About this game
THE RHYTHM IN YOUR BLOOD
Jump in, feel the rhythm, challenge the music!
Spanky “Bat-a-Swing” is a platformer where music isn’t just part of the experience: it is the world.
Set in a city where everything moves to the beat of a dynamic electro-swing soundtrack, the game
blends a visual style inspired by classic 1930s animation with gameplay that draws from the great
classics of the genre. The result is a vibrant, one-of-a-kind world that pulls you in with thumping
basslines, off-beat grooves, and sharp snare hits.
Everything around you moves in sync, like a living orchestra: enemies, platforms, traps, the city’s
mechanisms… everything is music! It is up to you to decide whether to ride this driving rhythm and
flow through levels like a perfectly choreographed performance… or resist it and carve your way
through chaos on your own terms.
WELCOME TO METRONOPOLIS
Metronopolis is a big, lively city: loud, relentless, always on beat. But it wasn’t always like this. It
used to be a great place to live… at least until the new mayor, Metrognome, took power.
Now, rhythm is law. Every citizen, every street, every system must follow the tempo imposed by his
endless soundtrack. Many have given in and accepted this drastic change.
But not Spanky!
A short-tempered bat with a knack for invention, Spanky has turned his oversized ears into
powerful speakers and decided to rebel against this musical madness. If the city runs on rhythm,
then he will use that rhythm as a weapon. His mission? Fight the mayor’s goons, climb the ranks of
Metronopolis, and give Metrognome a well-deserved lesson to put an end to the noise once and for
all.
And yes… press that big, shiny “OFF” button once and for all!
ENEMIES, PLATFORMS, AND LOTS, LOTS OF MUSIC
Step into Spanky’s shoes (and ears!) and explore the districts of Metronopolis, each defined by its
own unique visual and musical identity.
Make your way through hand-crafted levels packed with personality and style, in platforming
sections built around the rhythm of the music. Face enemies and traps that follow musical patterns,
meet a cast of quirky characters, and unlock new abilities to push your skills even further.
Between moving platforms, acrobatic routes, and timing-based challenges, every level will test
your precision, sense of rhythm, and ability to adapt. And when it’s time to face the bosses… get
ready to turn every encounter into a full-blown performance!
Stay focused, stay on beat, and don’t give up: Metronopolis needs someone to break the rhythm…
and finally bring peace back to the city!

Demo Update - Demo Build 23 (new numeration)
Hello citizens, here's another update for the Demo! Accessibility OptionsDifficulty Selection - you can now find a difficulty selector in the game options. You can change difficulty at any time, but beware! Playing a level at a lower difficulty than Classic will remove the elegibility for leaderboards (only for that level run). Switching to a lower difficulty during a level run will suspend the elegibility to the leaderboards.DifficultyDescriptionClassicThe way we intended the game to be played. Full inputs, all rhythm mechanics. Levels completed in this difficulty are elegible for leaderboards.EasyRhythm mechanics are active, but are all tied to a single input. Easier, but still requires some music sense.Baby BatYou hate rhythm games, and that's ok. One input for each action, and no rhythm mechanics. The most casual game mode, pure platforming.Workbench - Skin Unlock (Demo)Added availability to use the Workbench in Spanky's Hub. Added a first version of the skin unlock system. As of now, the skin customization system will be divided in 3 categories: Ears, Body, Shoes. Included in the demo the first story "based" alternative skin set: Mausoleum. Defeat DJ Cobweb in The Afterlife to unlock the skin parts at the workbench.Dialogue System RedesignDialogues were ugly looking. I made them a bit more interesting. We'll add an accessibility option for dyslexic people to turn off the conic effect on the lines of dialogue.Level CountdownI added a simple countdown timer at the start of platforming levels to allow people to prepare for their run. BugfixesLanguage Selector in the Settings now correctly displays ideogram based labels before selecting the language.Fixed some UI navigation paths not workingFixed UI navigation for selectors using the controllerFixed a graphical bug deforming spanky while on a moving platformFixed a bug where Marrow looked headless after the completion of the ribs quest.Fixed some animation transitions on Spanky.TweaksSpanky now can't activate windl...Read full article on Community Announcements (Il Boscaiolo)Patch NotesOfficial
Patchnotes - New Demo Build + Kickstarter Updates
UI Development is becoming a real nightmare, but apparently we're starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Here we go with another patch! Not many new features, but a few improvements:UI NEW SETTINGS - Some of you lamented the lack of resolution and display mode selection. That was fair and deserved, it sucked hard. So I implemented a brand new Settings Menu, with more features, including said options: resolution, display mode, camera axis invert options. I'm still not fully satisfied with the UI Art, but that's what I came up with for now.NEW UI NAVIGATION - UI navigation was a real mess and it has been for some time. After some screams at the screen, the UI Navigation System is (apparently) fully fixed. Will it keep being that way? Only time will tell.GRAPHICSNew Outline Effect - I finally managed to pull of an outline shader the way I wanted it, resambling the effect of old cartoons. At this point the outline has been removed from the environments and has been left only on characters and animated objects. This makes a lot more sense now.UI Recolor - I picked a new palette for the UI, more Spanky-ish. Not fully satisfied with it either.Rolling Boulders in level Landslide now have a new model and a faceNew Stretch & Squash Effect on Spanky - A new effect has been added on Spanky's movement. Now a mix of scaling and bone translation is responsible for new "body dynamics" on Spanky's movement. Personally I feel this adds A LOT of juiciness to the game. And now for some.. Kickstarter Updates! Physical Pledge Rewards have been announced!Check out the update HERE to have a look to all (but not actually all) the super cool rewards we're including in the kickstarter campaign! And that's all for today! Thank you for reading through my rambles, good night!Read full article on Community Announcements (Il Boscaiolo)AnnouncementsOfficial
🦇 BIG NEWS: Spanky "Bat-a-Swing" is coming to Kickstarter!
Hey everyone!First of all, thank you to everyone who has been playing the demo, sharing feedback, and supporting us so far. Seeing you all groove through Metronopolis and blast Mayor Metrognome's minions has been a dream come true for our team at Green Flamingo.Today, we have some massive news to share about the future of the game, and we want to be completely transparent with you about how and why we got here. The Road So Far (and the bumps along the way)Making an indie game is a wild ride, and Spanky "Bat-a-Swing" has been no exception. Many of you might not know this, but behind the scenes, it's been a tough couple of years. Back in 2023, we faced a huge setback when we were suddenly abandoned by our publisher. We dusted ourselves off, kept working on the game we love, and eventually thought we had secured a new publishing deal earlier this year.Unfortunately, we recently had to make the difficult decision to walk away from that deal, for reasons I cannot disclose.Taking Matters Into Our Own Hands: We're going to Kickstarter!Recently I was talking with Spanky's storywriter, Luigi (also writer for the kickstarter's promo comic, Election Day) and he said "Some say that talented indie devs are like unicorns, but we're more like cockroaches, because we're f*****g die hards". I thought that analogy fit us pretty well. So, once again, we refuse to let these setbacks stop us from delivering the 1930s-inspired 3D rhythm-platformer we promised you. We don't want to cut corners, and we absolutely do NOT want to cut any more features from the game just to meet a compromised budget. That’s why we’ve decided to stay fiercely independent and launch a Kickstarter campaign!Going to Kickstarter means we answer directly to you, the players. The funds we gather will be used to safely finish developing the game exactly as we envisioned it, with all tracks needed in our OST, enemies, levels and bosses. And if we manage to exceed our funding goals? We have some amazing ideas for new feat...Read full article on Community Announcements (Il Boscaiolo)AnnouncementsOfficial
