Demo v6 - Exposed Ship Designer
Hello everybody, once again! As some of you know, I have been developing Stellar Insurgency for the past several years as a hobby side project. Development was put on hold for a few months, mainly because I got lazy, but I’m finally back and working on the game again. My goal with Stellar Insurgency is to create a procedural galaxy with emergent gameplay driven by simulation. Procedural generation is used to build the galaxy's “stage” automatically, including planets, star systems, factions, and other elements. The goal is to create a galaxy that feels alive and different from one playthrough to another, rather than simply generating a random collection of locations.Over the past few weeks, I have improved many parts of the game, but the most interesting development has been the Ship Designer. The Ship DesignerThe Ship Designer has gradually become a much more interesting part of the game, so I decided to make it accessible directly from the Start Menu.Initially, the Ship Designer will be locked and will need to be unlocked through an achievement. Once unlocked, players will be able to create their own ship designs and eventually share them with other players. There are many different types of components that can be installed on a ship, including shields, engines, weapons, sensors, and various other upgrades. However, not every component is optional. Every ship needs a core component that defines how it operates:Bridge → Large shipsAutonomous Bridge → Ships controlled by AICockpit → Fighters and bombersBrain → Biological shipsThese components also affect how the ship interacts with its crew.A ship equipped with a Bridge requires a Life Support component to keep its crew alive. If the Life Support system is damaged or compromised, the crew will begin to suffer the consequences.Ships with a Bridge also require a Captain or Commander to operate and navigate effectively while ships with a cockpit require a squad leader. An Autonomous Bridge, on the other hand, allows a ship t...Read full article on Community Announcements (tensorialproductions)AnnouncementsOfficial

Procedural exploration, demo v5.0 and more
This update expands Stellar Insurgency’s procedural foundation with planetary biomes, environmental and social hazards, and fully procedural exploration. Planets and colonies now function as dynamic simulation nodes that influence crew safety, trade, and faction stability, while auto-generated planetoid sprites further reinforce a uniquely generated galaxy each playthrough. These systems work together to create emergent, unscripted events that make every run meaningfully different.Welcome to another development update for Stellar Insurgency.Update HighlightsBiomes and environmental hazardsProcedural explorationAuto-generated planetoid spritesDemo v5.0 releaseMy long-term goal is to create a fully procedural galaxy that supports genuine emergent gameplay.Procedural generation uses rules and mathematical systems to construct the stage itself—star systems, planets, colonies, and factions—ensuring that every playthrough begins in a galaxy with a unique structure.Emergent complexity is what happens when simple systems such as trade, hunger, diplomacy, and aggression interact within that stage. These interactions produce unscripted outcomes like trade wars, regional shortages, or faction-wide instability, without relying on hand-authored events.Biomes and HazardsPlanetary biomes have been added. A biome acts as the mechanical “DNA” of a planet, transforming it from a static background object into an active simulation node. Biomes influence crew safety, economic value, exploration outcomes, and even ship integrity. Each biome draws from a pool of environmental hazards influenced by external parameters such as temperature, radiation levels, and proximity to the system’s star. Biomes also define a planet’s visual identity, for example volcanic worlds, frozen planets, or irradiated wastelands.Procedural ExplorationPlanets can now be scanned, probed, and explored multiple times. Exploration is fully procedural: each attempt selects a biome-related scenario with different reward...Read full article on Community Announcements (tensorialproductions)AnnouncementsOfficial
Construction, Warp Gates & Worm holes
Construction - Warp Gates & Worm holesWarp Gates and Wormholes have always been cornerstones of speculative fiction, embodying the dream of instant travel across impossible distances. They represent the ultimate triumph over the constraints of light speed, allowing civilizations to bridge galaxies and reshape the course of destiny—or face its terrifying risks. In this update, these concepts transition from fiction to core gameplay, offering you new strategic horizons and dangers to master.1. Construction SystemThis is an important new feature. A Spacecraft fitted with a Construction Beam module can now build structures. Activating the "Construction" button on a ship reveals available projects, starting with the Warp Gate.Beginning construction consumes the required resources from the ship's cargo. Every project needs some time to complete, during which the structure is non-functional. To accelerate progress, multiple ships can contribute to the same construction project simultaneously.Construction time.2. Warp GatesPlayers can now construct and link Warp Gates using the construction panel. Once two or more gates are operational, a player can configure an instant travel network between any two gates, regardless of how scattered they are across the galaxy. Transit between linked gates is instantaneous but carries risk; ships have a base loss probability of being destroyed during transfer. This inherent risk can be mitigated by researching specialized technology.A fleet is approaching a warp gate. The player can connect warp gates scattered in the galaxy.3. Worm holesWormholes are natural FTL passages that function like constructed Warp Gates but with key differences. They appear randomly as paired links between two star systems and must be discovered before they can be used. Each wormhole pair is either stable (permanent) or unstable. Unstable wormholes collapse after a set timer. When a collapse occurs, any fleet that was split between the entry and exit points becomes...Read full article on Community Announcements (tensorialproductions)AnnouncementsOfficial
Stellar Insurgency - DEMO v4.3 and more
Welcome to another update for Stellar Insurgency!Stellar Insurgency - DEMO v4.3 and more.Trading – Trade Routes & Colony TypesStar systems are linked by trade routes that form the backbone of interstellar commerce. Trading follows a supply and demand system, where commodities move along these routes to meet the needs of colonies. Trade routes can be disrupted if cargo ships traveling them are destroyed, creating shortages and destabilizing local economies. Beyond established routes, goods can also be exchanged through wandering traders—or acquired through pirates. Each colony has a type and a size, which together determine its production, consumption, and strategic value.Colony TypesMining ColonyAgricultural WorldIndustrial HubTrade HubCore WorldMilitary BaseFrontier ColonyPenal ColonySmuggler's OutpostColony SizesOutpostSettlementColonyCity-StatePlanetary MetropolisEach colony type has unique production and consumption patterns that scale with its size. For example an Industrial Hub produces spare parts and components, but consumes raw materials and food. while a Core World produces supplies but consumes large amounts of food and spare parts. Each colony type has distinct production and consumption patterns that scale with its size, displayed on the colony trading screen.Galactic trade routes. Trade routes can be disrupted if cargo ships traveling them are destroyed, creating shortages and destabilizing local economies.Crew TraitsEvery crew member has one or more traits, determined by their rank and role. For example a Commander might boost sensor range and reduce energy consumption of components. while a Security Officer might reduce shield restoration time. Traits from the fleet leader (player) and individual ship captains provide global bonuses to the rest of the crew. Crew members can level up from 1 to 10, with each level improving their traits by +1%. In addition crew members can be part of the away team during exploration with various benefits and penalties.Ev...Read full article on Community Announcements (tensorialproductions)
