Gearbits is coming to the Switch on the 25th

Hello. I've got an update on the upcoming switch port. It's releasing soon. Very soon! The Switch version will be available on the 25th of September. Mark your calendars. The Switch version contains the main game, as well as the Raider expedition expansion. There's also a Switch exclusive Japanese localization. I've also got one new feature for the current Steam version. A progress tracker for the "Mass production miracle" Achievement can now be found in the "statistics" screen in the base exchange. It's a pretty small feature, considering that it'll be only used by the achievement hunter sickos, but it has been a requested feature for a while now. So I figured that I'd finally add it in.

    Patch 10.4.

Added the option for automatic look sensitivity. Improved projectile collision detection. Added the option to change the base appearance. The automatic look sensitivity is something I experimented with for the upcoming switch port. Basically, the aim sensitivity gets lower, when a valid target is near the crosshair. You can set the sensitivity with a slider going from 10% to 100%. With 100% being no change to sensitivity, even when a target is in range. At 50% the sensitivity is halved when a target in range and at 10% the sensitivity is one tenth of the usual value. The button to change the base appearance appears in the base exchange menu, after finishing the final mission.

    Switching Gears

Hello everyone. I haven’t posted any updates in a while. Mostly because, I haven’t had much new Gearbits stuff to show. I’ve moved on to new projects and I’m hoping to share those soon. Even so, I haven’t managed to completely “break free” from Gearbits. I’ve revisited the game and I’ve added some new control options. I also have a big announcement to make. Gearbits is coming to the Nintendo Switch! Gearbits is getting a switch port by Fuze technologies. This has been in the works for a few months already. But now we’re ready to announce it publicly. We’re looking to release the switch version in the first half of 2025. Fuze is aiming to port the game as faithfully as possible, but they will be making small changes, to make it play well with the Switch hardware and form factor. They’ll be posting about what they’ve added to the game on their own social media channels, so go and follow them. https://www.youtube.com/@FUZEArena https://twitter.com/FUZEarena Just to clarify, the Steam version is still my responsibility. So any bugs or errors found in the Steam version are on me. That said, there is some collaboration between the versions. We’ve traded some code and bug fixes between them. The idea of switching weapons with the right analog stick and the code for the auto-aim icon, came from Fuze. Here are the new features added to the Steam version with this update. Controller rumble The game now supports controller rumble. It can be toggled on, or off in the options. Auto-aim icon There is now an optional auto-aim indicator, which appears when an enemy is withing the weapons auto-aim range. This can be toggled in the settings. Control options The game has some additional control options for thruster use and weapon selection. Control schemes are as follows: Default: This is the normal way that the game has worked since the beginning. You toggle between the two thruster modes. Mobility: This mode eliminates the toggle. Pressing RB, or Shift automatically switches to and ...

Gearbits: Raider expedition is now available!

Hello everyone. Gearbits: raider expedition launches today. The raider expedition is a DLC expansion campaign, that adds new story content to Gearbits. The expansion adds ten new story missions, which take place after the main game, with a new cast of characters. The expansion adds six new maps, which are available in the wave battle mode as well. The expansion also adds new playable units. You can get the expansion right now on Steam. https://store.steampowered.com/app/2989880 If you aren’t buying the expansion, there’s still some new stuff for you. There is a new patch that adds features to the base game, owning the DLC is not necessary for these. There’s a new playable unit. The Cygnys-R type. You can find it, by pressing the toggle list button in the unit selection screen. The option to change your livery has been added. If the chosen unit has optional colourings, you can change them by pressing the “livery” button in the weapon selection screen. There’s now a model viewer. This let’s you take a closer look at the robot models. You can find the model viewer in the base exchange menu. Early reviews and feedback for the expansion have been very positive. I hope that you’ll like it as well. I definitely feel like I was able to take the lessons learned while making the base game, and use them to take the expansion to a higher level. Let me know what you though about it after you’ve played it. Also. Today it has been exactly a year since Gearbits launched. Pretty wild to think about that. I wasn’t even sure if anyone would play the game. But how lucky! People did play the game, and here I am, one year later, releasing an expansion. The game isn’t a smash hit. But there’s a dedicated community. Thank you very much to all the players. Gearbits has been slowly gathering players over the last year. Who knows, maybe it will be a smash hit some day? Still, for now, I’m just happy that the few who played it, liked the game.
