SYNOPSIS
Leaving DNA is an adult visual novel where you play as Assistant District Attorney Rockford. The choices you make will shape the relationships you have with each of the women and will open different paths for Rockford's character development and the game's plot.
STORY
Assistant District Attorney Rockford is an idealistic, well-respected prosecutor dedicated to the principles of the American criminal justice system. But while enjoying tremendous professional success, the thing he wants more than anything has always been just out of his reach--a family. His mother died when he was very young and he never met his father, an elite special forces soldier. And his romantic entanglements, though plentiful, have always ended with his partner frustrated by his paradoxical aversion to intimacy.
But Rockford's life is about to be upended: a cryptic clue in a cold-case murder will set him on a search to discover his father's fate. And learning the truth will push the prosecutor to question his dedication to the rule of law and to reconsider the meaning of family.
Rockford's search will bring him closer to four beautiful women: a tenacious homicide detective with whom Rockford has a romantic past; a brilliant prosecutorial colleague and childhood friend; a steely ex-military combat instructor with her own notions about the justice system; and a sweetheart schoolteacher whose past and future will link up with Rockford's to change both their lives forever.

Leaving DNA Progress Update (August 2026)
Hello Steam,Episode Six is mostly done, I have only to add content for the detached path and for the post-romantic Emmeline path (if you broke things off with her). Other than that Episode Six is pretty polished--I'll probably add a couple more songs but editing/fixes are largely complete. I'm going to be finishing work on Episode Seven over the next several weeks, and then I'll decide if I want to go back to the detached path first or work on Episode Eight. Here's where the current update stands:Episode 8 - 0 rendersEpisode 7 - 690 rendersEpisode 6 - 2,047 rendersFor comparison the previous releases:Episode 5 - 3,526 renders (May 5, 2026)Episode 4 - 3,751 renders (Jan. 29, 2025)Episode 3 - 1,896 renders (Feb. 24, 2024)Episode 2 - 2,536 renders (Jul. 16, 2023)Episode 1 - 1,705 renders (Oct. 12, 2022)Thank you for your patience. There is still a substantial amount of work to be done but the finish line is in sight. My guess is early next year but we'll see how it goes.In the meantime you can check out my latest public render here: Jamie--MonkRead full article on Community Announcements (The Impious Monk)Patch NotesOfficial
Leaving DNA Progress Update (July 2026)
Hello Steam,July was not a great month for game development. I spent several weeks in June and July working with a particularly heavy 3D environment asset which was really slow to work with. Scenes took forever to load and save, they were sluggish in the viewport, and I experienced frequent stalls and crashes. I was really happy to finally be done with that asset, but then I discovered that the stalls and crashes were persisting even after moving on to the next scene. This really slowed me down. I was constantly waiting out my PC to see if the system really had crashed or if it was going to settle down, but more often than not I was having to shut down my computer by physically pressing the power button. After a lot of testing I finally determined that the problem was my SSD whereon I store all of my 3D assets is frequently overheating. Adding a heatsink to an SSD shouldn’t be that big of a deal and I’ve done it on another PC but I’ll spare you the details of the hours of black comedy which befell me trying to add a heatsink to this particular drive and motherboard. Today I am simply planning to clone and replace that drive. I’m really hoping this will fix my problems. If the PC experts are groaning to themselves right now, try to remember I didn’t even own a desktop until I started working on this game—I was using a Surface Pro and a ten year old laptop for all of my computer needs. I do not have a lot of experience on the technical side of game development, and I’m still just a guy working on a desk in his kitchen after coming home from his real job.Anyway, I’m continuing work on the final release. I want like hell to be done with this thing by the end of the year, but it’s going to be a fight to get it done by then. In the meantime, I thank you for your patience.Check out my latest public renders here: Aghavni 1, Aghavni 2--MonkRead full article on Community Announcements (The Impious Monk)Patch NotesOfficial
Leaving DNA Progress Update (June 2026)
Hello Steam,I made good progress on the game's final update, writing several difficult scenes and rendering them out. The final update is now up to about 2300 renders, but there is still a lot of work to do and I will need at least several more months. If you're new to the game and don't know this already, Episodes Six through Eight are being worked on simultaneously and will be released all at once. These episodes are each a bit smaller but as a group this should be the game's biggest update, at least by render count. In June Leaving DNA released its first non-English translation, Chinese. Welcome to our Chinese-speaking friends! Check out my latest public renders here (Jessa) and here (muscle girls).Thank you for supporting the game.--MonkRead full article on Community Announcements (The Impious Monk)Patch NotesOfficial

Leaving DNA Progress Update (May 2026)
Hello Steam,Well, Episode Five is finally in your sweaty hands. For those of you who have played it, I hope you enjoyed it. I do apologize again to everyone who had to restart due to a bug with some of the saves. I believe I've identified the issue and it shouldn't repeat for the next release.I am working on the game's final update, which will include Episodes Six, Seven, and Eight. I'm roughly 1,900 renders into it (I'm not starting from zero because I've been working on it while waiting for the animations from Episode Five). I don't know how many renders I'll need for the final release but the final three episodes will be shorter than the three that came before, so I'm optimistic this release cycle will be shorter than the last one.Less than 10% of those who have purchased Leaving DNA have the achievements from Episode Five (and less than 50% even have the achievements from Episode Four) so I will avoid any direct spoilers. Still, I want to make a comment about the final three episodes and if you haven't played Episode Five then it would be better for you to skip the spoiler section below.Spoiler section:There was a lot of sex and romance in Episode Five, the most of any episode. Some of you may have taken that as a shift in the story, and you're thinking that now Leaving DNA will finish out like any other dating sim AVN with cute dates and romantic moments with the LIs. Thinking that would be a mistake. The opening scene of Leaving DNA is a woman being beaten to death while her child listens. This was done very purposefully. Not only does Jimena's death and the subsequent fallout trigger the rest of the story, but as a scene her brutal murder sets the tone for the rest of the game. The warning page at the beginning says "Leaving DNA contains dark themes of sadness and tragedy." We've hit some of that so far, but the ending scene of Episode Five should indicate that we've still got plenty of dark ground to cover.I encourage you, as I always have, not to approach Le...Read full article on Community Announcements (The Impious Monk)
