About this game
Hunt through the wastelands for colossal Beasts in this roguelike deckbuilder. Beware! Beasts grow stronger during battle, allowing them to consume your creatures or counter your spells. Carve profane Gifts from these behemoths and grow stronger to serve your Patron! But serve them to what end?
Hunt the Beasts
Test your wits and your deck against titanic creatures called Beasts, who evolve as you fight them! Rush them down before they reach their potential, or bring large threats of your own to match their strength. Feel the tension of fighting a giant and the excitement of triumphing against the odds with each encounter!Their Rage Builds
As you fight a Beast, their rage will grow and they will unlock new abilities! Beat the whimsical Gilded Grifter at his cup game to gain an advantage. Or, feed The Yearning Woods' Consume ability, which fills its health bar and its stomach... until eventually it bursts!Cut Off their Limbs!
Fight back against the Beasts by infesting them with various swarms of insects, setting parts of them on fire, even cutting off limbs and depriving them of their abilities. Interaction with the Beasts lies at the heart of Acolyte of the Altar.Gifts From Above... Or Below?
After slaying a Beast for the first time, you can offer their body to your Patron, who will carve a new Gift. At the start of a new area, your Patron will bless you with a choice of these gifts that can dramatically alter how you hunt. Take the Crumbling Monument's Skyscraper Sword and make your tallest creatures even bigger. Or capture the elusive Mini Jelly who will zap enemies when you cast spells! However, these profane gifts weigh down your spirit by varying amounts, so be careful with your choices!Fabled Card Update
Rumors circulate among Acolytes of fables almost too improbable to believe - those that involve ancient, near-forgotten variants of creatures and spells... Fabled Cards are shiny, alternate versions of cards that have unique effects. They can be obtained after completing a run with the base card, which will then unlock their Fabled variant! With double the cards, updated beast fights, and dozens of QoL and accessibility improvements, there couldn't be a better time to begin your journey.Best of luck, Acolyte, and may your Patron bless you!

AotA is $9.99 FOREVER!
Hello acolytes! It’s been a while since we last updated everyone, but we come bearing good news! From now on, Acolyte of the Altar’s base price will be reduced to $9.99 PERMANENTLY.We're serious. To give context for this choice, we want to acknowledge everyone’s feedback playing AotA.Whether it was through the Steam community, on other socials, or through our Discord, it has been invaluable to receive all of your thoughts on our debut game. Initially at launch, we carefully decided on a $19.99 price point based on the time and resources spent creating the game. However, one of the most consistent criticisms of AotA over the past year has been that, for the amount of content, the price point feels steep. We took the pricing feedback seriously, and spent a lot of time discussing it amongst the team. We will definitely consider your opinions on AotA when pricing our future projects, but for now, we decided that our first priority in pricing moving forward is making our game as accessible as possible. So, in pursuit of that goal, it felt right to reduce the price of the game for all acolytes moving forward. We hope this makes it possible for even more acolytes join us on the journey! That’s it, folks! We will continue putting sales out every now and again, but now you will NEVER need to spend more than $10 USD to support our first project! Thank you all, old and new acolytes alike, for supporting us and helping us grow. Now, back to work on ~secret things. If you want to keep up with us while we work on what's next, don't forget to follow our socials!Happy hunting!- Cameron, Kennedy, and the rest of the BKG team.Read full article on Community Announcements (kennalea)AnnouncementsOfficial
The Hunt Concludes
Dear acolytes, Since March 25, 2024, we have had the pleasure of designing, developing, and sharing content for Acolyte of the Altar with all of you. Thank you for your continued support and consistent feedback as we all fought our way through the Marrow Wastes, Fading Forest, and Red Shores. What started as one person's daydream became a seven-person team creating our debut game. We have learned so much from this experience. Both in creating a game for one of our favorite genres, and in growing a community that wanted to be a part of the process, this has been a journey that we will forever be grateful for. Because of your support, we spent the past year making Acolyte of the Altar bigger and better than we could've ever done on our own. Finishing our first game is bittersweet. We'd love to spend more time in the wastes together, but we're proud of our creation and how much it has developed. The time we’ve regained will be put to great use on our next game, a new and exciting adventure we’ll say more about when the time is right. Follow along, as you do not want to miss it! Thanks to all of you players, here’s a summary of everything we’ve added to Acolyte of the Altar after launch. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43754306/ca3887a884aae90b9ef73ef5d243243d2c92df2c.png The most substantial improvement has been the addition of 74 all-new Fabled variants of cards that you can unlock by having the base version of a card in your deck when you complete a run, doubling the former card count at launch. These were an absolute blast to design and to play around with when developing, and it was super rewarding to see the community’s reactions live while releasing them in a three-wave structure! We live-streamed developer commentary of us playing with the new cards after they were all released, talking about different details of their inspiration. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43754306/f33ed2c938a67ffcd236b1216e6946032b979eb4.png The most recent addition of new Events has increased the variety in the ...Read full article on Community Announcements (kennalea)Patch NotesOfficial

November 2024 Update
Greetings Acolytes! The latest update introduces new content in the form of additional Gifts that can be found after completing certain objectives (as listed in the full patch notes below). Additionally, we’ve addressed issues that some folks have been having that involve failing to unlock Achievements. In addition to adding two completely new Achievements, now the unlocking of Achievements should be more reliable in general, and most of them can be unlocked retroactively when you open the game. Full Patch Notes Added five all-new Gifts! One for each of the final Bosses, one that can be found after unlocking all of the Cards in the library, and one that can be found after unlocking all of the Bestiary entries. Added two new Steam Achievements and improved the reliability of unlocking all of the achievements in general. Changed Fungal Explosive to Explosive Chain, which reads “Deal 4 damage. Next turn, deal 8 damage. The turn after, deal 12 damage, then the following turn deal 16 damage.” Changed Awakening Bear to a (4) mana 2/2 with Fearless and “If you’ve attacked this turn, I cost 1 less.” Changed Tacklewire’s text to “Start of Turn: I move as close as I can to the center of your board, then I give adjacent allies +1/+1.” Changed Goat with the Man’s Body’s text to clarify that the discover effects you choose do count as spells you play (for Giant Lantern, for example). Fixed a bug that allowed you to play Infected Nomad on a full board when its Dominate cost had been reduced to 0. Fixed a bug that caused the Arcana ability of a monster to change inadvertently after returning to the main menu.Read full article on Community Announcements (Onygox)
