Crossing the Finishing Line
It took a long time to get here, but we made it! You can now fight, explore, and survive in the world of GunSpectre! {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/50dde68861c86e47a2c9b6c8e262394e5fa9ef5f.gif GunSpectre started off as a hobby project that bore little resemblance to the game you see in front of you today. Many months were spent tinkering and experimenting until we landed on this being a mostly non-linear action game. Locking down an audio and visual style also took quite some time. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/bb0c8277d3193c00bd7ec814f8f3560a5347aab6.gif Last fall, I was convinced that we were near the end of development. A smaller version of the game world was completed, and we were quietly making plans for release. Around that time, we were approached by Clickteam with an offer to publish and support GunSpectre. Seeing as the game is made with Clickteam Fusion, working with them has been a slam dunk. This gave us the push to make a larger and more polished experience. I hope this was worth the wait. I won't list off the games that inspired this, but if you like 8-bit action and adventure games from the 80s and early 90s, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Some of you may even experience slight feelings of nostalgia as you make your way through GunSpectre. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/bb0c8277d3193c00bd7ec814f8f3560a5347aab6.gif I just want to give a huge shout-out to Oleg Klaus for his help with artwork and a mess of other things, J. Snakeman for keeping me on task, Clickteam for their amazing support, and my significant other for standing by as I spent many sleepless nights making this happen. I'd also like to thank everyone else who supported this project and patiently waited for its release. You know who you are. Thank you so much for playing, and happy hunting! The Scenic Route
Hope everyone has had a good couple of weeks since the last log. We would have shared more, but much of the stuff we've been doing lately has been heavy on spoilers! What I can share today is that we have been adding in brief scenes to GunSpectre. These will pop up at key moments such as the start of the game, visiting a new area for the first time, and few other places. They are short, sweet, and not intrusive. Typically, a scene starts as a hastily made scribble. This gives us a rough idea of how things should look and where they should go. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/3cad4ba314ca726248b5619a99d08839c09c0cb0.png After that, we clean it up and make adjustments until it is visually appealing and consistent with what you see during gameplay, and we get everything moving with Clickteam Fusion. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/10078b351e31915bf45282186267aef0ccbc3d09.gif We hope you're looking forward to encountering these scenes when you're finally able to fight, explore, and survive in the the world of GunSpectre. We'll be sharing more as we get closer to launch! As always, adding GunSpectre to your Steam wishlist is greatly appreciated. Stay tuned!Read full article on Community Announcements (kisguri)AnnouncementsOfficial
The Gentle Art of Making Enemies
Another week down, another week closer to launch. This week, we cooked up some additional enemies for your fighting pleasure. Even though we had a good variety to begin with, it never hurts to have more, and these last few additions make sense for GunSpectre. The overall process for adding enemies to GunSpectre is pretty straightforward. It typically starts with a placeholder in a mostly empty space. From there, we work out movements and attacks. One of the fun things about this process is that we often manually control the enemy to figure out the basics. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/cc76f690520210d7dea55a2792d423647b6ce1a1.gif If everyone is happy with the results, the movements and attacks will be automated, and we'll give the enemy proper visuals. After that, it gets dropped in the game for testing and adjustments. This part of the process can get sticky depending on how complex the enemy is, but we always see it through to the end. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/ef8793bc45953634bde7fda0425d0a23d8bc3f9c.gif The road ahead is much shorter than the road behind. We hope you're looking forward to wiping out the bad guys when GunSpectre is released in the second quarter! Until next time!Read full article on Community Announcements (kisguri)AnnouncementsOfficial
Filling in the blanks!
Hope everyone had a good week! It took a hot minute, but GunSpectre's world has finally been filled. At one point, we had finished a smaller version of this world, but we felt that we could give you more. There are over 500 screens to explore and survive! About half of that is the desolate Surface, which serves as an overworld. The other approximate half is the Subsurface, and that contains a series of labyrinths partially left untouched by time. The rest of the space is dedicated to other interiors and some extras. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43533791/e35343d278baa4967f173e8a0ba12aeaa82dc98b.png It still has to undergo a series of reviews and adjustments, but it's in a pretty good place. Wandering through the desert and exploring the subsurface evoked some nostalgic feelings for me, and I hope it does the same for you. Even if games like these were before your time, I think you'll enjoy everything GunSpectre has to offer. Q2 is right around the corner. Stay tuned as we inch closer to launch!Read full article on Community Announcements (kisguri)
