Seamless Multiplayer, Board Clarity, and Playtest Invites!
Hey Survivors!Over the past month, alongside gearing up for our upcoming playtests, our primary focus has been locked on two major pillars: multiplayer connectivity and board state clarity. We want to make sure your co-op sessions are smooth, stress-free, and tactically transparent. Here is a look at what we’ve been building!Multiplayer Connectivity: Smooth, Resilient Co-OpOur goal for multiplayer is simple: playing with friends should feel as smooth and stable as playing solo. You shouldn't have to worry about a sudden network hiccup ruining a great run.Graceful Disconnect Handling: A temporary connection drop shouldn't immediately lock your game or kick you to the main menu. If your connection stutters, the game alerts both you and the host immediately and works in the background to reconnect you as fast as possible.Seamless Survivor Takeover: If a player does lose connection completely, the game won't grind to a halt. Control of their survivor temporarily transfers to the host so play can continue smoothly. Once the disconnected player jumps back in, the game quickly syncs their state and hands back control of their survivor seamlessly.Disconnected mid-run? The game detects your active session and lets you rejoin your team immediately.Seamless re-syncing! Players jump right back into control without locking up the game for others. Work in Progress: We’re currently refining the logic for what happens if the host drops, alongside preemptively squashing other potential multiplayer edge cases. We want host transitions to be as painless as possible.Board State Clarity: Strategy Over ConfusionDuring testing, we noticed it was sometimes tricky to keep track of actions, spawns, and tile changes happening during other players' turns. In Maximum Apocalypse, victory or defeat should hinge on your strategic choices, and not on missing vital information.Clear Monster Spawns: When new monsters spawn via dice rolls, the game now dynamically pulls up and highlights exactly where ...Read full article on Community Announcements (iasria)AnnouncementsOfficial
Playtest Sign-Ups Are Live! (+Story Narration, Boss Spawns, & Dog's Last Stand)
Hi Survivors! This month, our main priority is opening up sign-ups for Focus Group Playtesting, and because you supported us on Kickstarter, you get priority access. We're reaching the stage where we need fresh eyes to help us refine the experience, spot balance issues, and tell us what's working (and what isn't).How to Join Playtesting:Schedule: Kicks off in the first two weeks of September, with additional rounds following after.Deadline: There's no hard cutoff date, but we fill spots as forms come in. The sooner you apply, the sooner you'll get invited.Priority: Kickstarter backers will have their application submissions reviewed first.Fill out the Focus Group Application Form here: bit.ly/MAPlaytestingFormWhat We Worked On This MonthOutside of getting the playtest pipeline ready, we spent the last few weeks hunting down bugs and polishing up game feel. Here’s a quick look at a few features that just landed:Objective Story NarrationBack in June, we showed an early draft of how we wanted to deliver story moments. That system is officially integrated! Now, whenever your team completes a major objective during a mission, dynamic story narration triggers to keep the narrative moving while you play.Story narration after completing a major objective. Cinematic Boss SpawnsBosses should never just "appear", they should strike fear into your entire squad. When a boss spawns on any player's location during pivotal story beats, a cinematic alert now broadcasts across all players' screens simultaneously. No matter where you are on the map, you’ll know the threat just escalated.AI Core Leader Global boss spawn alert screen.Fallen Teammates & Dog's Last StandIf a survivor dies, the rest of the team isn't completely out of luck. You can now scavenge cards and objective gear directly off dead teammates so key items aren't lost forever.Hovering on a dead teammate's backpack reveals their inventory! This mechanic created a unique situation for the Veteran. Housekeeping in the Wasteland: New Cutscenes & Smoother Combos
Hi Survivors! You could say that it's the small things that count in the apocalypse, right? This month, we are counting those little things and continuing on improving them. Just like maintaining your base, we’re doing our own housekeeping by squashing those pesky bugs and keeping things stable. We’re also working on improving visual feedback to make sure you guys always understand the state of the wastelands. But before that, remember Fireman’s situation last month? Well, we’re excited to let you know that the full cutscene is in the game. We can’t show everything yet but lucky you, you get a quick peek: Combos (Additional Actions, Passives, Interruptions) + Cancellation (Better Stacking)Card interactions can be tricky and that includes granting Actions, cancelling, and triggering Passives in between turns. We’ve also been making sure that they behave consistently so you can execute those flawless strategies without a hitch.In-world ObjectivesObjectives and other points of interest can now be seen in the world itself, so keep your eyes peeled on a box of warm blankets, or maybe a radio in the tile! Scenario and NarrationTo paint the state of the apocalypse better, we improved the Narration modals to have them stand out better! Each Mission has a different design so play each one to see them all!The wasteland is getting safer, or at least, a little smoother to navigate. Pack your gear, memorize your card combos, and keep an eye out for those blankets. We'll see you in the next update!Safe travels, survivors!— The Mega Cat Studios Team 🐱🐈⬛Read full article on Community Announcements (iasria)AnnouncementsOfficial
Cinematic Intros, Card Clarity, and Smoother Co-op
Hi Survivors! In our last update, we were obsessing over "game feel," introducing our Camera Action System, tightening up our input backend, and rolling out a brand-new title screen. We also jumped deep into the bug-squashing phase while laying out our next steps for Steam integration. This month, we kept our momentum going towards the end of the tunnel by focusing heavily on bug fixing and stability alongside a handful of key improvements. Here is a look at what we've been working on:Tutorial Prologue Cinematic: We want players to understand how dire the Fireman’s situation is in the Tutorial while also letting them dive straight into the action so the 2D Team has been busy with creating a prologue cinematic. Here’s a sneak peek! Improved Card Descriptions: We made improvements on the card descriptions, using shorter phrases and symbols to make them easier to grasp while keeping the original effect intact. Improving the Controller Experience: We’re continuing to improve the controller experience, making sure all menus, buttons, and on-screen elements are fully navigable and responsive. Multiplayer Fixes and Improvements: Surviving the wastelands alone is tough and so we’re making sure you and your crew can enjoy stable and seamless gameplay sessions. Thank you for backing us through this development journey. We're focused on crossing off these final checklist items, so stay tuned for more updates soon!Thank you for your continued support and patience as we polish Maximum Apocalypse into its final, most lethal form.See you in the wasteland.— The Mega Cat Studios Team 🐱🐈⬛Read full article on Community Announcements (iasria)AnnouncementsOfficial
New End Game Screens, Survivor’s Guide, and Final Polish!
Hi Survivors!Another month has passed in the wasteland, and we’ve been spending our time turning this project into a polished, cohesive experience. While we’re always looking for new ways to make your survival more difficult, this month was really about "finalizing the loop" and making sure that from the moment you start a mission to the final screen, everything feels tight and responsive. Here is a look at what we've been working on:New End Game ScreensWe want your victories (and your crushing defeats) to feel impactful. Unique Campaign Art: Each campaign now features its own unique art for end-game screens, plus a secret cutscene for players who successfully complete all missions!Glory for All: We’ve implemented achievements and titles for every player at the end of a mission, even if the mission failed.Back to the Action: Once the screen is cleared, the game now brings players directly back to the lobby to set up for the next mission. The Survivor’s GuideKnowledge is power when the world ends. We’ve been refining the entries in the Survivor's Guide to ensure you're never left in the dark:Full Library: We have filled out all entries, including several hidden ones for you to discover.Clearer Intel: We’ve updated the wording for all entries to be easier to understand and more in line with what you'll see in-gameMajor Bug Fixing !!Most of our time this month was dedicated to the less glamorous—but vital—task of bug hunting. Some specific areas we are cleaning up include:Enemy Targeting: Ensuring mutants are actually aiming where they should be.Controller Navigation: Improving the flow of moving through menus and the world via gamepad.Card Mechanics: Fixing issues with card combos and stacking to keep combat fair.As always, thanks for sticking with us through the apocalypse!
