About this game
Gameplay
The Crimping is a first-person action-adventure game featuring campy humor, puzzle-solving, and a variety of combat and platforming challenges. You'll meet an assortment of humorous and frightful characters set in a large, continuous world above and deep below the streets of Portland, Oregon. While a true-life ghost story is at the heart of the game, you'll also find plenty of action and many Easter eggs to find, including a fully-functioning 1980s personal computer with Rogue and other classic games.
An indie charmer with carefully designed environments, hilarious AI voices, and a wide assortment of gameplay, The Crimping is a truly unique adventure!
The Story
- "Hidden beneath Portland, Oregon's historical downtown buildings is a vast underground network of tunnels and cells that were used to capture and enslave tens of thousands of unsuspecting men and women. Many poor souls died in those so-called 'Shanghai Tunnels,' which are said to be one of the most haunted places in the world."
In The Crimping, you experience a real-life haunted hotel that was once used to "crimp" or capture people. As you uncover the mysteries of the hotel's otherworldly inhabitants, you may find yourself drawn into the dangerous horrors of the Shanghai Tunnels. Only your wits and reflexes can save you the world below.
Will you survive The Crimping or will your fate be to join the thousands haunting Portland's darkest dungeons? Solve the mystery of Rose's restless soul in this light-hearted action adventure game based on real-life ghosts and haunted locations!

Major Expansion v2.0.0 Now Available!
I’m happy to announce the immediate availability of new and expanded content in The Crimping! An entire new world has been added with five unique challenges that will test your skills. I’ve also added several fixes and improvements throughout the whole game. Notable among these are two new in-game menu options: turning off the humorously corny AI voices and turning on “easy mode” (improving jumping, preventing walking off ledges, and making you invincible to most kinds of damage). The game has not only become much larger, but it has also become a fair bit stranger -- and less like a traditional horror game. As a game player, I don’t really play horror games and my experience is largely limited to “horror-adjacent” parts of games like Half-Life 2. A YouTube streamer asked me to make a horror game for him and, on a lark, I decided to give it a try. However, horror really isn’t my jam, although I do (like Cindy) love a good ghost story. As a result, The Crimping is more of an adventure game than a horror game, and I’ve fully gone with my innate not-scary inclinations for the new expansion. You’ll find very action-oriented challenges ranging from platforming to shooting to exploration, all with the kind of light-hearted style of the rest of the game. For me, games are about having fun, artistic expression, and sharing an experience with others. I hope you’ll have as much fun playing The Crimping as I had making it, and that this expansion brings you happiness!Read full article on Community Announcements (Mama Makes Games)Patch NotesOfficial

I'm happy to announce that The Crimping is now available to everyone! Thank you so much to all who beta tested and provided feedback. As a solo developer, it was such a delight to interact with all of you! :) It's been such a fun ride since I was challenged in February to make a horror game! Not only was it a delight to work on the game itself, I also very much enjoyed learning more about the Shanghai Tunnels and various hauntings in Portland. I hope everyone who plays my game has as much fun as I did making it!Read full article on Community Announcements (Mama Makes Games)Patch NotesOfficial
