HPS Insight #4: What do players really want?
Hello, officer! In this segment, we explore the real expectations players have for a modern police game and how we turn them into fully functional systems in HPS. We move away from vague ideas and focus on gameplay mechanics that genuinely impact how the game feels and plays.Every system in HPS begins with one question: what do players truly expect? It is not just about a list of features, but about creating an experience that feels cohesive, engaging, and gives players a sense of control over the situation. Only then do we design the gameplay systems around those expectations.Players primarily expect dynamic and responsive real-time combat that goes beyond simple clicking. They also want exciting pursuits that are not repetitive, but evolve depending on road conditions and the unfolding situation. On top of that, progression systems and support mechanics should have a meaningful impact on how operations play out.How do we deliver that?In HPS, each of these areas receives its own dedicated solution. Combat is built around a unique suspect pacification system using police equipment, where control and escalation matter more than brute force.Pursuits are designed around a drag & race chase system, giving them rhythm, intensity, and unpredictability often missing from similar games. Meanwhile, station progression is tied to an upgrade tree that directly affects available capabilities and playstyle.Field support is not just an extra feature. The police dog acts as an active gameplay element, assisting the player in critical moments and expanding operational possibilities. All of these elements form an integral part of a gameplay model that gives players greater influence over the situations they face, making their decisions carry real consequences during operations. Instead of passively completing objectives, the player actively shapes how events unfold through their choice of tools, strategy, and actions in the moment.More information coming soon. HPS Insight #3: First contact matters
Hello, officer!Stopping a vehicle is only the beginning. The key moment comes a few seconds later, when you approach the driver and the conversation begins. This is where you start working with real information. In HPS, the first contact is not just a formality. You observe not only documents, but also the driver’s behavior. Tone of voice, consistency of answers, reactions to questions – all of this builds a picture of the situation, but none of it is direct proof. Your job is not to guess, but to gradually confirm or rule out suspicions.Every stop starts similarly, but it can quickly stop being routine. You check documents, ask questions about the journey, and look for inconsistencies. Sometimes everything matches and it ends with a warning. Sometimes a small detail leads to further action.Escalation plays a crucial role. In HPS, every decision must be justified. Searching a vehicle, detaining a driver, or calling for backup are not “shortcut” options. If you act too quickly, there are consequences. If you are too cautious, you might miss something important. The system reacts to the context of your decisions. The same situation can mean something different depending on what happened earlier. A driver might simply be mistaken without bad intentions, or they might be hiding something. It is up to you to decide whether to continue the stop or end it.Not every conversation stays calm. A routine stop can suddenly become something more dynamic. Tension builds gradually, often without a clear warning sign.In HPS, conversation is not a break between gameplay moments. It is part of the decision-making process that drives everything forward.Read full article on Community Announcements (Soldier)AnnouncementsOfficial
HPS Insight #2: Pursuit is not a race
Hello officer! Not every driver will stop when ordered. Sometimes a single decision turns a routine traffic stop into something far less predictable.A pursuit in HPS is not designed as a race. It is a situation where everything can change within seconds, and your role is not to be the fastest, but the most effective. The start is simple. A suspect ignores signals and begins to flee. From that moment, everything matters: how you drive, the condition of your vehicle, traffic density, and road conditions. Rain, gravel, or night are not just details. They are factors that can decide the outcome. The suspect will not behave predictably. They will use traffic as cover, try to lose you in narrow streets, or take risks a normal driver would avoid. Sometimes they will drive on the wrong side of the road. Sometimes they will make mistakes. Sometimes they will try to force you into one. This is where the real decision-making begins. You can maintain pressure and wait for the situation to collapse. You can try to cut off escape routes or force a stop by damaging the vehicle. There is also a more direct option, the PIT maneuver, which when executed correctly can end a pursuit in seconds. At higher speeds the risk increases and control can easily be lost.Physics matters. Traction changes with surface type, damage affects handling, and every collision has weight. The system does not forgive mistakes. If you lose control, the consequences are immediate. Not every pursuit ends the same way. Sometimes the vehicle is stopped. Sometimes the suspect escapes on foot after abandoning the car. Sometimes civilians are harmed, leading to internal consequences. There are also situations where you decide to disengage. That is also part of responsibility. When the vehicle stops, the situation is rarely over. The escape can continue off-road, between buildings, through fences, and into areas where the vehicle no longer matters. At that point endurance and situational awareness become critical. At every s...Read full article on Community Announcements (Soldier)AnnouncementsOfficial
HPS Insight #1 – When can you stop a vehicle?
Hey there, Officer.Let’s talk about something that might not look flashy at first, but it’s at the heart of HPS.This game isn’t just about chasing bad guys down the highway. It’s about knowing when and why to pull someone over in the first place. When we started building the traffic stop system, we didn’t want it to feel random or gamey. We leaned into real-world logic. Every stop needs a reason. Not a vibe, not a hunch, not “this guy looks sus”.You act on what you see.Things like:traffic violations, like running a red light or failing to yieldvehicle issues, like broken lights or a missing plateunsafe driving, weaving, sudden braking, stuff that just feels offdrivers trying a bit too hard to avoid youreports coming in from other units or civiliansSometimes one thing isn’t enough. But stack a few small red flags together, and now you’ve got something worth checking. From spotting to stoppingPulling someone over is just the start. In HPS, you go through the whole process, step by step:Observation → Justification → Pull-over → Initial contact → Verification → DecisionWarning? Ticket? Or is this about to get more serious? That part’s on you.And yeah, your choices matter. Jump the gun and you might mess up. Ignore something important and that can come back to bite you too.Real thinking, not guessingWe’re moving away from the classic “stop every suspicious NPC” style. In HPS:being in a bad neighborhood doesn’t mean anything on its ownnervous doesn’t equal guiltyevery stop needs a clear reasonevery escalation needs new justificationThe idea is simple. We want you to think like an officer, not just react like a player.Less blind action, more reading the situation.More insights coming soon.
