About this game
Power Network Tycoon is a physics based power grid simulation game where you build and maintain a high-voltage power network. Build power infrastructure, monitor resources, research upgrades, adapt to environmental challenges, keep up with energy demands and protect your island community!
Start small by placing power generators, substations, and power lines. With greater demand brings resource constraints, safety risks, and exposure to natures challenges. Invest wisely in research, upgrades, and safety measures to ensure a stable and efficient power supply.
Developed by a Power Engineer
The game is a modern take on an often oversimplified genre, now with advanced power grid management and industry-inspired simulation mechanics. It uses advanced physics-based calculations found in industrial electrical design software and challenges you to make decisions that reflect industry best practices, built from the ground up to be easy to learn, but hard to master.
Protect Your Citizens
You'll be responsible for preventing electrical accidents and protecting your citizens. Assess ground potential rise under fault conditions, measure electromagnetic field strengths, and upgrade equipment to minimize the risk of electrical overloading. Failure to prioritize safety could lead to unhappy customers, outages, and worse!
Become An Expert
As the island community grows, your expertise running the Power Grid will be put to the test. You'll have the opportunity to upgrade and expand your network by building new power generators, power lines, substations and supporting infrastructure.
Overcome Challenges
Mother Nature can throw unexpected challenges your way, but as a resilient Engineer, you're always prepared. Storms, heatwaves and other extreme weather events will put your skills to the test. Upgrade your infrastructure, strengthen power lines and monitor the weather to mitigate the impact of these natural disasters. Balancing resilience and costs is crucial as you work to keep the lights on.
Every decision shapes how your network performs under pressure, how your power infrastructure holds up over time, and how your community grows. Plan carefully, think like an engineer, and see if your grid can stand the test.

Education Update
This update features the following changes:- Added Power Network Academy. A set of interactive modules to teach some basics before going into the game, but different to the tutorial which is more game focused rather than theory focused.- Added achievement related to Power Network Academy- Added further error protection and logging for save/load functions- Added 'Ignore Gamepad' checkbox for players with gamepads they don't want to use but also don't want to disconnect (eg steering wheel)- Added to gamepad/Steam Deck/handhand game wheel for more selections and better UI. Gamepad users also have the cursor return to the center of screen (better for placing assets) if for some reason they used the gamepad with a mouse at times. Opening the selection wheel also slows game speed to 'very slow', giving time to interact with the selection wheel but also a feature that may be rolled out further to slow down time during asset placement.- Fixed Enter button being used to navigate through UI- Fixed bug when exiting EMF shielding page via 'esc' key, game stayed paused- Fixed bug where substation circuit breaker tripping splitting network in two could not be restored by resetting the circuit breaker- Fix to skybox blending, going from sunset to night, so it wont snap from one to the other visually- Adjust how the camera moves and looks at faults that occurs. If faults are happening at very regular intervals (a few seconds apart), camera starts moving less often to not annoy the player.- Improved performance from mouseover/interaction system and rain effectsRead full article on Community Announcements (contact.davidmadethis)Patch NotesOfficial
Power Study Graphs, Performance Improvements and UI Changes
This update features the following changes:- Added two new graphs to the power study tool. A graph of the power generation vs power demand and a graph of the percentage of power coming from renewables.- Community Satisfaction now has colors to match some of the background code works, encouraging the behaviour to progress the game. = 99% is green which greatly increases city growth rate.- Modifications to how window lighting works to improve performance. Added an intermediate lights changing (eg start or ending night) visual of building-at-a-time instead of building window-at-a-time switching, meaning less steps to transition lights. Ultra graphics setting is the only level now showing window-at-a-time switching.- Default FPS is now 60 rather than Unlimited to reduce producing more frames than needed (eg excess computer heat, particularly in menus).Read full article on Community Announcements (contact.davidmadethis)Patch NotesOfficial
Translation Improvements, Navigation Upgrades and Bug Fixes
This update features the following changes:- Significant translation improvements including font fixes- Screen edge panning now added, allowing cursor placement on a screen edge to move camera. Toggle to enable/disable in settings menu (won't work in gamepad mode).- Added space below Connect buttons to make it clearer they are usually the buttons you will press- Power study UI now fits nicer on some of the less common narrow screen ratios- Power study now also includes renewables asset information- Delayed a "Power Quality" tutorial popup to not show when you click your first house to connect (information overload)- Graphics settings default for new players now includes Tilt-shift and Window lights visibleRead full article on Community Announcements (contact.davidmadethis)AnnouncementsOfficial
UI Improvements, Capacitor Bank Fixes and Gamepad Support
This update features the following changes:Capacitor Banks fixes to how they manage reactive power allocation, return for disconnection, off/on peak transition etc as well as visual tick movement when mouse-over of supply substationAdded gamepad wheel (L1/Left Bumper button) to more easily build assets when using gamepad. R1/Right Bumper button is now toggle game speed instead of using L1/Left Bumper for speed down and R1/Right Bumper for speed up.Added remaining subtitles for Tutorial Videos (previously only the first had subtitles)Add "Daily Income" and "Daily Maintenance" to Finance panel to help with planning costsWhen using the shortcut method (holding Ctrl) to connect a solar panel, wind turbine or grid battery, the chosen inverter to connect to is the nearest one that has the least connected to it rather than the previous method of simply the nearest inverter unless chosen otherwise through the UI. This allows for quick connect without overloading inverters. When connecting solar panel, wind turbine or grid battery, it will briefly show floating text of the inverter you connected to and it's current loading eg "Connected to Inverter 4 (25%)"Fixed event where running out of oil and then buying oil (with only power generators for supply) was not triggering a black start event. A black start event will now be trigger here as well as for other events when no power supplies are synchronised.Reduced scroll bar sensitivityAdded drop-shadow to most UI panels and buttons. Other UI visual improvements.Reduced minimum power value from 450MW to 400MW to close circuit breaker when energising nuclear reactor, making it easier to startChanges to community notice "Improved Power Quality" pricing as well as lasting twice as longImproved navigation with gamepad some UI such as regulator panelBug fixes including one causing issues flag on substations when no issues present, street lights staying on during day, stutter of camera movement if changing game speed while moving etcRead full article on Community Announcements (contact.davidmadethis)AnnouncementsOfficial
Single Line Diagrams and QOL Improvements
This update features the following changes:- Added Single Line DiagramS (SLD) for a diagrammatic view of your grid- SLD can be accessed using the G key or via a button in Condition Monitoring- EMF meter now by default only shows visuals for magnetic fields, not electric fields, as magnetic fields are generally what is relevant to missions- Added EMF meter in game tutorial text, plus tweaks to capacitor bank EMF calculation- Fixed bug stopping disconnected loads from disappearing if they were part of a mission- Fixed bug causing IR camera to not update its temperature values- Updated Unity engine version- Updates to fault current calculation for conductor failures- Increased thermal calculation intervals for conductors likely to fail when first installed/repaired- Added zooming navigation controls for the EPR/GPR tool, allowing scroll or right gamepad rather than clicking the zoom in/out buttonsCheck out the latest DevLog!Single Line Diagrams - Visualizing Complex Power NetworksRead full article on Community Announcements (contact.davidmadethis)
