About this game

God Brawl is a revival of the classic god game genre, with a campaign that will see you fight your way across many realms, gaining followers and wiping out rival gods. Use your powers to create land for your followers to build and expand, send them to capture shrines and worship you, and use their belief on deadly powers to destroy the heretics and their false gods. Beware, your rivals will not be complacent, your followers and your existence is in danger!

Gain followers

Raise land from the seas and flatten mountains to give your people a place to live. Your followers can only build on flat healthy land. Bigger settlements will have higher population capacities, extend your influence further, and have bigger maximum garrisons, The more followers garrisoned in a settlement the faster new ones will be born.

Capture shrines

In order to survive and collect belief from worshippers, you must capture and hold shrines. The shrines are your gateway to the realm, and each one holds a godly power that you may unlock. You must hold all of a map's shrines to banish rival gods from the realm.

Use godly powers

Use your god powers to sink, burn and explode the heretics away. You'll have some tough choices to make, like should you destroy those heretics with a meteor, or a volcano? God powers cost mana, which is dutifully generated for you by your followers. Best to keep an eye on their welfare, to make sure you don't run dry.

Command your followers

Use commands to send available followers to capture settlements and shrines from rival gods, or to extend your influence into their lands to use your god powers. Your enemies will be seeking to do the same to you! Capture all of your rivals' shrines to declare victory.

Campaign

The campaign will see you travel across multiple realms, battling enemy gods for control. You may encounter the occasional ally along the way, who will need to be politely vaporised when no longer needed. Maps will have different combinations of shrines and god powers available, as well as a few different biomes.

God Brawl is developed by a solo developer (me) and is under active development. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have feedback or questions, and I will do my best to get back to you as soon as possible!

Smarter enemy gods, new UI, leaderboards and followers learn about fear

Lots happening on God Brawl over the last few months. The demo is almost ready to go, wishlist the game and stay tuned! Enemy god AI updates AI gods have developed a new hobby, lobbing meteors at your followers. They make a good effort to avoid smiting any of their own followers nearby, but sometimes the opportunity to take you down a notch is too good to pass up. Just like you, they need to capture a meteor shrine before gaining access to this power - so be sure they don't get it! To keep the meteors rolling in, a god needs mana. The AI has learnt how to balance the needs of a healthy religious economy, and will now command a proportion of its followers to worship at its shrines. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/3e519662131f5e7618873bad9043857c52607216.png New UI and leaderboards The old placeholder in-game UI has been replaced with a cleaner hex-themed look. You can find your population and your current pop cap (limited by the number of follower homes) in the top left, with your current mana beneath. On the bottom of the screen you will find your godpowers, with new buttons becoming available when you capture shrines. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/8455d67d82c04b46bd55ec7013c4a0efae83e5fb.png To help transport you across the godly realms for your conquests, a new campaign menu has been created. The campaign menu will introduce you to each level and progress you through the story, with the map you are about to play displayed blurred in the background. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/29d6a13340dfd012d1acc3c75bf07bc309719268.png Upon winning a map, you will receive a score and a rank on the Steam leaderboard. Competitive gods may decide to replay a map to try and unlock the maximum score and the coveted #1 spot. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/2fd7744a739e7cce1412a460559cd085eb0a29d5.png Followers flee from danger Your followers have gotten marginally more intelligent, learning a proper respect for volcano safety procedures - run away! When detecting danger, followers will now start...

Shrines, influence rings, stonings, death, commands and a map editor

Shrines The biggest change this update is the introduction of shrines, where your followers can go worship you and generate mana. Shrines cannot be built, only captured, and they represent nexuses of power on the map. It is through shrines that you can reach through to the physical realm, facilitating your godly misdeeds. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/873a67cf8a4badd23712ff041cfe346c89c16b56.png As followers pray at shrines they generate belief that increases your range of influence, allowing you to use god powers further afield. Capturing all shrines on a map will bring you victory - and remove rival gods from interfering in your lands. In a future update, expect shrines to be tied to how your god powers are unlocked or upgraded. Would love any feedback on which direction you'd like to see this go - should the different shrines on a map be tied to specific powers, varying the god powers you can unlock map to map, or should you be able to choose which power to unlock when you capture a shrine? Influence rings Related to shrines, you will now be limited from acting outside of your influence borders. Your influence borders represent the limits of your power, and can be extended by capturing shrines, followers worshipping at shrines, and the building and expansion of follower settlements. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/07679c9d90c3cded5960471c6c65eac96557420e.png The influence borders should help prevent some of the initial chaos of rival gods swooping in and throwing a meteor at your base at the beginning of the game. You'll have to think more strategically, and fight for the shrines for map control. Stonings and death What better way to wage a war between gods than with some stonings. Followers will now pick up rocks from the ground and lob them at nearby heretics. This makes the combat a little more interesting and lets larger mobs get in on the action at once. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44305998/8d233866c10a1ccd84000ceb46fc2d9fb3c09788.png Once dead, your followers now hang aro...

Flood the world with tsunamis, and command your followers to capture settlements

Tsunami It's just become a lot more dangerous to build settlements on the coastline. You can start a tsunami from any sea cell, and send it off in one of six directions. The longer the tsunami travels across water before hitting land, the taller it will grow. Once it crashes into land it prompty starts flooding homes and generally ruins the day of everyone in the immediate vicinity. This was the top suggested god power from feedback over on Reddit, so I'd say they're responsible for the damages. Commands The waypoint mechanic for commanding your followers has been replaced by the command god power, which offers a bit more control, and allows you to have multiple commands at once. With commands you can order available followers to go to an objective, with you in control of how many followers to send. The closest followers to the command location will be picked. On arrival they'll act - capturing settlements, garrisoning, attacking other units or settling, and become free for further commands. Garrisons, pop caps and UI changes Settlements are garrisoned by a number of your followers, which defend the settlement should it come under attack. Bigger settlements can contain bigger garrisons. To make it clear how many followers each settlement can contain, I've added a garrison indicator that floats above each settlement. The garrison indicator shows the number of followers currently garrisoned in the building, with the outer ring filling up as it reaches its garrison capacity. Once a garrison is full, followers produced from the building will start exploring away from the settlement. You can disturb the settlement using the raise/lower land god power to force the garrison out, should you disapprove of their idleness. I've also introduced global population caps, each building adds to your global pop cap with bigger settlements adding more pop cap. This has been added to the UI on the top left, which now shows your current full population and your total pop cap. When you h...

Volcanos and bringing the joy of flat land to AI gods

Volcanoes You can now create volcanoes to destroy your rival gods' bases and drown their followers in lava. Volcanoes will be one of the most destructive god powers in the game. When you create a volcano it will raise all the land around it up to the maximum world elevation and start emitting lava streams. Any land the lava touches will be burnt - and must be terraformed back to health before villagers can build on it again. Any buildings and people in the immediate vicinity will become very dead. Rival god AI Your rivals in the game consist of other gods, who have the same hopes and dreams as you do. Primarily, this consists of more land, more followers, and more belief. The rival god AI has taken its first step forward and is now able to expand its domain, creating flat land in a (somewhat) rational manner. Unfortunately there's only so much land to go around, and so it's only so long before they turn their attention to more destructive activities. Other noteworthy changes 1. Improved rendering of player borders, now using stronger colours and drawn over the terrain rather than on hexagons. 2. Added more detail to the terrain for a bit more variation 3. Fixed bug causing existential crisis in followers getting stuck on the map edges and staring at the abyss. What's next 1. Next iteration of pathfinding and combat for followers 2. 1-2 more god powers, current top contenders from feedback: tsunamis, tornadoes, lightning, swarms, floods. That's it for now! Share any feedback in the comments, like what god power should I add next or what other features would you like to see in the game? And give it a wishlist to support the game if you're interested!
