The end of UGC Support
Lords! Dark times have fallen upon our realm. With heavy hearts, we must inform you that custom stories are no longer available. This unfortunate change comes as a result of Unity discontinuing support for their User Generated Content (UGC) service, which was used to bring your amazing stories to life in our beloved game. We will dearly miss your creativity… FAQ Is the Dark Lord in danger?! Fear not — the Dark Lord and his council are safe. The main campaign remains fully playable. This change only affects custom stories content. What will happen to my stories? As of May 11, 2025, all user-generated stories were permanently deleted due to Unity’s legal and privacy obligations. What if I purchased DLCs? You can request a refund in accordance with Steam’s general refund policy. How are you guys doing? Honestly… we’re heartbroken. Hey Dark Lords! What a joy it was to dive into your stories! Your talent and sharp wit are truly beyond comparison, which made it almost impossible to choose winners without going mad! Or maybe we did after all? Nevertheless, here are the winners: 1st place and $1000 – Purrfect Reincarnation by Gorgonage “Once, four heroes defeated the Dark Lord. Only one loyal servant remained, determined to revive his master… but something went terribly wrong when a cat entered the summoning circle.” We simply couldn't resist rewarding this captivating story that spans a massive 7 chapters, featuring interesting characters and great use of the resource system. Be careful, you can actually lose if you're not attentive enough. 2nd place and $500 – The Calamity Egg by Azz-Rushman “During your successful campaign surrendering humans and the species fighting on their side, news of an ultimate weapon quickly arise all around the continent. The legend says that the enormous creature born from the Calamity Egg would harbor a power capable of dominating the entire world, and that it would only obey the orders of the first figure it sees upon birth.” This dramatic story intrigued us with its premise and surprised us with its moral choices. The ending you get depends entirely on you! 3rd place and $250 – Bum’sekai by tarax “An isekai story with you as the average Bum” It might sound almost like a joke, but this story, filled with interesting world-building and brutal lore elements, will keep you hooked. It's up to you to decide what happens with the world you find yourself in. While we congratulate our winners, the celebration isn't over! The Story Contest Returns!
Hey Dark Lords – old-timers and newcomers! The long-awaited Dark Lord release took place yesterday, and we’re here now to announce a community contest! The story writing competition is an ancient tradition of this community, and it's time to bring it back! To be a successful Dark Lord, one needs to be creative, so show off your best works and etch your name into the history of our game! How to join: Settle into your throne, delve into the depths of your imagination, and bring your ideas to life. Before you begin, ensure you know the competition's rules and guidelines below. Submit your masterpieces via our very cool and handy in-game Community Stories mode editor no later than September 1st. Don’t forget to add to the title of your story (you can change it after the contest ends). Once submitted, take pride in your work, read other creators’ stories, and wait for September 6th, the day that we announce the results! Prizes galore Your story can span any genre—dramatic, comedic, mystical, or even meme-inspired. The authors of the best tales will be rewarded handsomely: 1st Place: $1000 2nd Place: $500 3rd Place: $250 Note: the prizes are distributed via Amazon or Steam gift cards (read the contest’s Terms and Conditions for more details). Competition guidelines Watch our demo guide for creating stories. Entries must have a minimum of 30 cards and 15 steps (if you follow the shortest path), each with a situation description and two choice options.
