Starter Reveal!
Meet three of the four partners in crime you'll get to choose from for your next epic adventure! They will feature dual elemental affinities and branched evolutions! We're planning to have four starters in the game, and take this opportunity to introduce players to the concepts of affinities and branched evolutions. Each starter features two dominant elements from the get-go. The player may choose to specialize further by branching off as early as the first evolution; they don't lose their dual affinities but one will clearly develop faster than the other. As things stand, branching is not appreciated a whole lot. We're considering the possibility of branching even further by introducing a third affinity to the mix. There's nothing particularly special about the fourth starter. I just forgot it existed. But perhaps we can let it appeal to the undecided by featuring several more simultaneous affinities (albeit less developed than the others).- JVemonRead full article on Community Announcements (Nexomon)AnnouncementsOfficial
Ponderossa Sneak Peek & Team Expansion
Greetings, tamers - JVemon here. I've no doubt that you've been and anxious and wondering what's happened to Nexomon over the past year of silence.Anyway, today we're having a sneak peek at the vibrant and sea-touched bastion of Ponderossa. Yes I came up with the name before checking the spelling. No, we're not changing it.My goal with this is to reemphasize our earlier commitment to visual excellence - and while we're clearly still off the mark, we're proud of the leaps made since our first visualization of this 3D journey. It is our first game of this kind, and we want to make it right; plenty of technical research and engineering behind the scenes was warranted, but those things weren’t trivial to portray in a marketable devlog fashion.Much of that effort was funneled into the worldbuilding and rendering toolchain, with Ponderossa serving largely as a testing ground. Unfortunately, that did cause us to neglect the NPC department. Firstly, you will have noticed a severe lack of humanoids in the video. This is definitely not our intended direction, and making the world of Nexomon feel lively and organic is a priority. For the time being, we will have to make do with ghost towns as we preview other cities in the future. The stylization we've achieved with the worldbuilding is undoubtedly advancing appropriately. But looking closely at our (few) humanoids, you'll notice significant visual disconnects and inconsistencies. That's a matter exacerbated by our demand for robust NPC variety and expressiveness, and unfortunately much of our worldbuilding technical research isn't exactly applicable with the such nature of workflow. You can expect future devlogs in that area, so please don't be put off by the apparent emptiness in our next explorations. Development has been slow, though I suspect you didn't need me to tell you. We've expanded our team recently, and we expect to do so again soon. I can't promise anything regarding our timeline, but we can assure you that we're ...Read full article on Community Announcements (Nexomon)AnnouncementsOfficial
Devlog 006: Encyclopedia
Hello tamers!I've been using Discord (discord.gg/nexomon) to post small devlogs now and then. Starting today I'd like to post them on our Steam page as well as things are starting to take more shape. Nevertheless I strongly encourage you to join our discussion on Discord. This post is regarding devlog 006 - the Encyclopedia UI. This is a good opportunity to showcase the overall art direction in regards to the our monsters as well as the environments, as the Encyclopedia allows you to preview different backgrounds.Pay no mind to any of the numbers on the screen. We have not yet determined any stats for our Nexomon, so these were randomly generated and, of course, this is by no means the official sorting of Nexomon (I just added some that I wanted to show). The Encyclopedia should somehow aid players with location data/hints, although I'm not sure what the best format for that is quite yet. There are many more things that we should improve upon on this UI - such as sorting functions, badges for when a Nexomon has been captured, and other gameplay stats (e.g. times fought etc). Still, I hope this provides a general sense of the direction this system is taking.Curious about these Elemental Affinities? In Nexomon III, we no longer strongly categorize monsters by element. Each creature has a degree of affinity towards each element, which in turn affects various related mechanics. You could say that almost every Nexomon is technically multi-type now. Please join us for more details and discussion in our official Discord server here: https://discord.gg/nexomonUntil next time,JVemonRead full article on Community Announcements (Nexomon)
