Explore the vast potential of planetary life simulation in Planetary Life by Sotenbox. Manipulate ecosystems and witness creatures evolve across your entire world, all set for an early access release in 2025.

About this game

From an uninhabited planet in space to an ecosystem full of life.

In Planetary Life you will be able to shape a planet in the purest Sandbox Simulation style, playing with its mountains, seas and even its climate, to create the perfect habitat to harbor life.

PLANETS

Control a planet with the multiple tools available. Let the tectonic plates shape the mountains and seas, modify the climate, the heat of the nucleus, the volcanic activity, the gases of the atmosphere, etc... until shaping the home of your creatures.

CREATURES AND EVOLUTION

Add creatures and evolve them from simple organisms to intelligent beings. Design and expand them looking for the balance of a perfect ecosystem.

Help them or let them fight for survival on their own.

CELL STAGE

Create new life forms combining different types of cells. From single cells and multicellular life, to macroscopic creatures and plants.

GEOSPHERE AND ATMOSPHERE

Change core heat and volcanic activity to shape your planet terrain through volcanoes.

Manipulate rainfalls, cloud and surface albedo to change the climate.

ECOSYSTEMS

Build ecosystems. Maintain the balance between fauna and flora. Do not let them break the harmony and avoid the extinction of species.

WALK YOUR PLANETS

You can walk around and see from a first-person point of view your planet and your creations.

CIVILIZATIONS

This feature is still not available in Early Access, it will come in a major update soon!

When your creatures reach sufficient intelligence they will organize themselves into tribes and later flourish into civilizations. Manage and help them in the battle for technology to conquer the planet.

Devlog 6: Working on Civilizations update

Hi everyone! This is a quick update with the current development status of the Civilizations update. The bottom menu size and content has been reduced, so it doesn't take too much screen space and it shows mostly resources and current global status of the city.On the other hand, the demography menu now contains the temperature tolerance bar. However, I'm thinking on doing changes here so there won't be a global temperature tolerance, but... it will work per tile. So, you can have some areas of the city that are OK, but other areas are freezing. This will open new survival strategies such as allocating some space for buildings that will warm/cool the area.Of course, this means a new menu ("habitability menu" maybe?) should be added. Also, the resources menus got improvements showing now all sources that increase or consume each specific resource:Buildings menu has been totally reworked again. Now, I think is much more intuitive and easy to use.You will have a list of buildings that you can create on the left menu. Also a demolish button.Once you select a building type, you just place the new building in the highlighted green areas. Always next to existing city extensions. Also, buildings have a building cost, maintenance cost (be careful spamming buildings without a plan!), and requirements: lumber camp requires a tile with wood resources.Military menu keeps pretty similar, but now custom vehicle slots will be blocked until you find the right technology. Also, new religion/politics menu. A bit more simple but easier to use than the previous prototype. You will be able to choose between 5 cards and combine them to create the rules of the civilization. Here, you can use and mix politics and religion type cards. Each card can have benefits but also disadvantages. You choose what kind of civilization you will build. These cards and more will be unlocked when you investigate more technologies/discoveries.Disclaimer: The cards in the following screenshot are just mock-ups!On th...

Devlog 5: Working on Civilizations update

Hi everyone! After some few updates and making the game compatible with Steam Deck, I returned back to my regular work on Civilizations update. This time I would like to show you things.DEMOGRAPHYFirst, I changed how population work in cities, from a single overall population number into something a bit more complex based on ages and groups of demography. If we have creatures with different ages, why not the same for cities? We will have three groups of age: young, adult and elder. Each of them will have different properties, for example in this image you can see that only adults and elder people can be workers and used in the city production. Also, there is a graph showing how demography is distributed per age.For now, I will try to keep it simple, but this will allow some more flexibility for future features.VEHICLE EDITORI shouldn't add more scope to the update, but anyway... I think this was needed!I added a full vehicle editor to the game. The way it works is similar but a bit different to another very familiar game. Here, you don't have 3 slots for 3 different types of vehicles (land, water and air). Instead, you have 3 slots for any kind of vehicle. When you design a vehicle, first you have to add a base component, this will define if the vehicle is for land, water or air. This means, you can create a civilization where all vehicles are ships because the whole planet is a water world. Also, the base will provide energy for the rest of the components, where each of them will add life, defense and attack power properties to the vehicle.I hope you like this new additions! The update is starting to look good and I probably after this everything is going to start progressing faster. So, soon, you will start seeing devlogs more frequently!See you!
