Steam Deck update and bit more on the fate of Fera

Hey Fera faithfuls, thanks for your patience and your continued support!! After our much needed holiday break, I'm pleased to announce that our latest patch includes the much awaited Steam Deck compatibility! (please read the update notes down below) In our original "State of Fera and our Studio" update, we discussed our "Hail Mary" plan for Fera. As of Jan 3, our base price for Fera has been switched to $9 USD. But we are not exiting out of Early Access and calling it a 1.0, we feel the state of our game isn't near what we would consider a 1.0 release yet and to do so would be disingenuous. However, we feel $9 USD is a fair price for the 30+ hrs of gameplay that our game currently provides, some jankiness not wishstanding. Our team is quite thrilled to see a rise in positive reviews for our game since we lowered the price point. Please write a review if you enjoyed the game, it really helps us and our dream is to get out of the MIXED rating. As for further development of Fera, we are solely dependent on the incoming Steam revenue to fund it. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44536685/9b6bb72cd1377f75b08ad36dac77bab99d2a66de.png What the image shows is the full Lifetime Steam Revenue for Fera to date. Our share of that was $36K, we used up most of it for the patches leading up to the this latest one. We'll let the revenue collect up a bit while we finish up some milestones for our next project (which is the crucial thing with funding that allows to continue as a studio) but we hope to be able to get some more development resources on it if revenues build up enough by March/April. In the meantime, please enjoy the latest update, we will keep you posted if any big JUMPS in revenue will allow us to pursue development sooner. Thanks again for your continued support and warm wishes, we feel like we have the best of the Steam community with us on this journey. With love, The Massive Damage Team 0.7.1.0 - Steam Deck Compatibility is Here! We’ve been hard at work optimizing Fera to lower ...

MAJOR UPDATE 0.7.0.0 (Early Access Founders Pack and Tons of Improvements)

0.7.0.0 Founder's Pack And Improvements We recognize that this drastic price decrease by 70% will be unfair to those who bought our game early. As mentioned before this price decrease is the only shot we have left at possibly keeping this game alive so we can keep working on it. For those early purchasers at the original price,we've come up with an Early Access Founders Pack that will be unlocked for you. The Early Access Founders Pack includes: 1) a new metallic glider, accessible in the options menu 2) gorgeous purple VFX flying trails (also accessible in the options menu) 3) a Baby Thunderhorn that you can add to your village (you just need to build a pen for them) Thanks again for your early support of Fera! EARLY ACCESS FOUNDERS PACK 1.1 3 new cosmetic items for players who have bought the game before the price reduction. These include a new glider, new glide vfx and a baby Thunderhorn. GAMEPLAY TWEAKS 2.1 We've loostened the rules around dodge roll and collision so that a portion of the dodge roll can now phase through monsters. This allows you to much more easily dislodge yourself from under a monster, and allows you to get out from under a monster corpse. 2.2 Scaleback hitboxes were triggering a tad early, resulting in unfair hits on players. 2.3 The initial portion of the dodge roll has been sped up 60%, which ups its usefulness. NEW STATION: INVENTOR'S DESK 3.1 A new station now becomes available at Tribe Lvl 3 that allows for the creation of healing potions, bouncy jumpshrooms (that send you flying up into the air) and deployable grapple jellyfish, each of which you can bring with you into the underland. PROGRESSION CHANGES 4.1 From the outset, we're now giving players two tether charges, air boost and all the heavy jump attacks for each weapon. For this purpose, we're giving all existing players a free skill refund, that will allow you to refund all your skills down to the starting state, which will gift you the skill points you initially spent on those ...

The Fate of Fera (and our studio)

First we want to thank our early supporters and community for Fera. We learned a lot from your valuable feedback (both good and bad) and we’re sorry we were not able to deliver a better Early Access experience. We made a lot of mistakes with our development and launch of Fera: The Sundered Tribes. As our first 3D Open World multiplayer game, we definitely bit off more than we could chew and there’s no blame to be laid on anyone or anything except for ourselves. Honest numbers for Fera Here’s the honest math regarding the sales of Fera: - Lifetime Net Revenue: $110k - Massive Damage take home 20% (our investors are owed the rest): $22K - This is all we’re expected to see from the first 2 months of sales. - Due to the lackluster sales, we could not afford to keep our team of 26 people so unfortunately we had to lay off 60% of the studio. - We’re doing our best to help them find contract work and other opportunities. - Because our studio is entirely reliant on publisher funding, the majority of our team has to work on a new unannounced project (for which we have already secured funding) - Despite the flaws we are still proud of what we tried to accomplish with Fera and we would love to find a way to keep working on it if possible. Hail Mary plan for saving Fera We’ve come up with a Hail Mary plan that might be able to allow us to generate enough revenue to be able to hire (or hire back) resources to keep improving and adding to Fera if it succeeds. Here’s our plan: - As of Nov 27, Fera will be on sale for 70% off until Jan 3rd. - We feel this price drop is necessary to make Fera in its early state a much more attractive and fair price. - We will attempt to fix some of the major issues with the game before this sale goes live. - After the Autumn and Winter sales, Fera will release to v1.0 with a new BASE price of $9.99 - As the current game has about 25-35hrs of gameplay, we hope this will attract new players while still giving good value for the $9 - If we find a new l...

Patch 4 (Major Optimizatiom Patch) is out!

0.6.7.0 - Major Optimization Patch Thank you all for your patience, we’ve heard your feedback regarding performance, and over the past two weeks, we’ve been focused on optimization. The performance issues were most prominent in foliage-heavy areas, with the Northern Forest being the most affected. Here’s what we observed: - High-end machines (e.g., Ryzen 9 7950X3D + RTX 4090), which we expected to run at 60 FPS in 4K on High Quality, were averaging around 52.5 FPS, occasionally dropping as low as 40 FPS. - Mid-range machines (e.g., Ryzen 5 5500 + AMD RX 7600), which we expected to hit 30 FPS at 1080p on High Quality, were averaging 27.5 FPS, with lows reaching 22 FPS. After our optimizations, we’ve significantly improved performance in foliage-heavy areas: -High-end machines now average 68.5 FPS at 4K on High Quality, with drops rarely going below 62.5 FPS, and never for prolonged periods. - Mid-range machines now average 41.5 FPS at 1080p on High Quality, with dips rarely falling below 37 FPS, and never for prolonged periods. Of course, performance can vary based on specific hardware setups, but overall, you can expect improvements in the range of 10-15 FPS. In short: - High-end machines can now comfortably hit 60 FPS at 4K on High Quality. - Mid-range machines can confidently achieve 30 FPS at 1080p on High Quality. Thank you all for your patience on this topic! On other topics, there were also a few additions for gameplay and quality-of-life. They're in the notes! OPTIMIZATION 1.1 We've reduced the over-use of hardware occlusion in certain particle effect systems, which was unnecessarily straining the CPU. 1.2 Shadow rendering for foliage has been tuned to lower GPU costs with minimal impact on the overall look, providing smoother performance, especially in foliage-heavy areas. 1.3 Reflection settings have been optimized to reduce overall costs, improving performance while retaining visual quality." GAMEPLAY ADDITIONS 2.1 Each weapon has been given a distinct lig...
