About this game

Adoros is dying.

A catastrophic Void Anomaly threatens to tear open Adoros' surface, warping reality and unleashing forces no one fully understands. You are a Cube Crusader, sent to deal with this threat for the continued success of the Crusades.

CAMPAIGN

Take on Adoros' various metroidvania style underground as you seek to crush the Void Anomaly and the horrors it produces alone, or with a local couch co-op buddy. Fight Bosses, mobs, and face the challenges of the Adoros Underground. You can further challenge yourself with Curse Modifiers to make the game more challenging, and heavily alter the experience for added replayability.

CUSTOMIZE YOUR CRUSADER

Enjoy a full customization system with unlockable rewards and show off your sense of style across all gamemodes. Customize all elements of your Crusader, including particle effects. Unlocks are earned through gameplay exclusively, and there are no microtransactions!

PVE HORDE MODE - LOCAL OR ONLINE:

Something underground has inflicted great suffering on the Cube Crusaders on the surface of Adoros, and turned them into Cube-Eating zombies! Fight for survival as the horde becomes more numerous and powerful with each new wave, with up to 16 players online (2 locally) against this endless onslaught... After earning enough Credits through gameplay in Horde Mode and Campaign, unlock Nightmare Mode, enabling the Horde to truly become a swarm-pile of ruthless enemies.

**While we've tested up to 16 players, host settings allow for lobby sizes of up to 200 players, though this setting is untested I found no reason to cap the player count at just 16.

Cube Crusaders will be continually updated and improved for a 6 month duration after launch integrating community suggestions and bug fixes. Come join our Discord to voice your feedback!

GameCon Canada Bug Fixes, Swarm Enemies, and Optimizations

The Horde Mode update this week (latest on our Discord) was added and greatly expanded the Horde's Ability to murder you. This update introduces some optimizations to the way their mesh instancing and frustrum culling works. We should see less CPU spikes when they are killed en masse. Moving on to the title screen, which previously ate 60% of my GPU's performance because of grass, has been heavily optimized as well, with more coming. Here's a breakdown of what all changed: - Added a co-op buddy respawn countdown - Added a co-op buddy healing ability to heal player 1 (right bumper, V on keyboard) - Added a co-op buddy ammo counter above their heads along with their HP bar. - Removed co-op buddy's dash ability, as they would launch themselves off screen and be teleported to player 1 anyway. The dash button now teleports player 2 to player 1 directly. - Optimized the grass on the title screen to reduce incineration of the GPU - Optimized the new Horde Mode Swarm Enemy/Void Mimic spawn and death behavior to smooth out sudden CPU spikes. That's all! Thanks, and have fun.

Status Report + Major Update for Pre-Release Owners of Cube Crusaders

Take a look at the new game icon! Wowie! Anyway. Full steam ahead on the Campaign, save+load systems, vehicle controls, destruction systems and more! I've been hard at work fleshing out the campaign and ironing out bugs. I estimate the total playtime for the campaign should be about 2 hours, but less if you know the most efficient routes to all of the objectives. Plus the Horde Mode, I'm hoping players can aim to get at least a handful of super enjoyable hours from this game. Curse modifiers are currently being reworked to add more exciting gameplay scenarios beyond "make game harder". If you have a pre-release key to Cube Crusaders, you can launch the game, and play though most of the campaign. There are still some save + load bugs relating to collision issues and level streaming but those are fairly minor and easy to fix. UI has some bugs as well so be aware of that, it will not be perfect! I am currently aiming for an August release date this year, in addition to participation in Steam Next Fest for the summer. Anyway, lets get to what's actually changed: - After the demo level, you can now continue the campaign - Added 8 new areas of the campaign beyond the demo level - Added prototype for mech controls and operation - Fixed intro cutscene customization bugs - Added the rough-out of the Captain intro cutscene - Fixed bug where stat upgrades wouldn't initialize properly after save load - Added an objective indicator to the HUD, which updates as you progress through the campaign - Added some NPCs through the world to help guide you and fill narrative - Fixed numerous NPC targeting issues - Optimized AI Spawning behavior to prevent hitching - Ripped out lighting from individual levels, and we are now using a World Lighting Master Manager to determine the lighting scenario for the currently loaded level. This help load times and reduces hitching when moving from one level to the next. - Added a WORKING settings menu that no longer LIES to you about changing settings...

    Demo Content Update

I'm going to keep it fairly brief today. I've been absolutely slugging away at this next iteration of the demo, and I've finally got a fair bit to show for it: - Added Friendly AI to help you in combat - Added a new weapon, the Arc Rifle - high damage, short range, electric bolt - Added a proper ending to the demo which transitions into the second level, after an epic fall-through-space sequence I highly suggest playing through on Mouse and Keyboard. I really hope you enjoy this one! More goodness coming soon enough!

    June 30th Patch Notes

    - Rebalanced Horde Mode after GameCon Canada 2024 feedback. Earlier rounds are now much easier, higher rounds are now much harder. - Added the Minigun to Horde Mode, can be found in chests - Added Checkpoints to Solo Campaign - Fixed an issue causing the HP Bar to not properly update when getting a medkit - Added a reloading indicator above player head when reloading - There are some more minor UI bugs I am working out, this is still in progress. That's it, that's all! Thanks! -Oberst

    DevLog #2 - Face-Melting Difficulty Modifiers

Hello Crusaders! Welcome back to another Dev Log, the 2nd one, wowie! The game's development is coming along nicely! I am chugging along valiantly to push a demo out before May 11th. As I mentioned previously, I don't discuss this game much outside of Discord, so I wanted to update all you handsome Steam-page browsers here too! Let's chat about our lovely Curse Modifiers! As I mentioned previously, a big inspiration for this game is my beloved Halo. Halo has a unique challenge called LASO (legendary, all skulls on) in which the player is essentially a wet noodle controlling a cinematic camera. Even the weakest of enemies are critical threats to the player. The challenge requires such a good understanding of the game, that I wanted to replicate this in Cube Crusaders for the most devoted players to challenge themselves with. That's where we get into... curses! Curses are modifiers that are applied to the game when you start a level. Some make you weaker, affect movement, change things in the environment, or cause enemies to explode into confetti! Let's dive into the one's we'll be seeing.... {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43685921/e64105e760632847e6bd35e0fa9cd74b2691d1cc.png - Faulty Capacitors - "Hope you don't miss!" All weapons have their magazine capacity reduced by half (rounds up) - Junk Batteries - "If your gun rattles, it means it's working hard!" All of your weapons deal -50% damage. - Paper Armor - "Dodge, Dip, Duck and Dodge!" You die instantly upon taking damage. - Death Party - "Let's party!" Upon killing an enemy, they will explode into confetti. - Picked Clean - "Scavengers were already here..." All chests are removed from the world. - Death Suit - "Orderling rulers are ruthless." Your suit will explode in 30 seconds unless you kill an enemy, resetting the timer. - Soulless - "Cursed to see only suffering..." You may only exterminate surrendering foes. - Darkness Consumes - "All light has left the world." Only your flashlight will provide light. AND MORE! If you W...
