About the Game

Descend into the enigmatic and liminal worlds of Backrooms Interception, discover the terrifying fates of engineers and scientists that once worked in these worlds. As you uncover more about your purpose there, you will be met with characters and choices that influence the outcome of your story.

This game doesn’t force you to follow a narrative; your choices, from dialogue to who you choose to kill, affect the outcome of your journey.

EXPLORATION

Backrooms Interception has a unique take on the backrooms concept, with a lot of fan favorite levels as well as our original ones that flow with the game's dark story and gameplay.

It's up to you to find any means necessary to survive…

  • Game rewards salvaging for resources

  • Levels have random events that make the game less linear

  • Some environments may change the time and look as you progress

ITEMS AND INVENTORY

This world isn't like ours; you will need to salvage equipment and tools that are left behind, your resources are extremely limited and you have to be strategic with your every move.

  • You need to Eat and Drink or else you risk fatigue and exhaustion

  • Your backpack can only carry so much, your luggage space is limited

  • Your weapons aren’t durable; you will need to repair them

  • Your magazines won’t load themselves, you do it manually

Will you manage to survive?

COMBAT

Your survival is at stake every second you spend inside backrooms, safe spaces are as rare as they can be, and you will need to rely on your skills in combat to survive even the smallest of threats as you navigate its levels. At your disposal, you will have a lot of choices… but so do they…

  • Cold Weapons such as Swords and Axes

  • Firearms that require bullets that are few and far between

  • Enigmatic and reality bending entities that don’t respect the rules of reality

  • Your fellow humans won’t hesitate to gun you down if you point your gun at them, they are as tense as you are at times

  • Don’t be discouraged by death, game only punishes not adapting…

Be aware and always keep your weapon ready...

AFFLICTIONS

Characters that you play are still human, they also suffer from injuries and illnesses. The Environments and Entities you face will test your character's resilience to its limits…

  • Status effects system that makes that expensive vest seem worth it when you get hit

  • Entities may poison you, infect you, make you hallucinate or even give you radiation poisoning there’s no limit in this world.

  • Keep your Hunger, Thirst, and Sanity intact or you may start Wrenching (turning into one of them….)

Would you risk it if your life was on the line?

    Beta Stable Build v0.3

New StuffOptions Menu Graphics Overhaul We fixed a lot of the confusing things about the options menu, along with including a fix form the discussions tab.—Higher Resolutions: Before the maximum resolution was 1920x1080, simply due to it being the resolution that I and my co-developer developed on for the game being tested and optimized for it, I simply forgot to make code that will check if your monitor supports higher resolutions than that. And now it does! Keep in mind that you will have to manually increase the amount of VRAM that the game can use to compensate for higher resolutions.— Texture Streaming Settings: We added options for changing the amount of VRAM the game can use from your PC. Right now the default setting is 6GB but in actuality it restricts the program to 4096 MB, aka 4GB with 2GB of system overhead, but the game doesn't draw much VRAM, with 1080p needing a minimum of 1.7 GB at 1080p (Required Streaming Pool) and the full Streaming Pool being around ~3.3 GB.—Aspect Ratio Settings:  Added extra viewing modes that were previously on a hidden * key bind and were only known to developers.—General Cleanup: The game now tells you what to do if you experience motion sickness or have crash issues due to insufficient VRAM-to-resolution ratio, with the game including a guide for it.Game Mechanics Some new features and quality of life improvements.—Ruined Weapon indicator: Weapons damaged beyond use now, apart from being red in inventory and quick-slot, include an X symbol so new players don’t get confused about why they can't pull their weapon out.—Crafting Table Item Sections: The biggest problem we had with the crafting system is players not engaging with it early in the game, simply due to it looking like a complete clusterf*ck, aka like some inventory as opposed to a sectioned thing where you know where to search for weapons, ammo, materials, etc. Now we've made it so it's actually usable for new players.—Healing Items in slots: Now this allows you to...

    Alpha Stable Build v0.2.6

Alpha Stable Build v0.2.6We are rolling out a quick patch to fix some issues from the last version, v0.2.5. This is not as big of a leap as the last update, but it will be a stable version until the planned version v0.3 that will add new levels to the main game as well as upgrade the general game systems.New StuffGameplay Tab In Options Menu We added a new tab that is first to open by default in the options screen now, for now it only contains these two settings but we plan to add much more important settings in the future—Fisheye effect switch: By default, game has a fish lens filter to give off a bodycam style screen distortion. We added a feature to disable it for players for whom it may cause motion sickness or discomfort to.—Always Show Tips: It will always show gameplay tips through the game if it’s turned on; by default, it's off, and all tutorials only play once.Tweaks to AI and Entities The entity known as the “The Bright Man” or glowing skeleton now has his HP nerfed down so he can be brute forced with melee weapons. The area of his radiation particles is now lower and won’t give you a status effect unless you are close.Glowing Red entity has been removed from the poolrooms and no longer appears in the game.FixesDigital Watch being in the wrong slot at the start of the gameCamera having unpredictable cuts and movements in the character selection level when motion startsAdded a note on how to craft pouches to the crafting tableFixed Autosave issues at the start of the game along with “Darkening” cinematic bug at the hole that leads to poolrooms at the end of Outdoors overgrown forest level.M24 Sights being offset fixedMachete wrong SFX when it breaksOxygen Tank broken spawn and sizeHopefully the final fix to the save wipe bug; now the game loads saves only after it confirms that the old save is made fully.Hook Man Entity is now spawned much later but will probably be nerfed in the futureGlowing skeleton wrong particle on getting hit with AR7Tip for sliding ...

    Alpha Stable Build v0.2.5

Alpha Stable Build v0.2.5This is the new update to the game that addresses many of the bugs we encountered during the cold launch of our demo. We are thankful for everyone who played the first build of the demo (v0.2) and for everyone who contributed to the Steam Discussions page of the project.Gameplay ChangesThe Navigation & Map Problem The navigation issue that players had is now solved with a completely new system: players now enter the Backrooms with a Digital Navigation Watch that has several helpful features. Here's an overview of the watch's functions:—Navigation: You can now click known locations on the map to navigate to them. The watch features an arrow that points toward your destination (while the watch is in your hand). This helps a lot, since all locations provided by NPCs or other sources are now automatically added to your map.—Objectives Tab: A small vague helper to help you understand your task—Threat Detection: The watch can give you a low accuracy threat score for your current location, based on the number of perceived entities.Tweaks to AI and Entities Combat is now more forgiving entities move slightly slower and are less tanky, especially against melee weapons. Status effects like Radiation now have a much smaller range and no longer affect such a large area. The instakill Red entity has been removed from a section at the start of Poolrooms.Economy We are trying to incentivize players to craft more, and to also trade with NPCs. With gameplay being more forgiving, players will be able to experiment and craft more freely.Quality of LifeNew Main Menu The menu now better fits the game’s theme, featuring a scene directly from the game.FixesFixed various general game bugs, including double Trader issuesFixed save / non-runtime issues where blockades or objects failed to despawnFixed multiple entities behaving unfairly for new playersFixed Outdoors map clipping outside of boundsFixed invisible HUD when deadFixed oxygen tank + pliers drop glitchFixed...
