About this game
WaxHeart is an atmospheric puzzle-adventure 3D platformer where you play as a wax boy with a lantern for a heart, journeying through a dark, ruined world in search of his lost memory. Solve puzzles, hide from monsters, and collect oil to fuel your light as you explore and discover the cruel fate of this land, and the role you play in it.
A Rich World Hidden In the Dark
This world has no natural sun, and is populated by candle-people - sentient beings made of wax, with a burning wick on their heads. In the center of the world, towering over a great city, stands a monolith known as the Sun Tower. This vessel and the Radiant Oil within it are the world’s primary source of light and life. Not long ago, the Sun Tower was shattered, and the world was cast into darkness. Soon after, a corrupting ichor substance spread through the candle-people’s
population, transforming them into warped, cannibalistic horrors. Now, a small Wax-Boy wakes from his long sleep. Guided by a dream of a memory, he begins his journey to the broken tower…
You Are the Torch
As you travel towards your destination, the light from your lantern-heart will help you find your way through the darkness, but also alert monsters of your presence. Holding your breath will help you hide, and heating up will reveal new paths.

Dev Log - August 2026
Hello there! This is Michael Wolf, Game Director of WaxHeart, and I'm back with another dev log! This August, we've been preparing for external play-testing by validating our final puzzle designs. Meanwhile, we're also getting in some major assets and scenes that we've been cooking on for a while. ⚠️ There will be a lot of spoilers in this dev-log, so please proceed with caution! ⚠️ Check out this month's log to see what we've been up to! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/5dddc03176781aadf85697a3f970e7f07411eae6.png Entering the Corpse of the Whale God We finally got our whale corpse model into the game! Its been two years since its inception, and we finally have it in the engine! This one took a lot of planning and coordination between our concept, level design, and 3D art teams because the whale is in the center fixture of the area, which you can platform on, around, and inside the body. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/a7aea44b6752d4abdaf24366594e026c643f3f07.png The level design for the space needed to be FIXED, because it couldn't change once we handed it over to the art team. This meant we had to have the puzzles and platforming tuned to a finished state before we could even start adding in the art. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/f67a031551daad79683c0898967c8cd0c25386d0.png We did a lot of play-testing and iteration, and once we were certain that it wasn't going to change, it was handed off to the art team. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/3e026923861a27a4922f62568d16a8e744552720.gif Sun Tower Chase Vis Dev Update The Sun Tower chase vis-dev is making great progress! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/90db6515ddb26e24ea71f6fbf79057458eecbceb.png This month, we were able to figure out our overall aesthetic for the space, and we're currently working on figuring out its color palette. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/ee3cdcd19ebea6d2a2917f849cc6de81280951db.png Our biggest challenge with this space is that it's hard balancing the aesthetically "bright" look of the space against the functional ...Read full article on Community Announcements (waxheartgame)AnnouncementsOfficial
Dev Log - July 2026
Hello there! This is Michael Wolf, Game Director of WaxHeart, and this is the first of (hopefully) many official monthly dev logs for the project. We've been in development for over 5 years now - so why start posting dev-logs now? To be perfectly honest, we've been meaning to do this for awhile, and it just hasn't been easy for me to find the time to write these. Given where we are with the project, we figured now would be as good a time as any to get started. Let's just hope we can make this into a habit! Check out this month's post to see what we've been up to! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/1cd2074c04feb50d0c0590dc7fb8c2bd640b1c42.png Milestone - Playable to the End! This month, we reached a major milestone - the game can now be played from beginning to end! This isn't exactly "content complete," because we're still iterating on some of the puzzle designs and some bonus challenge puzzles in the works. With that said, it's surreal to see the ending planned over five years ago finally take shape! Players can now play all the way through and reach the "ending," which is currently just our "thank you for playing" screen from our demo. The ending is hard to talk about without spoiling too much, but here's a bit of a preview: {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/1d4a31e7bb4120ca26e4b75f86350e6a75e9b515.png {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/44113762/713554b406b234800e6158286c7d7ba7d5343254.png The Scope of the Game For those of you unfamiliar with the scope of the game, WaxHeart is a 4-6 hour experience, spanning three major areas: 1) Ruined Village First, the Ruined Village, which is what is currently playable in our Steam demo. This part of the game has been "finished" for a long time now, but has gotten some love here and there. Recently, we've added a neat layer of frost over the village, and we've made some dramatic improvements to the library's textures. The Library in particular has gotten a lot of love recently, and I'm excited to see how playtesters react to it in the coming months. {STE...Read full article on Community Announcements (waxheartgame)
