Explore Sap: School Days, an indie simulation where you shape a world of biomes, creatures, and machines through strategic decisions. Dive into the unique experience of being the unseen force that brings life to a grid of endless possibilities.

About this game

Immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Sap, a unique meditative single-player game about nurturing an ever-evolving ecology. Witness the wonder of a bizarre, expanding and collapsing environment that you control with strategic tile placements. Choose from biomes, mechanical elements, and a plethora of organisms to adorn your board, and marvel as surprising interactions unfold.

Experiment and explore layer upon layer of complex mechanics, unfolding new challenges and strategic avenues as you progress. Keep in mind, with each turn, you surrender control over your tiles - so think ahead and plan your layout carefully. Each turn you'll be offered 5 new tiles to select from, and with limited energy to pay for them per turn, you'll have to be strategic. The goal of sap is to explore, more than to win - but let the board fill up and it's game over! Try and balance the ecology to prevent system-wide collapse while seeing how many tiles you can discover!

Designed not to be obtuse, but to foster curiosity, Sap invites you to lose yourself in its unique ecosystem, stimulating your mind while soothing your senses. Venture into this extraordinary game, where strategy meets serenity, and every playthrough reveals something new!

    Pulling the project

It's come to our attention (as of 2025) that Unity has uncovered a massive security issue with all games created in Unity Engine from 2017 and beyond. This includes Sap, so we have requested Steam pull the download(s). Please uninstall the game if you have it installed, and know that even back around 2021 we discontinued all use of Unity in our projects. For more information please see https://unity.com/security/sept-2025-01

    General Update!

{STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44331039/3bf0d86ba55a407e796b94b8ee06d6ee9cf46991.png Hello again. Did everyone think I was gone? Another abandoned project?! Maybe, but not this time. This time let's talk a little about what I'm up to, and the future of Sap (again). Firstly, I am working on fresh content for Sap: School Days. Free or not, I promised new stuff and I will deliver. A slew of new cards and a slightly more performant game within the month. Sooner would be better, but I have a fair bit of "life stuff" going on at the moment. Next up, I've made the decision to put Sap Labs on hold for the moment. It's a big project, with a huge amount of scope. I'm taking the time to carefully document the existing code base and my design docs so that when I come back to it, I know what crazy thoughts I was thinking. I very much want to work on it, but I need some funding to do so, which brings me to my last point. Smallo! This is weird little project I dreamed up recently, which I'm referring to as a surreal point-and-click VRPG (VIBE-RPG™), set in a peculiar world filled with intriguing places and quirky characters. I'll have an ongoing devlog with weekly updates on my Smallo Itch Page. I'm keeping the scope very small so I can finish it in a reasonable time and yet ensure it is enjoyable for people to explore. As always I would love to hear any comments or ideas, Eli

    New Sap Content Coming Soon...

Hello, A few bug reports pointed me to some fixes this week, and I've gone in and refactored a significant amount of the code to allow me to fix things easier in the future. I wrote this game as my final project for my degree and at the time there was a lot more going on than just writing a game. As such I'm now able to get in and start correcting hasty code. The real purpose of this game was always to serve as a prototype or a teaser for the 'full game'. I'm extremely grateful to people playing and reporting issues, please continue to do so. As I said previously, I'm going to shift my focus to some final corrections including saving your settings choices so they don't have to be set every time you play. After that I'm going to add in a bunch of new cards. I can't, and won't state the exact amount until I finish the build, but no less than 15 for sure. Lastly, I've starting in on working on Sap Labs, which is to be a bigger and better version of Sap, in every way. I will likely start a devlog for those who might be interested in the process. I will not allow Sap: School Days to slip between the cracks however, so don't worry! As always I would love to hear any comments or ideas, Eli
