Navigate through Seroutte, a short and atmospheric indie adventure from Studio Hex, exploring themes of fear and the unknown.

About this game

Seroutte is a short atmospheric experimental horror dreamscape based on the developer's nightmares. It explores themes such as the loss of control, fear of the dark, and the paranoia found within the unknown.

After waking up in the middle of the night, your only desire is for a drink of water, and to go back to sleep.

The game heavily emphasises exploration, with the ability to interact with various objects in the world.

Originally released in 2019 on Itch, the Steam Edition of Seroutte is updated with a number of small fixes.

This game is *very* short. You aren't going to get hours of gameplay from this. It was created by a solo developer in a short amount of time, with the aim to learn as much as possible from developing and releasing the game.

Key Features

  • Explore a familiar yet distant environment.
Even our own homes can feel foreign to us in the dead of night. Exploring the house may give you some clues on what to do.

  • Immerse yourself in the universal sense of unease.
You are alone, in the dark, in the middle of the night. You've finally built up the courage to get out of bed, and get the drink of water you so desperately need, but your entire body is screaming at you to stay where it's safe.

Future Updates

Future plans include updated audio, achievements, translations, and various other features.

Currently the game works on the Steam Deck though with some minor bugs, these will be fixed in coming updates.

If you discover any bugs, or have any suggestions feel free to contact us at any of the included links.

    1.7 Things Move Now

Finally, after months of "I'm just making assets" updates, they're finally ready. What's New In this update I've added various items to the game, from mugs to plates to plugs. You can pick them up, throw them around, do whatever you want with them. Very satisfying. I've also added in a new achievement tied to the physics update, so get hunting. Finally I've fixed a couple of bugs tied to the monster, so hopefully everyone should have a much better time with the game now. The Future I've spoken in some places about how this is probably the last update for the game. I'll fix bugs if people bring them to my attention wherever I can, but at this point I don't have any huge plans for what's coming. As much as I'd like to add the new language support that I've mentioned previously, so far I haven't actually made any money from the game so I can't afford to actually pay people to help me with those. It's not a *never* but it is kinda unlikely I'll do much more now. I have an idea for something I'd like to do, perhaps for the one year anniversary, but it'd be tonally dissonant with the rest of the game so I'm unsure. We'll see I guess, but for those of you already here thanks for buying my game this last year, and I hope you enjoyed it.

    Get Updated

Forms are boring Nothing really to show you this month, it was mostly just background work, filling in forms, planning events, things like that. Preparing for next month's bigger update. Not the most interesting of things, but important to do. I'd feel bad if I didn't include something here, so while it's not related to the game at all I did make a dice tray. That's pretty nice, so take a look. {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43547655/57d50186a0f738b65e1cac7025a54d2955087054.png Next month will be better, I promise. See you then.

    Get Forked

Kitchenware {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43547655/0c4602926bfccb379149ea093d7751c9ad9153d5.png I made kitchenware this time. I'll be honest, the knife and spoon I think are decent, and I'm pretty happy with the bowl and plate, but the fork is pretty bad. I just couldn't quite get it looking how I wanted, but I think as it is now it's good enough, especially seeing as you won't exactly be rubbing your face on it in game. I know these aren't the most interesting updates, but I do have some more concrete plans this time. I'm going to keep making more stuff next month, so there won't be a proper patch then either. I've been trying to work out a good time to release the new patch, because it won't just be all these models. I'm also planning on some mechanical changes to the game, but those will take some time to. If only there were some horror-themed holiday coming up soon. See you next month.

    Get Plugged

plug {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43547655/d26441bc06f99f62da48eb4bc1ca5afdb7a85c9f.png Last month I mentioned that I didn't think about plug sockets. Well now I did think about plug sockets. A lot. At first I was just going to copy a normal English plug, but then I thought that I could do whatever I want. And if I can do whatever I want, why not make it my logo? So that's what I did. I could have just left it at that, but if I'm going to do something I may as well plan it properly. The outer part of the logo, the main hexagon, extends past the inner section, and functions as the ground for the cable. The inner section is shorter, and carries the actual power. This is inspired by the way English plugs are designed, with a longer ground pin paired with two smaller power-carrying pins. I also spent an unreasonable amount of time working on the screws. At first they weren't there at all, but then I spent some time trying different screw heads until I finally settled on hex-head screws. They seemed the most appropriate, and they're what I like best irl too. Finally, I also made a lightswitch. Well that's kinda a lie, I actually made that first, but it's the least interesting of the things I made so I left it till last. It won't do anything in the game anyway. See you next month.

    Get Mugged

I'm going to be away soon, so much of my time has been spent getting ready for that. While that's not left me much time to work on the game, I did get some stuff done. mug {STEAM_CLAN_IMAGE}/43547655/5c18628d134cf801e483f00ec4ecfd2b6eda32c6.png Hardly the most exciting thing, but I made some mugs. It's been a long time since I've done any modelling, so getting back into it took longer than I expected. I had more stuff planned, lightswitches for one, but this is all I managed to get done in the time I had available. I talked last month about how I've got plans for the game, and this is the start of those. I'm going to be making and adding a tonne of new models and assets into the game, as well as updating some of the ones that already exist. Rather than do a tiny update with every new model, I figure I'll keep everything together and drop it all at once. Now then, you may be wondering why these things weren't in the game in the first place. Was I just being lazy? Actually no. Well a little maybe. But mostly no. Where's my mug? Not including mugs and lightswitches in the original game was actually a conscious decision on my part. Basically, I didn't want the player to be trying to interact with things that didn't have any real use. You may ask why I made all the doors, cupboards, drawers, oven, fridge, microwave etc openable, and that's because I felt like it. For real though, I didn't want to add controllable lights in the game because I wanted it to be dark the entire time. I could have added in the lightswitches, and a throwaway line about the power being out or something (which is kinda my plan going forward), but I thought it'd just be safer to not have them in at all, that way you don't even have to think about it. Similarly with the mugs, I didn't want people trying to find a way of filling a mug with water when there's a perfectly good bottle in the fridge. I get why it might seem like I just forgot, but these things actually have a lot of thought put into the...
