilities for the future.10 New Colors for 4 Displays7 New Floor ColorsFuture developmentOne much requested feature is controller support and we have been going through the code and systems to do all the preliminary work necessary to get baseline controller support up and running. There is a lot of ground to cover and some upcoming changes may not seem that exciting but will make sense in the context of playing with a controller. With that I'll leave you with the patch no...

StoveThe Stove is a fond fan favorite from Winkeltje. It looks similar, but the model and materials still required quite some work to convert it from the old handpainted style to the new material style that allows for much richer colors and reflections. You can also see several smoke and fire particle effects which are easier to include and use a more performant method than was possible before.Wine CaskBring your vineyard fantasy to life by growing grapes and vinifying wine.
