About this game

A young man named Marcel goes to the mall with his older brother late one afternoon. While wandering around, he quickly finds himself in a bizarre version of the place he was just in. An odd entity in a dark hotel room fills him in on his situation, and it's not looking good -- Marcel has transported himself to an alternate reality, and he's got a long journey back home.

In Lobby Loitering, it's up to you to help Marcel return to his world by exploring the chain of odd hotels he gets transferred to. Help eccentric strangers with their daily problems, discover secrets and lore about the worlds you traverse, and get into plenty of places you shouldn't be in.

As of 2/15/26, Lobby Loitering no longer contains AI generated music. Thank you for bearing with me :D

    Proud to be AI Free!

Well, I never thought I'd get myself to do it, but stranger things have happened. Lobby Loitering is out NOW with an all new soundtrack, 100% free of generated music! When I originally developed this game in college, I made use of a website called "Melobytes" to generate music instead of composing my own. At the time (2021-2022), the ethics around AI had not fully been discussed, and I was unaware of the harm I was causing in feeding the machine. However, that doesn't really change things, now does it? I made heavy use of the "image to music" tools, feeding in my art and pictures I had found online, and waiting for it to spit out a track. The tracks themselves were odd, typically being off-key and out of tune, or making use of things like non-instrument sound effects or notes played in reverse. They also seemed to pull from a predefined list of beats and instruments, as a lot of the tracks had similar... sounds? I guess you could say? I don't know the correct musical term for it. And this alien sound felt like it was perfect for what I needed. The game came out as intended and on time. And it was around said release that the ethics around AI began to circulate. Concerns about the environment, or how fed data is stored, as well as the integrity of art as we know it and what it means for the future. However, I was stubborn and felt that because my damage had already been done, there was no point in sweating over it. I had grown too attached to the soundtrack to completely overhaul it, and I was too bad at composing (and too much of a perfectionist) to try and painstakingly recompose every single track by myself as accurate as possible. I had a future-focused mindset, and I still do. But, I started to worry about my ability to market the game. Selfish, I know. As public opinion (and my own opinion) soured against AI, I knew that this holy grail project of mine would have to be advertised with a bunch of awkward asterisks. Part of me was wondering if it wasn't generative...

    Launch!

Three cheers for launch! After a year and a half of slow development, Lobby Loitering is now out and available to play! This is my first ever major solo release, so I'm incredibly nervous and hope everything goes well. Please feel free to reach out if you encounter any issues or bugs, but above everything else, please be respectful, both to me, and to other players. If you write a review or make a let's play, or if you plan on streaming it at some point, don't be afraid to ping me or reach out as well! I love watching people play and reading about their experiences with my games. Thank you all so much for your patience, and I hope you have fun!

Countdown to Release - 5/13/23 (6 days to release)

I can’t believe it’s already here, Lobby Loitering is less than a week away! I apologize for not posting any updates in a while. I had finals, spent a week packing and saying goodbye to my friends, I graduated on the 5th, and spent the 6th and 7th driving 22 hours from my college back to my hometown. Needless to say, I’ve been quite busy. Thankfully, the game has been in a releasable state for weeks now, and the only thing we’d be missing is a few more secrets and bonus details. But now that I’m home and settled in, I can get everything extra ready for Friday’s release. I’ve got the nervous jitters, for some reason I’ve convinced myself that something is going to go wrong and the game’s gonna be broken and need an emergency re-release. So I’m going to do many more full playthroughs to make sure that doesn’t happen! Welp, see you on Friday!

Countdown to Release - 4/22/23 (27 days to release)

It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these, so this is almost exclusively so you guys know I’m not dead. I graduate college in two weeks, which is crazy to think about, and because of that, I’ve been super busy, and I probably will be until then. In the meantime, I’m continuing to do what I’ve been doing-- decorating, set dressing, and making more NPCs. Thankfully, there’s two weeks between when I graduate and when the game releases, so I have free time for more polish. The game also passed 50 wishlists here recently, which I am very excited for. So I really hope there’s no major hidden bugs that need a day one patch 😅. With less than a month left, I hope everyone is ready to play!
