Dive into Sentient Steel, an intense 2.5D action-platformer where two players team up to thwart a rogue AI's synthetic invasion. Navigate through perilous levels, dodging growths and dismantling formidable Machines before they overwhelm you.

About this game

BYTE BACK!

In an instant, the city is overrun with Machines. A synthetic infection crawls its way through the streets. An underground society, with experimental tech in hand, scrambles to stop the rogue Artificial Intelligence and its creations. Face the fight alone, or team up with a friend, and stop the destruction!

COMBAT

SENTIENT STEEL features intense and accessible combat, which can be greatly customised using Magnet Modifiers — an experimental new technology (which you’ll be field testing)!

Master intuitive close-range and long-range attacks, absorb and unleash your Energy with abilities, and stylishly weave between dangers with your evasive manoeuvres!

PLATFORMING

Between battles, you’ll need to navigate the bizarre and challenging obstacles grown by the rogue Artificial Infection, which continue to engulf the city.

Jump, wall-run, zip, and dive through platforming challenges with highly-tuned controls using your preferred input method. (Keyboard- and controller-compatible.)

THE MACHINES

Stare in the face of the steel golems — then get out of the way when they fire! Metal Machines crawl, sprint and fly through the streets wreaking havoc…

Observe and retaliate against their fiercely dangerous — yet strangely not infallible — capabilities, until once great threats are reduced to opportunities to show off!

SENTIENT STEEL 1.1 Update Out Now!

A few months ago I decided to take a break from my new project, Morpho (working title), to return to SENTIENT STEEL with fresh eyes, over a year after release. As a thank you to those who have played, and as a personal bookend on this project, I wanted to publish a comprehensive free update to address the shortcomings that I ran out of time to fix last year.Over time, the scope of the update expanded, until I had eventually looked at almost every element of the game. Here's a list of the key improvements:Significantly improved performanceGameplay improvements and rebalancingOverhauled visuals and interfacesFixed audio120fps supportImprovements for Steam DeckNumerous bug fixesSo, whether you're back to fight the infection all over again, or returning to finish it off, I hope you enjoy the updates in 1.1!Lastly, if you're new to SENTIENT STEEL, please consider trying the free demo! It has been updated to Ver. 3, which includes all the improvements present in the main game.Thank you for all of your kind support.- etcher

SENTIENT STEEL Demo Ver. 2 is out now!

SENTIENT STEEL has changed a lot since the original Demo released. As the list of improvements grew, I realised you were all left with a largely outdated version of the Demo, so today I'm here to fix that! Ver. 2 includes the first two Missions of the game: both of which have been almost completely overhauled, and include some brand new surprises. Unfortunately, as the structure of the game has solidified in the lead-up to release, I've had to remove the third Mission (don't worry, it's still in the final game!) I apologise for this, and hope that the two reworked Missions will suffice until February. You'll also find improved visuals, improved UI, requested features such as adjustable music and SFX volume, and, of course, many, many bug fixes. Thank you for your continued support. SENTIENT STEEL is coming soon! - etcher
