Update to version 0.8.700
This update brings the Kelp Forest zone, the ability tree, blowfish enemy, and the seals. I have one more big update before the bug-fixing stage and the creation of the game's official demo. I have a pretty big list of things to fix and tweak, so that stage will be significant, bringing the game to it's final vision. A 2-3 hour vertical slice.I'm getting right back into it tomorrow. The demo will include all but 2 of the game's core features, missing only the elemental swapping and trident gems, which are introduced in the following chapter.Thank you everyone for your patience as always. This is primarily a solo dev effort I handle in my free time, and it's finally starting to look like a real game.-DevDre CarrionwaveRead full article on Community Announcements (DevDre)Patch NotesOfficial
Update to version 0.8.675
Welcome to Opal! the home of the MiuraThe game now features its second town, including a new enemy, and a continuation of the story. We delve a little deeper into the game's main story as Keena faces new challenges with her trident and allies. Combat is proving to be working well in 3D as it offers more challenges. Kiting enemies requires more awareness, the new Eel enemy is a fast nuisance that invades your space and distracts you from the more serious hitters in the engagement, but ignoring them too much will dwindle your health away faster than you might think. Continued testing is leading a host of important notes for the upcoming bug fix patch. One concerning issue is the lag associated with enemies, something I'm going to need to look into very soon. Opal is a fairly large level but not the densest when it comes to enemy population. The next update will bring the Kelp Forest level, which introduces the game's dash ability and another enemy to fight. After that we address the game's first 'real' boss and update the crystal palace. Then it will be time to address the bugs and issues found so far, playtest, and release the game's official demo.Thank you for your patience and support,-DevdreCarrionwaveRead full article on Community Announcements (DevDre)Patch NotesOfficial
Update to version 0.8.650
This update introduces the Crushed Ruins level and the Trident, with the first taste of real combat. A lot of changes happening right now are systematic, and might be introducing bugs across the earlier content. Please feel free to report any issues if you come across any via Steam, Discord, or my business email Carrionwave@gmail.com 3 more updates until the game's first true boss and the game's official demo. Before the demo releases I will also go back and clean up and improve all the content prior to that and get the game more in line with its final quality. Thank you all for your patience and support, with the Trident acquired Keena begins her journey into true gameplay. -DevDre CarrionwaveRead full article on Community Announcements (DevDre)Patch NotesOfficial
Foundational update to version 0.8.625
This is one of the few updates that will break things. I'm really sorry if your save is unable to continue, but this update needed to happen before I got too deep into the game. This foundational update is making a few important changes, some for the sake of the game, others for my sanity. As it was I was essentially building 1 game while trying to leave the other untouched (Overhaul Vs Non-Overhaul content) this was becoming extremely time consuming as I tried to navigate both. All non-overhaul content is now removed from the build. These saves will fail. Separate playable characters have been collapsed into 'main character', any save where you were Cess or Nara will fail. Battle system has been revamped. Combat is no longer 'group' based, enemies spawn freely and you can see them around the map from a distance now. A few important changes to how player attacks are initiated, this removes MOST issues in regards to attacks not firing (but there are a few things I'm still looking into) Inventories share between playable characters now. Enemy HP is visible only on the target you have selected. You can now attack without targeting, it will attack the nearest enemy without locking your camera to them. More traditional CRPG saving system, 20 save slots, and entering an area will autosave. The next update will bring in the crushed ruins level. They are almost done as is, so it shouldn't take nearly as long. This update kind of appeared when I realized how much time I was spending doing things that weren't related to progress of the game. While addressing that I needed to make changes to combat. I think things are starting to click, but there are new bugs and issues that will be worked out soon.
