About this game
Embark on a perilous journey as Sylvia the Squirrel in this experimental roguelite adventure. One day a powerful color magician steals Sylvia's house and throws her into the vast cave system below. Help her climb back to her home tree by conquering randomly generated caves and overcoming various challenges.
Collect
Use colors to tint your spells with unique effects such as creating yellow lightning chains or orange flames.

Shape
Shape the spells you cast using magical bottles. Each bottle comes with a different spell, such as creating a lingering trap, an explosive bomb or missiles that shoot out each time you get hurt.

Combine
Each color can be added to any bottle, combining the effect of the color with the behavior of the bottle.

Key Features:
Combine your own spells: Experiment with various combinations of colors, bottles and items to create spells with powerful synergies and behaviors.
Explore various different environments: Explore the vast cave systems below Sylvias tree-house that are filled with several secret paths, artifacts and structures. Each time you climb your experience will be different as the levels are randomly generated.
Interact with the critters of the caves: Get to know several critters that live in the caves. Help them out and get help from them.
Powerful Item Synergies: Discover and collect a wide variety of items that can be stacked to create powerful builds and synergies, enhancing your abilities and survival chances.
Tactical Decision-Making: Adapt on the fly as you strategically choose which colors to mix and which bottles to use to best face different enemies.
Challenging Roguelike Gameplay: Progress through levels, starting from the bottom of the cave system and ascend towards Sylvia's home. But be warned, defeat means starting over from square one. Can you overcome the odds and reach the surface?
Dive into an adventure, where quick thinking, strategic choices, and mastery of color magic are your keys to success. Can you guide Sylvia back to her beloved tree and escape the treacherous caves? The challenge awaits!

Dev Update 2025-06-06
Recently we have made a few changes primarily focusing on beginner players. First of all we have updated the tutorial in many different ways. We have reworked what information the tutorial teaches to the player and made some changes to how that information is presented with the goal of making the initial learning of the game smoother. But that is not the only change to the tutorial. We have also aimed to make the tutorial more interesting with more things to find and explore as well as making a complete visual rework to the tutorial. That being said we still have some work left, especially in connection to the tutorial boss encounters and cutscenes. Another change that we have made is a rework of how the rainbow combo works. The core system of making a rainbow combo deals some extra damage and allows the player to get more paint, but it should now be clearer to the player how it works and therefore easier to do. We have also added some more visual effects to it and made some quality of life changes. As the rainbow combo is an important core mechanic for the game we have also given more opportunity to the player to learn the mechanic. Some more work that has been done the last couple of weeks is an improvement to UI controls and a continued work on adding localisation to more languages. This is however not implemented to closed beta as of now. Go visit Sylvia's newly renovated home.MP TeamRead full article on Community Announcements (Kaffeklumpen)Patch NotesOfficial
Dev Update 2025-05-23
These past two weeks we have introduced a new NPC into the caves of Painted Peril! We hope everyone will enjoy the presence of Tizo the traveling trinket trader! Err… or at least his cart for now… In Tizo's cart Sylvia can find many of her precious items which Tizo has collected on his journeys through the caves. And as a trinket trader Tizo would be more than happy to trade his trinkets with yours as you find each other in the caves. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/0a03298662fbb5c242f7b8ab44e2050c0289a39a.jpg {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/0bd65dcff978a08f5501e858d140152bbe20a423.jpg Besides Tizo we have also had some major balance changes made to all spells in the game. Before spell power was calculated by “bottle power” + “color power”, this has now changed to “bottle power” x “color power”. This will help ensure stronger spells scale on a similar level as smaller spells that summon multiple projectiles but with lower power. We have also had a rebalance to yellow color to ensure that lower power spells feel overall more satisfying to use. Lastly we have also tackled a bunch of bug fixes and generally improved the quality of life for Sylvia, as long as she doesn't run into any enemies. And, we almost forgot to tell you; we have also added eight new items into the game and reworked and rebalanced some existing items to make them more interesting and useful. Maybe you can find some of them in Tizo’s cart. Keep trading MP Team {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/3c50c313e61c0a1ec392501422de809c695845c6.jpgRead full article on Community Announcements (Kaffeklumpen)Patch NotesOfficial

Tjena, during the last two weeks we have been busy with updating the level progression of the game. Meaning we have added and changed some routes of what level exit that leads to where to make the players decision on where to go more meaningful. An addition to this has been to rework the system of keys and locked doors by adding more locked regions and level exits as well as adding the potential to get more keys through the new Willow Crates that will spawn in the levels. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/903793b5553937a21754abe75c702fd9fd3f0996.png Another feature that we have added is the ability to re-run and get more items instead of going directly to the final boss. This allows the player to get even stronger, but that being said it might not be the best decision to do as the enemies now also grow stronger. Especially when re-running. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/9809b121d9ca756c52451b8badd26ad7583a8084.png As a final gift for you we have also added a new spell to the game, Tinted Stones, which is based on a familiar enemy attack. We hope that you find it as satisfying to use as we do. We also took the opportunity to balance some of our other spells (color mushroom is now viable). {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44148302/f8a8241839a180eb419e91a11ae1546b85ef275a.png That's all for now. Dev Update 2025-04-25
This week we have important news to share with you. We now have a publisher for the PC version of Painted Peril, Fennonauts Publishing. We have been in discussion with them for a while, and since last week it is official. This is good news for us because this allows us to focus more on the development itself and less on marketing, which we appreciate. I will leave a link to their website beneath, check it out if you are interested in seeing what other games they are working with. On the project itself we have also been hard working on adding an additional late game level to the game, the marble city. However, I won’t get into detail too much about this addition (even if it is a major one) as it is better for you to find and explore the area for yourself. Go check out Fennonauts.
