About this game

Deja Vu portrays The Backrooms as a manifestation of mental illness. Join forces with a friend and endeavor to escape the confines of both your own mind and the mundane existence that led you here.

The Story

Meet AJ, an average guy stuck in the monotony of a corporate job. Suddenly, he receives devastating news—he's been diagnosed with a mental illness that, if left untreated, could lead to severe hallucinations. What AJ doesn't realize is that these hallucinations are about to become all too real, much sooner than expected.

Unbeknownst to AJ, the horrors he's about to face exist solely within his own mind, ensnaring him in a strangely familiar place called The Loop. AJ's mind perceives the place he's trapped in as akin to a computer glitch. Consequently, he must gather eight memory fragments to liberate himself from his own hallucinations—a journey he can embark on with someone else caught in the same predicament.

Hybrid Game

Deja Vu seamlessly blends singleplayer and multiplayer elements to offer a realistic and plausible approach of the backrooms concept. The singleplayer part features the way you reach "The Loop", while the multiplayer part allows up to four unfortunate souls to work together in order to escape.

The Levels

Deja Vu features two kinds of levels:

  • Procedurally generated levels, which are completely random and different every time.

  • Static levels, which are puzzle-based and focus more on exploration and adventure, offering a never-before-seen approach to the backrooms.

The Entities

AJ must evade a distinct entity in each level he faces. These entities roam the levels, relentlessly hunting him down; if caught, they will ruthlessly end his life. AJ, being no fighter, must rely solely on his legs to survive.

Realistic Feel & Various Mechanics

High quality graphics, immersive sound design, detailed animations, a first-person perspective from a fully rendered character, stamina system and a minimalist user interface collectively offer a lifelike portrayal of the horrors AJ is enduring.

The game includes a variety of items that could assist AJ in his escape, all of which can be stored in an inventory system. Throughout the game, numerous interactable objects enhance the overall dynamism of the experience. Proximity voice chat also plays a significant role in the experience. AJ can communicate with his friend, but caution is necessary— the entities can hear.

Deja Vu : The Backrooms | Autumn Fever

Autumn FeverAutumn Fever is a level inspired by the quiet, liminal feeling of the autumn season. While it deviates from the traditional Backrooms theme, it focuses on atmosphere and exploration. Wander through eerie fall landscapes, drifting leaves, and silent pathways as you uncover the different sections of this strange place. No entities roam here—only the unsettling stillness of autumn. The level features several autumn attractions to explore, including a haunted house, a pumpkin patch lit by moonlight, a sprawling corn maze with winding paths, and a quiet boat ride across still waters. Each area captures a different side of the fall season, blending warm colors, fading light, and the calm, slightly eerie atmosphere of autumn.Hunted HouseA farmhouse stands alone in the dark, its porch light still on. The door is open, but the house feels long abandoned.Pumpkin PatchPumpkins are scattered across a quiet field under the moonlight. No one seems to be around, but the place doesn’t feel empty.Corn MazeTall corn rows form a maze of narrow paths under the night sky. Every turn looks the same as the field closes in around you.Boat RideDrift slowly across dark, still water toward a distant dock. The lake is silent except for the sound of the boat moving through it.Bug FixesFixed various network-related issuesFixed several animation-related issuesOther minor bug fixesPS : I’m sorry for the delay in updates. I had to focus on exams and some personal matters. I did my best to test this version, but some bugs may still exist, especially in multiplayer. Please report any issues in the dedicated discussion thread or on Discord. The next updates will focus on improving previous levels by adding new features and making them more engaging.
