Navigate Tax-Force’s hand-drawn world as you hunt tax-evading billionaires, rebuilding society one level at a time. Experience the thrill of an indie action game inspired by 90s comicbooks.
About this game
Hunt down tax-evading billionaires and rebuild society in a 2D action-roguelite platformer inspired by 90's comicbooks. You’ll fight through mutant henchmen with melee focused souls-lite combat, make tough moral choices, rebuild society and upgrade your biomes with a unique card-collecting economy system, and discover a time-looping branching narrative.
Your goal; negotiate repayments from your targets to repay the planet’s Solar Shield debt, preventing planetwide destruction. You have 7 cycles.
Melee Combat
To reach your targets, you’ll need to use your fists and boots to fight through their mutant henchmen, with a focus on tough, close-range combat, in hand-drawn, rogue-lite biomes that remix with every run.
Mutant Powers
When you need extra power, equip special abilities inspired by comicbook mutant powers, including Astral Projection! Metal Man! Optical Blasts!
Economy, Strategy and Morality
Negotiate with targets to affect the economy, narrative and gameplay on each run. Will you reinvest in business to pay off the debt quicker, or fund public services to upgrade the biome and help you on your mission?
Rebuild
As you rebuild society, the gameplay reacts. New bridges, paths and upgrades appear in your biomes as you invest in infrastructure. Price and potency of healing items respond to public or private investment in healthcare. Weapons and criminal activity respond as you increase security spend.
Branching Narrative
Every decision leads to narrative consequences for the planet’s citizens, as their stories are guided by your choices, and the city organically grows and changes around them.
Timeloop
Dying activates your time-travelling mutant power, sending you back to the first cycle, armed with knowledge of your enemies and the consequences of your actions.
Stunning Visuals
Gorgeous, hand-drawn comic book art style inspired by Jim Lee and 90’s X-men comics.

Devblog #04 – Fortuna City Biome
Welcome to another edition of the Tax-Force devblog! With this latest issue, we reveal our brand new, second biome - Fortuna City and some of its unique features.Acid RainDRILLIT’s unregulated mining process has kicked up tons of toxic dust and gas into the Farset’s environment, causing acid rain to fall periodically throughout the domed city of Fortuna. It is toxic enough to burn through your armour, so direct exposure drains your health. The city’s affluent upper layer sees the most rainfall and is patrolled by armoured security guards. The lower slums, while offering protection from the rain, are home to explosive, dangerous mutants. You’ll need to choose your path through the city that best suits your abilities.Upgrade your city You can choose to put those hard-won tax credits to invest in the city’s infrastructure for a safer path through the city.Investments in Public Infrastructure will add features for safer traversal, including Rain Shelters throughout the city, fund Fire Fighter drones and even a public transport bus service that will protect you from the rain while riding.Invest in businessIf you instead decide to reinvest your tax-credits in private companies, you’ll find the D.E.B.T easier to pay off, but will find the city more of a challenge, with changes that include upgraded private security drones, an increase in dangerous hovercars, and hazard materials dumped in the slums.New Enemies Fortuna City is home to several new vicious enemies you'll need to work through while hunting your target. Including Ratz Trap - a cowardly scavenger mutant who drops proximity mines from their swag bag, and Street Mine - an explosive mutant with a mine for a head! You'll need to move fast to avoid the mine's massive range, or use a tactical kick to launch the head at gangs of enemy mutants. Street Mine goes Ka-BOOM!We hope this update was enough to tease your interest in Fortuna City - let us know what you think below, or over on our Discord! Demo 2.0 - live on Next Fest!
We’re super excited to release Tax-Force Demo 2.0 as part of Steam Next Fest!Big Boss - 0TT0The biggest addition to the demo is the inclusion of our first big Tax-Force Boss; 0TT00TT0 was a piece of early Drill-It mining equipment, abandoned and forgotten early on, lying dormant deep below the surface, listening to the silent vibrations running along its sensors. Learning secrets people would rather have left buried. The Target you’re searching for has cut a deal with it for protection, you have to get past 0TT0 to reach negotiations. Keeping with the theme of the game, 0TT0’s environmental hazards will change depending on your economic choices. Our playtesters have found 0TT0 quite the challenge (except for one tester, who beat the machine on the first attempt!). Comment below to let us know if you managed to beat the robot. Maximum Heat Weapon Shop - New Specials and Mods Nzinga Winga brings Maximum Heat to Farset, offering a bunch of Mods and Specials in the form of mutant abilities, with 3 different Specials available to try out in the demo; Astral Projection, Optical Blasts and Quickshiver With the state of Farset 13’s current economy, Maximum Heat is constantly getting robbed by bandits and gangs - investing in Public Security will offer more choice in every visit, or invest in Private Defence contracts to increase the quality of the limited gear. On top of these features, we have a host of upgrades including Big Sound Design overhaulNew TargetsPlay an extra cycle each runWe’ve been working hard to expand, improve and polish the gameplay based on your feedback. Give the demo a shot, and help spread the word throughout Next Fest!Read full article on Community Announcements (Outsider Games)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devblog #03 - Medical Facilities and Healing
{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44507630/7269c2b29cc59fa844397eb185f8a6f9d23f6189.png Welcome to another Tax-Force devblog! This time, we’re going to talk a bit about the medical facilities of Farset-13, what they can do for you and how you can improve them! The State of Farset-13 Medical Facilities At the start of your run, the healthcare in Farset-13 is the preserve of the privileged few. The cost of treatment, if you can even find an open clinic, is high. An unhealthy population means an unhealthy economy… so you should probably do something about it if you want to pay off that debt in time! In Tax-Force, you don’t heal between missions. You have to pay to get patched up or head to your next mission injured. Of course, healing is only one thing you will want to pay for, so you’re going to have to think carefully about the balance of health versus strength. Go-Go Life – The Health Shop Early on in the game, you will gain access to Go-Go Life, your local neighbourhood clinic, run by Doc Croc. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44507630/29e77f376cd4b1744dcefeb03c7cbcc16be47210.png Doc Croc can offer you immediate treatment, as well as a number of handy pick-me-ups to help you during your missions. His stock and prices are directly tied to the current medical situation on Farset-13. With no investment, you’re going to see a range of sub-par products at outrageous prices. If you invest in public healthcare, then you can look forward to falling healthcare costs for you and the citizens of Fortuna. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44507630/3e3270efb136b80f3f3b3e17efac3d509670eab3.png If you work with private healthcare providers, you might not see much of a reduction in costs, but you will certainly see an increase in quality, with rarer, more potent treatment options becoming available at no extra (personal) cost! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44507630/bf89e15e168cb2844ba92a5d23127ed65f254ba4.png Health Items In addition to pre-mission patch-up jobs, Go-Go Life can offer you helpful items to make your job just a little bi...Read full article on Community Announcements (Outsider Games)AnnouncementsOfficial
